Pentecost Sunday

by Virgilio T.J. Suerte Felipe
“To Enter into the Mystery”
“To enter into the mystery”, Pope Francis explains, “means the ability to wonder, to contemplate; the ability to listen to the
silence and to hear the tiny whisper amid great silence by which God speaks to us (cf 1 Kings 19:12).
“To enter into the mystery demands that we not be afraid of reality: that we not be locked into ourselves, that we not flee
from what we fail to understand, that we not close our eyes to problems or deny them, that we not dismiss our questions…
“To enter into the mystery means going beyond our own comfort zone, beyond the laziness and indifference which hold us back,
and going out in search of truth, beauty and love. It is seeking a deeper meaning, an answer, and not an easy one, to the questions
which challenge our faith, our fidelity and our very existence.
“To enter into the mystery, we need humility, the lowliness to abase ourselves, to come down from the pedestal of our ‘I’
which is so proud, of our presumption; the humility not to take ourselves so seriously, recognizing who we really are: creatures
with strengths and weaknesses, sinners in need of forgiveness. To enter into the mystery we need the lowliness that is powerlessness, the renunciation of our idols… in a word, we need to adore. Without adoration, we cannot enter into the mystery”

Topic: Moral Issues of Life and Death (4th of 7 weekly lessons)
• When is killing justified?
• What is the Church’s position on capital punishment, artificial life support,
cloning, stem cell research, and genetic manipulation?
• What is “just wars”?
• Can abortion be justified in extreme cases?
This week’s topic covers the fifth commandment: “Thou shall not kill” and
tackles controversial moral issues such as abortion, euthanasia, the TerrySchiavo type of artificial nutrition and hydration, capital punishment, selfdefense and the elements of a “just war.”
Please join us and discover why the Catholic Church is steadfast in upholding
its teachings on morality inspite of all the criticisms and attacks against it.

teacher of the Catholic faith.

In 2013, Pope Francis declared that a Year of
Consecrated Life (YCL) be celebrated throughout the
world. YCL will begin on the First Sunday of Advent,
November 30, 2014. It will close on the World Day of
Consecrated Life, February 2, 2016- Please keep those
who have dedicated their lives to Christ in your prayers
O God, throughout the ages you have called women and
men to pursue lives of perfect charity through the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience.
During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks
for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of
inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make
a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to
enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters
who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the
Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord
Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in
the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.

Pentecost Sunday
Solemnity–Pentecost Sunday
As the Father has sent me, so I send you.
It is clear that many of the disciples were terrified after the death and ascension of Jesus. It
took the power of the Holy Spirit for them to
courageously proclaim the Good News. We
need to be, filled with Spirit, so our word and
example may reveal God to others.

SAFEGUARD THE CHILDREN DID YOU KNOW?
PROTEGIENDO A LOS NIÑOS ~
¿SABÍA USTED?
Adults are responsible for reporting abuse
Los adultos son responsables de reportar
el abuso
When any adult has reason to suspect
that a child is being or has been abused,
he or she has a moral (and often legal)
responsibility to report suspicions to civil
authorities. Reporting suspected abuse
takes courage. Adults who take a stand
for children and make the call are often
responsible for saving a child from terrible torment.
Learn more about how to identify and report suspected
abuse by reading chapter 9.8.1 of the Administrative
Handbook for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Go to:
http://handbook.la-archdiocese.org/chapter-9/section-98/topic-9-8-1.

Retirement Fund of the Archdiocesan Priest
May 30th and May 31st, 2015
June 6th and June 7th, 2015
If you’re looking for a retired priest in this
Archdiocese, you’ll find them visiting parishes, retirement
communities, hospitals, prisons, campuses, schools, and
other places as celebrating Mass in their counties, distributing communion, hearing confessions, anointing the
sick, and carrying out other important ministries.
Because these priests are diocesan priests – in
other words, not a member of any religious order or community – they must rely on the priest pension fund of the
Archdiocese of California for their post-retirement living
expenses and medical needs.
Helping retired priests is a commitment that
donors happily support. After all, these men of God have
given decades of service.
