Job Summary: The ideal candidate will have experience working with adolescents, educators,
families, and communities from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. The
CSD will approach youth development work from a strengths-based, solution-focused
perspective. He or she will have experience working in school-based settings possessing the
ability to work collaboratively with strong relationship building skills. He or She will possess the
ability to think outside of the box and be a self-motivated initiative-taker willing to go above and
beyond expectations. The CSD will be the primary person responsible for the implementation,
integration, alignment, and coordination of the community school strategy at the site level. He or
she would be the liaison with the school, other CBOs, and City agencies on behalf of the initiative
at the school level; direct the development of the annual community school plan consistent with
the expectations of the Principal and School Leadership Team (SLT).
Job Responsibilities:
 Implement a menu of needs-driven, high-quality programs and services in adherence with
the community school model, including but not limited to expanded learning
opportunities, health services, parent/family engagement adult education, direct material
assistance, and interventions targeted to chronically absent students.
 Ensure alignment and integration of all programming with the Principal’s vision and
school-day curriculum to the fullest extent possible.
 Serve as an advisor to the Principal, providing leadership for coordinating the work of
different partners within the school, aligning the work of partners with the school faculty.
 Hire, train, and supervise staff as required by the CHCF.
 Provide training and technical assistance to ensure cultural and linguistic appropriateness
of services, programs, and communication efforts.
 Organize and oversee assets and needs assessments on an ongoing basis and seek input
from teachers, schools, school staff, parents, and students to determine ongoing needs of
students and families.
 Serve as a point person for agencies and programs interested in partnering with the
school, facilitate alliances, and help to broker new partnerships with City agencies and
not-for profits partners that are aligned with school goals and needs, establishing a
continuum of services for students.
 Develop strong relationships with teachers, parents, and students.
 Work with the Parent Coordinator to ensure that families have meaningful opportunities
to participate in the school.
 Identify high needs students, coordinate with teachers to target interventions, and track
and monitor impact of interventions.
 Build relationships and mechanisms to effectively link the school day to expanded
learning opportunities.
 Support research/evaluation of the community school by supervising and coordinating the
collection of data, timely submission of reports and responses to other requests for
information by the DOE or DYCD.
 Work with school leadership to maintain a focus on results and track progress
 Participate in capacity-building activities, including initiative-wide and site-based
trainings, network meetings, and with the Principal ensure the participation of other sitebased staff as needed or required.
 Represent the CHCF and the community school strategy in various public forums as
needed and participate in advocacy activities to promote the community school strategy.




Assist school and partner agencies with resource management and development,
including fund development and grant maintenance.
Coordinate the allocation of space for student and family support services, and for special
events.
Attend meetings in the CHCF main office
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Development
Eligibility Requirements:
 B.A. Degree required, Master’s Degree Preferred
 Four or more years working with children or youth preferred
 Experience working in NYC public schools highly preferred
 Excellent interpersonal skills required
 Bilingual – Spanish/English required
 Must have ability to manage time, be highly organized, and prioritize tasks
 Committed to the mission of the organization and passionate about community- school
partnerships
Minimum Educational Qualifications: BA degree in sociology, social work, education
required, Master’s Degree preferred. Salary commensurate with experience
Experience: Four or more years working with children/families or youth preferred.
Experience working in NYC public schools required.
Competencies: Excellent interpersonal skills required. Excellent relationship building skills
required.
Physical Demands: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines
which includes a computer, printer, typewriter, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator,
telephone, etc. Must be able to work, move or carry objects or materials. Physical demand
requirements are at levels of those for sedentary work.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to
weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually
moderate.
