This Month marks the end of an era as we discontinue the Fun Night Dance on the
first Friday of each month. This was one of the original fundraisers and dates back
to the old center. I do not know when it started, but I estimate that it has been
going on for 25-30 years. Many thanks go out to all that helped out over the years.
Our annual Spring festival will be Saturday, May 16th. We are accepting donations for the silent auction now. We will serve biscuits and gravy starting at 7 a.m.
The show will run from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m. with the silent auction ending at 1 p.m.
We will run the concession from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. featuring: hotdogs, cheeseburgers, spicy smoked sausages, cheddar sausages, and our famous home-made corndogs. Come and join the fun and help us raise money for the home delivered meal
program!
I want to remind you that we have an opportunity to participate in Give Ozarks
Day on May 5th. It will be held here at the center and we will celebrate Cinco de
Mayo by serving Mexican Food complete with chips and salsa on the tables. The
music will start at 1 p.m. with Mark Houser and the festivities will continue
through the afternoon. The event will continue into the evening with the Missouri
Ramblers dance and pot luck dinner, also featuring Mexican food. We always accept donations here at the center, but on this day, people will be able to donate
from anywhere as long as they have access to a computer. If you do not have access to a computer, we will have stations set up in the dining room so people can
donate. Please let out of town family and friends know about this. They can find
out more by visiting our Give Ozarks web page at:
https://giveozarks.org/2015/mccarty-senior-center or visiting us on Facebook and
liking our page-www.facebook.com/mccartycenter.

Food for Thought— Kathrynne Holden Kathrynne is a nutritionist, specializing in good health for older adults.
Getting the "sunshine vitamin" in winter Although D isn't found naturally in very many foods, there
are some very good food sources that are excellent additions to a well-balanced eating plan. Let's take a
look at some foods in which vitamin D can be found, either naturally, or through fortification.
Food sources // Vitamin D (IUs)
3 oz oysters, catfish, or mackerel // 400-500
3 oz halibut, tuna, salmon, or canned sardines // 170-230
3 oz shrimp or canned tuna // 120-130
3 oz cod // 35-45
1 egg // 26
8 oz fortified milk // 100
It's a good idea to eat two or three servings of fish each week, for its heart-protective fat as well as vitamin D. Fortified milk is a good choice, too -- its bone-strengthening calcium is partnered with vitamin
D, for best absorption. And fortified breakfast cereals can provide fiber as well as vitamin D.

Center Service Board Report
The board voted, approved and signed off on the budget for 2016. It includes the largest fundraising
plan in the history of the center. Costs continue to rise and we all hope that the addition of on-line giving in 2016 will bring in enough money to meet our expectations. Sharon Welch asked for clarification
on the policy pertaining to flyers on the tables. A few years back, the board voted to only allow organizations that partner with us to be able to put flyers on our tables. Mark is in charge of identifying partners. The board was asked what happened to the poster with the pledge of allegiance that used to hang
on the podium. The poster had been there for years and was quite worn. Bert Hill donated a nice wooden plaque which hangs by the serving line. If someone would like to donate a nice poster for the podium,
see Mark.
