A Message from the
President...
By Donna McNabb
I was very pleased to see such a
good turnout for the March 21 Gimmick Rally. We had 16 cars pretty
evenly divided over the 3 clubs. While
waiting to begin at the Safeway parking lot, a young man
taking his daughter for ice cream drove by in a Midget (red
of course) and asked what was going on. It was an amazing
scramble to get club cards and information to him! He took
instructions for the drive and followed them for awhile. We
may see him again at a club meeting sometime. It is great
to know that there are young people out there with MGs
who don’t know about our clubs.
See more about the Gimmick Rally on page X.
April is a month to get some club business done. We
will have a quarterly Board Meeting on the 6th in the back
room at the Elmers’s on NE Sandy at 100th, at 7:00 pm.
Everyone is welcome. At the Club Meeting, we will vote
on the club logo (see page 8 for the choices). The vote will
be by voice at the meeting—no ballots—and you must be
present to vote.
Welcome New Members
Please welcome our new and returning members:
You are going to hear a lot of my voice at the Club
meeting because I am the “guest speaker”. As you might
know, we did pretty well in the Moss Motors Challenge last
year. I will be showing the pictures we took with the cars ,
tell you how we went about taking them, and encourage
you to join in this year. It will be fun to have a few folks
join us in the 2015 Challenge.
Activities are ramping up this month and next getting
ready for summer. I hope you get involved with the AutoJumble, by having a sale booth, buying those parts you
need to make your car perfect, or manning our club booth
getting folks to join in the fun. I hope you get involved with
the Vancouver BC ABFM at the beautiful blooming Van
Dusen Gardens. The show is outstanding and the gardens
match it. It is the anniversary of the MGA—if you have one
it is the year to attend. If you don’t have one, you should
still go because the MGs will be overflowing. If you have
to stay home, we have a number of drives, shows, and even
a parade for you.
I applaud Sue and Tom Stose for providing such a full
variety of things to do with our Club. Every month we have
a meeting with interesting speakers or after-meeting drives,
a pub night, a clinic, and at least one driving event. We also
have several parties a year! Take a few minutes to thank
them for their hard work in recruiting so many things to do.
Take care,
Donna

Nineteenth Annual AutoJumble
All British Swap Meet – Spring 2015
NINETEENTH ANNUAL AUTOJUMBLE! A “let’s get ready for SUMMER” swap meet for British cars, parts, and related items. This meet is scheduled for the last Sunday in April to allow time to get your prize vehicles ready to
DRIVE. Because of the success of our previous Autojumbles and the lack of
British auto items at the much larger Portland Swap Meet, we are committed to
making this an annual affair. (Remember, always the last Sunday in April).
We are continuing with the same successful format; inexpensive for exhibitors, free to buyers, and not over-organized. The focus is on British car stuff only
– no muscle cars, model “A” Fords, speed equipment, or antique or collectable
glassware. Only British cars and car related items will be displayed.
The sites for parts vendors will be covered in case of rain. There will be adequate space for cars to be displayed for sale, possibly covered.

Man Our Booth
Our Club has a booth at AutoJumble to encourage new memberships,
sell regalia, and generally promote
MGs. We need your help to “man the
booth”.
We set up about 8:00 am. Peggy
usually brings donuts and there is coffee for sale by Club T MG, the organizer. Dress warm because, despite it
being dry in the parking garage, it is
COLD. Come and stay a couple of
hours talking to folks. Bring a chair.
Take a stroll around the “for sale
booths”, talking to more folks you
know. Buy a banger or hot dog. There
are real (warm) flush toilets in the
building. Like Brigadoon, everything
is gone until next year by 2:00 pm.
Let Peggy Oliver, Sue Stose or
Donna McNabb know when to expect
you. Thanks for helping.
GT-40 Regalia
Available
If you can’t make the trip to GT40 at Frankenmuth MI June 15, you
can still get the regalia that is being
offered to the attendees. It will be
shipped to you as GT-40 is going on.

Awesome Early St Patrick’s Day Drive!
By Peggy Oliver
Adventuresome group of 16 in various vehicles arrived at Home Depot parking lot and enjoyed Krispy Creme donuts
and fresh home made shamrock cookies made by Marianne. YUM! Assortment of fun rides: MGB GT's-white 67/green 67/
green 70/ orange 71; MGB's Red 64, Green 73, Red/Orange 79 Midget, 70 Flame Red; MGA's- 60 Grey/2-60 Red's/60
Adobe Rose, 48 TC Red; Miata's 99 Black/ 90 White-and a regular driver.
Out of the parking lot at 9:05am heading North over the back roads of Vancouver/La Center/Longview/Kalama/ Kelso/
Castle Rock/ Chehalis/Centralia. Crossing over the I-5 freeway a few times with roads twisting and curving with ups and
downs- one gorgeous view point was Green Mountain Road. One of the passing icon was a Statue of Liberty in the tiny
town of Carrolls -if you blinked you missed it. From our cars we could see Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainer along with two beautiful hang gliders soaring above us. Since we were visiting the country side we were greeted by bovines, horses, chickens,
llamas, Shetland ponies and an ostrich.
We arrived in Centralia about 12:15pm and O'Blarney's Irish Pub was waiting for us. Lots of beer, drinks and food assorted from Corn beef and Cabbage, Hamburgers, Bangers & Mash, Shepard's Pie, Fish & Chips to name a few.
Thank you Ed and Marianne for a great run!

April Activities
Board Meeting—April 6
Board meetings will be held quarterly in 2015. Board
meetings are open to all members. Also remember that you
can bring up any subject to be discussed in full at the membership meetings.
Board meetings are held at the Elmer’s Restaurant,
10001 NE Sandy Blvd., Portland. It is a little tricky to get
to (allow extra time for heavy traffic), but it has a nice quiet
back room for our meeting.
Club Meeting—April 10
We meet in the side-room at Stark Street Pizza (92nd
and SE Stark Street in Portland). There is social (and/or
dinner) time before the meeting which starts at 7:30 pm.
The business part is generally short. If you have any issue
to bring before the Board, you can bring it up at the club
meeting.
In the winter months, we try to have a speaker or slide
show of interest to club members. This month the subject is
the Moss Motoring Challenge. Bob and Donna McNabb
did well last year and will share their pictures and the tours
they did to collect the pictures.
We welcome stories of where you have been with your
car, or what you are working on fixing at the moment. In
the summer months we organize a short drive after the
meeting.
Join us! It is the members that make the meetings
lively.
Social & Drive—April 11
See article on page 1.
Clinic—April 15: Pistons, Rings, and Rods!
Always the Wednesday after the Club Meeting
Last month the crankshaft was sized and fitted into the
block, Now it's time to install the pistons, rods, camshaft
and seals.
The pistons are the parts that take the majority of the
power from gasoline to move your car. Installing pistons
correctly will make the difference between having good
power and how long the engine remains at high efficiency
and having a poorly running engine or a short life. This
month we will also look at what it means to balance the
pistons and rods and get them installed correctly.
There are many variations of pistons, rings and rods.
We will examine these choices and look at what is available. Properly setting ring gap is critical to their performance. We will also look at the rod bearings and again use
plasti-gauge to ensure the bearings and crankshaft are correct.
If time allows we should also be able to set the camshaft. The timing of the camshaft will determine how much
horsepower or torque your engine produces. We'll use a
timing wheel to check and set the cam. We'll finish the session by properly installing the seals.
When: Social at 7:00; session starts at 7:30!
Where: Foreign Parts Positively—19900 NE189th St.
Brush Prairie, WA 98606. North on I-205 over Columbia
River. Exit Padden Parkway EAST and travel about 10
miles (through the village of Hockinson.) Turn right at
184th St. “Alderbrook” sign. Take a Hard Left first chance.
Drive with the Shelbys—April 18
See article on page 1.
AutoJumble—April 26
See articles on page 4.
Pub Night—April 28
We gather at a pub the last Tuesday of every month
(except December) for food, beverage, and fellowship. The
location changes throughout the area so there will be one
near you sometime. This is a great way for members to get
to know each other better. Join us at about 6:00 pm for dinner and drinks, fun and socialization.
April 28th will be at Heritage Pub (owned by members
John & Rita Drake) 10601 SE 82nd, Happy Valley OR.

Here are your numbered choices. They will appear in this issue and the
March issue. We will vote at the April meeting by a voice vote. (The motion to “refer to the whole”, a printed ballot in the newsletter allowing
members outside of the meeting to vote, did not pass.) The April vote will
decide our logo. The logo appears on our printed material like the business
card, letterhead, roster, return address on the newsletter, etc.

Hi There!
I just wanted to let all of you know
that I am back and involved with the Portland Vintage Racing Festival after taking
last year off.
I would like to invite your club to come participate in
the Car Corral at the Portland Vintage Racing Festival!
Formerly called the Portland Historic Races, the event has a
new promoter (SVRA) and more to offer than ever! The
Portland Vintage Racing Festival will be held July 10-12,
2015.
As many of your know, the Portland Vintage Racing
Festival is one of the oldest and longest-running vintage car
races in the United States, with at least 250 race cars expected this year. This year’s specialty races are Historic
TransAm and Historic 2.5 B Sedan group. Spectators have
full access to the paddock area, providing them the opportunity to take in this rolling history of motorsports up close
and personal, as well as getting a chance to talk to the drivers and crew members. In addition to auto racing, Saturday
night will conclude with a concert by Mitch Ryder and the
Detroit Wheels (“Devil with a Blue Dress On”) followed by
fireworks.
The $45 Car Corral package includes:
 Three day admission for two people
 One vehicle pass
 Ability to participate in the Car Corral Autocross
 Saturday/Sunday on-track parade lap
 Saturday evening concert and fireworks with Mitch
Ryder and the Detroit Wheels
Should you or your club members have any questions,
please email or call me at [email protected] or

through Ticket Tomato https://www.tickettomato.com/
event_group.php?gid=104, the deadline to participate in
June 19, 2015. Feel free to pass this email on to your members, as they can order their tickets individually rather than
as a group.
I hope to see all of you at the event this year!

We'll leave Sunday after the MGA luncheon and travel into
northern Washington spending the night at a small hotel.
Monday we'll return to the Portland area on scenic back
