We were able to meet our goal! Now it is time for us to begin the 2015 appeal this weekend. The theme for this year is Proclaim Christ! By now you have received Bishop Warfel’s letter outlining the goals and needs of this appeal. If you have questions, just ask me. Our parish goal for this year is $110,000. This amount reflects not only how blessed our parish has been by your generosity, but as important, how much good we are able to do to provide for ministry to so many of our parishes in Eastern Montana that struggle to provide the services we have at Holy Spirit for their small communities. With a diocese of 38,000 Catholics spread over 94,500 square miles, our rural churches are spread thin and must rely on diocesan services provided through Care and Share to Proclaim Christ with hope. I know I can count on your commitment again this year. I always say that this appeal is both a responsibility and a privilege that we all share as members of this diocese. As always, thanks!! Fr. It is what we have been preparing for all during Lent. It is the highlight of what our faith life is all about. So don't miss the best part! As we enter the holiest of weeks, know that your presence at these liturgies is important. Each service is unique. The solemn liturgies for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday are among the very best things we do in the church. Don't miss these celebrations! Yes, they are longer than usual. Yes, they are different, but isn't that to be expected? Special events always cause us to change our ordinary routine way of doing things. That should not surprise us. Join your parish community for these special celebrations. You won't be disappointed. The celebrations of this holy week are a climactic conclusion to our lenten experience. As we move from the "hosannas" of Palm Sunday to the remembrance table of Holy Thursday, may our faith strengthen us to go from the Good Friday Cross of Calvary to the living waters of Holy Saturday and to the joy of Easter "Alleluias!" VIGIL: When the word “vigil” is used, it usually refers to the day before a feast. Saturday evening Mass, for example, is a vigil that anticipates the Sunday celebration. It is mostly a matter of convenience, intended for those who would be unable to attend Mass on Sunday due to work obligations. In former times there were only a few vigil Masses. These were extended periods of intense prayer, reading and reflection. Major feast days still have vigil Masses with their own special readings. Pentecost is an example of this. The church celebrates three distinct Christmas Masses, each with its own special readings: at midnight, at dawn, and during the day. When the church celebrates a vigil liturgy, it is almost as it is is saying, “We can’t wait!” Holy Saturday, or the Vigil of Easter, is the most important of all vigils and we still celebrate it much the way it was intended. The Holy Saturday Vigil is definitely not an anticipated Mass but a real vigil. In fact, it should not be begun until darkness has fallen. 2015 Year of Consecrated Life Religious life ought to promote growth in the church by way of attraction. The church must be attractive. Wake up the world! Be witnesses of a different way of doing things, of acting, of living! … It is this witness that I expect of you. Religious should be men and women who are able to wake the world up.
