Pastor’s Pen
As you may be reading this, our congregation continues an observance
of the season of Lent and an approach to Holy Week and Easter. I know
many of you will be observing the holiday in a variety of ways. Many
of you come to church. Some people make a special dinner to share
with family and friends, while others prefer to spend time alone in quiet
reflection. Easter holds different messages and meanings to different
people. During Easter, Christians recognize the completion of Jesus’
mission on earth; to come and to die for the sins of humanity and to be
resurrected on the third day. I think about Good Friday and what that
day must have been like. Jesus, the Son of God had performed
miracles. He rejected the religious leaders and traditions of the day by
loving unlovable people who followed him and believed in him. So
what must it have been like when he died? When he said, “It is
finished”, and hung his head, what could his followers have possibly
felt? To put all your faith in something that lets you down is a heavy
weight to bear. We may have not been there when the disciples
watched their Lord breathe his last breath and die, but we can only
imagine how they felt… in a word… hopeless………….
might this be the perfect opportunity to come back to worship, back to
the Body of Christ, back to a church family that welcomes you and
loves you. If you are not someone who goes to church regularly or at
all, I pray that you take some time out to sit, reflect, and think about
the areas of your life that have died or you feel are dead or dying and
remember that despite how final your Good Friday feels, Easter Sunday
is on its way. Every day is a second chance; a chance to change, a
chance to forgive, a chance to forget and a chance to grow . In your
darkest hour, keep your eyes peeled for the light. Wait for it,,, for
Easter is coming and with it great rising, bringing life from death, joy
from sorrow, peace from fear and worry, hope from despair. God is
present and actively calling us to trust in his Son, Jesus, The Christ, our
Savior and Lord, our only hope…
Happy Easter!
Pastor Frank +
Not only did he die in the most publically humiliating way at the time,
but he was also entombed. Now that’s final…
For three days there was nothing. He was gone. All seemed lost. But
then on Sunday morning, tears and the numbness of disillusionment
turned to cries of rejoicing… He is risen!!!
This is why people get so excited. It is a celebration of new life, of rebirth. It is a celebration that the most hopeless of circumstances could
be revived. The resurrection of Jesus is the heart of the gospel message
and the meaning of life and that there is hope. No matter how dark it
gets, there is a light that shines through. That is why it is called Good
News. This Good News of the risen Lord can inspire, change and
transform anyone. I pray that during this Lenten season, Holy Week
and Easter season, even if you have been away from the church,

COUNCIL NEWS
Council Meeting DETAILS: March 16, 2015
Constitutional Committee Questions: Jack Gesalman, head of the
Constitution Committee, had several concerns in regards to the personnel
committee’s recommendation that employees not be allowed to serve on
church council. After Consulting with Synod leaders, Pastor Sheehan, and
Edward Sites and consulting the model constitution, and ELCA policy, that
there is nothing constitutionally prohibiting an employee from being a member
of Church council. After Investigation of the issue a motion was made and
carried not to change the constitution in regards to employees serving on
church council.

SWPA W/ELCA Designated Outreach:
Thank you for all your donations to last year’s Designated Outreach recipient
“Bethesda Children’s Home”. With our help the SWPA Women of the ELCA
were able to deliver many, many carloads of supplies and over $4,000 in
monetary donations to them. Your support of the designated outreach program
is very much appreciated.
Moving forward, last May, at the Synodical Women’s convention, we voted on
who would be the 2015 recipient of our generosity. “The Fayette County
Community Action Agency Inc.’s (FCCAA) Bridge House” was elected.
The FCCAA is a private, non-profit community-based organization that has
been proving comprehensive services for over 47 years. It is recognized for its
ability to provide quality services to low-income, disabled and elderly
residents of the area. They are able to do this with community support and
collaborative relationships with the health and human service community. As a
one-stop setting, they are able to provide a holistic approach to develop and
implement successful projects that serve the local community such as the
Bridge House program. The Bridge House is a transitional shelter which offers
communal living areas for 16 people (homeless families and single women) for
up to 12 months. The organizations goal is to help them gain self-esteem, selfsufficiency and independence. Each individual works with a case worker and
they establish an Individual Service Plan. They work together weekly to reach
their personal goals which may include issues such as education, employment,
health, nutrition, addiction, budgeting, clothing, housing and household
resources. We have been asked to help support their cause by supplying them
with some of the items listed below. Please remember that financial
contributions are also accepted. Items may be brought to the designated
donations box at church, any cluster event, or the May convention. You may
contact me, Karen, at 724-837-1439 with any questions. We will be collecting
items for The FCCAA’s Bridge House from March – May 10th, 2015.
Requested Items are:
Clothing: (All sizes, ages & genders) New Underwear, New Socks, New or
Gently Used Gloves, Hats & Scarves. Infant & Children’s Clothing especially
