Environmental Study in Jones State Forest Freshmen in the Scientific Research and Design class have begun their six‐week environmental study in the W. Goodrich Jones State Forest. For more than 16 years Academy students have collected data in the forest that has been used by the forest service in their quest to provide sound scientific forest management that protects and perpetuates native flora and fauna. The project began with the selection of senior scientists who subsequently interviewed their peers and selected teams or the following groups: aquatic biology, aquatic chemistry, air and soil science, botany, cartography, terrestrial invertebrates and terrestrial vertebrates. Students will collect and compile their data and present their findings at the Freshman Research Symposium on May 28. The forest which was purchased in 1926 was named after W. Goodrich Jones, the founder of the Texas Forestry Association. The forest is a protected natural resource and is healthy due to sound forest stewardship following a period of heavy logging, wildfires and insect epidemics. 3 P.A.S.T. for the Future News Information from the Parents of Academy of Science and Technology Senior Banquet The Senior Banquet Committee is working to make another memorable experience for members of the Class of 2015 and their parents and families.
