Captain Gerald "Jerry" Maggard (1933-2015) Jerry was born in Briscoe, Arkansas on December 13, 1933 to Felix and Mallie (Napier) Maggard. After high school, in 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the early days of the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged during 1954. Within the next year, Jerry joined the City of Fairfield Police Department. He was promoted through the ranks and retired in 1985 as a Police Captain. Captain Maggard was also employed by the Butler County Auditor's office. He was a member of Fairfield Community Church and enjoyed camping, yardwork, remolding of old houses, and teaching Bible study class. Captain Maggard passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital at 6:55 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Murrel Maggard and Harold Maggard. Captain Maggard is survived by his wife of 41 years, Peggy Maggard; children, Jeff (Andi) Maggard, Mike (Tina) Maggard, Gary R. (Trenna Jossart) Hoskins, and Sonya (Marshall) Hodges; 7 grandchildren, Gage, Chase, Jacob, Zach, Karee, Laura, and Josh; and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Fairfield Community Church, 5650 Winton Road. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Richard Sterwerf officiating.
