Third Sunday of Easter
Dear Parishioners:
This weekend the Parish Stewardship Committee is sponsoring a
Ministry Fair in the Pastoral Center to offer you information on
the various ministries sponsored by the parish. In order to address all the dimensions of parish life and to provide services for the people of this community, we
rely on your willingness to volunteer. In liturgy, for example, we need twelve
Eucharistic ministers, two lectors, three altar servers, and five or six ushers for
each mass. The role of the usher is to welcome people to our community and
help them to find a seat; if necessary, to insure that a person receives communion if they cannot come to the front; pass out bulletins and straighten up the
church for the next service. After the Saturday mass and the last mass on
Sunday, the ushers are responsible for locking up.
In recent years, we have started a welcoming committee. It is an important
ministry. Many people come to the community to check us out. If we welcome
them and assist them with their needs, they will stay and support the parish. One
of my favorite ministries is the Funeral Support Teams. Every year we have
people die who have no one to be present at their funeral. If you are late in life
or if you have been out of circulation for many years, people forget about you. I
ask people to join in honoring a person who has died.
The Stewardship Committee is holding its quarterly meeting with newcomers
next Sunday. When people join the parish, they may have questions. The committee tries to answer the questions that people have and connect them with
organizations where they can become involved. Two others functions of the
Stewardship Committee are to organize our annual Multicultural Mass and to
support the stewardship appeal for funds for the parish. I am grateful to them for
all the work that they do.
Several important events are coming up. On Saturday, April 25th at 5:00 PM, we
will have First Communion for the 2nd grade children. It is important that we
welcome the children to the table of the Lord. Eucharist is the most important
activity of parish life where the majority of people gather to celebrate the real
presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The Eucharist brings us together in unity and
nourishes our spiritual life.
On Saturday, May 2nd at 5:00 PM, we will hold our annual Celebration of
Marriage. The parish will honor couples who celebrate significant anniversaries.
We even have one couple who will have their 73rd wedding anniversary! The
mass and party afterwards is one way that we have to honor married couples
who live out their commitment to one another. During the mass married couples
have an opportunity to renew their marriage vows.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

FAITH FORMATION
This Week’s Stewardship Note
Pg. 3
Today is the Third Sunday of Easter! Alleluia! Alleluia!
“The author of life you put to death . . .”
Peter, Acts 3: 15
The Author of Life! What a wonderful title for Jesus! Commentators note that the Greek term could be translated as
“pioneer”, “founder”, “source”. It hearkens to the prologue of John’s gospel: “All things came to be through him and
without him nothing came to be.”
Peter goes on to talk about Jesus granting new life through repentance. Those who have been in serious sin know that
repentance is difficult. As Catholics we have the sacrament of reconciliation to help us obtain forgiveness and new
life. Father is available for reconciliation every Saturday 3:30 to 4:30PM. in the Church.
Holy Rosary Stewardship
Prayer
Dear Lord God,
You alone are the source
of every good gift
and the mystery
of each human life.
We thank you for your creation
And for your tender, faithful love.
Fill our minds with the Gospel
of your son Jesus
and fill our hearts with his
compassion.
Send your Spirit to grant us
wisdom, that our gratitude
may bind us together into a
community of faith
and a caring people.
Give us the courage to express
our gratitude first
as we discern how to
be good stewards of
the gifts entrusted to us
that we may do the work
for your Kingdom.
In your son’s name
we pray, Amen!
Ministry Fair in the Pastoral Center lobby after masses this Sunday!
Learn about our dedicated ministries and then enjoy breakfast with the
Knights! Representatives from Religious Ed., the Youth and Young
Adult Program, Marriage Prep, Perpetual Adoration, Health Ministry,
Serra Club and Stewardship will be there to answer your questions.
Continue your Lenten spiritual growth into the Easter season with
Deacon Ray! See his box below for his offerings in contemplative prayer
and the study of the Psalms.
Newcomers are invited to our Newcomers Roundtable next Sunday,
April 26th! You will get to meet and ask questions of ministers from a
variety of ministries. We will meet in Room 206 on the upper level of the
Pastoral Center at 10:10AM, after 9:00AM mass.
The Annual Catholic Appeal is beginning! Look for Archbishop
Sartain’s letter in your mailbox this week! This appeal supports the
Church in Western Washington by supporting the benefits of all church
employees, the administration of Catholic schools, the recruitment,
retirement and health care of diocesan priests, and much, much more!
Save the Date! The 4th Annual Multicultural Mass and Lunch will be
May 31st! This year we will be celebrating the cultures of Asia. If your
cultural heritage comes from Korea, China, Vietnam, the Philippines,
India or other Asian cultures, and you would like to help organize the
event, please email or call me.
I am looking for help with stewardship efforts, in particular, photographers, writers, and those adept at social media marketing.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION: The Pray Always Group meets again Tuesday, April 21st at 9AM and again at
6:30PM. We’ll pray, have a chance to tell our stories, and learn a little. Since healing was such a big part of Jesus’
ministry, that session will focus on healing prayer and prayer for healing.
The Bible Study for Psalms, The School of Prayer will continue with session #2 on April 23rd. As in the past
there will be two sessions on Thursdays at 9AM and 6:30PM. The Psalms has been the school of prayer for countless saints, religious communities, and individual Christians. Let it help shape your prayer life as well.
We still need couples to volunteer as marriage mentor couples. If you’re in a happy marriage and were to volunteer, your help would be appreciated. The mentoring workbooks and video are excellent and easy to use. Plus, I’ll
see that you have a good orientation to the process so you can feel confident when you work with a couple. If you
feel called in your heart to this ministry to model Christian marriage to an engaged couple, contact me at
425-977-4549 or at [email protected].

FAITH FORMATION
Daily Prayer This Week
This can be a very good week to grow in a sense of
and practice the notion of being a "contemplative in
the midst of action." We have practically a whole
week of gospels about Jesus' gift of himself to us as
the "Bread of Life." This gives us the opportunity to
let that mystery be in the background of our consciousness every day this week, as we go about our
everyday tasks. What makes it "contemplative” is that
we will be asking for graces each morning, and we
will let our desires and our activities interact.
We can begin reflecting upon how often we “work for
food that perishes.” The pay-off, the success, the accomplishment, the reward we receive for what we do
is often quite passing and unsatisfying. It would be
important to be able to sense anything that appears to
be food that doesn't last and name it as such this
week. The real food, the life-giving nourishment that
our Lord offers us is himself.
If we can't celebrate the Eucharist daily this week, we
can make what we used to call a “spiritual communion” simply by opening our hearts and desiring to receive our Lord, so that he remains in us and we remain in him. We can practice consciously choosing
union with Jesus, our Risen Lord and only Savior, and
experiencing how that would affect the choices we
need to make throughout our day. If we begin each
day, asking for the grace of this union, and renew the
desire at brief moments we have at various times in
the day, our focus and attention begins to change. We
will experience a peace and a gifted lack of hunger
and thirst for so many of the things that draw us away
from him, from loving, from mercy, from consciousness on those in need.
If the background focus of each day this week is to
desire to be fed by a closeness with my Lord, it
doesn't matter how busy I am, or how many conflicts
I have to face or what suffering I or my loved ones
must endure. His flesh and blood are real food and
drink because they are the real sacrifice that takes
away the power of sin and death itself. United with
his surrender to the Father, we are set free from whatever can take away the life he gained for us. For this
gift, for this faith, we can give thanks for every night,
as we review our union with our Lord each night.

Hope and Healing After Abortion
“As a man this is something we don’t talk about, even
with our closest friends. For years I privately carried the
guilt, shame and regret over the loss of my child. Attending the retreat allowed me to finally open up and share
with others that have been down the same road. Through
this I was able to open my heart to receiving God’s
forgiveness.”

GOSPEL OF JOHN: POSTPONED—One of the activities that I enjoy most is teaching. I had an opportunity to make several presentations in the RCIA program as well as offer an adult confirmation program.
However, my schedule is such now that I cannot complete the presentation of John’s Gospel and Letters. My
plan is to take up the Gospel of John in the fall. Stay tuned for more details.

BLEACHERS: We need to replace the bleachers in the gym, which are 35 years old. They no longer meet
code. If a person had an accident on them, we would have problems with our insurance. So far we have saved
$40,000 toward a $60,000 bill to replace them. If you would like to make a contribution toward the replacement of them, you may drop it off at the Parish Office. Please mark the envelope “Bleacher replacement”.
OUTREACH
