STEWARDSHIP
“The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we
are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs
of God and joint heirs with Christ…” Romans 8:16-17
If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, shouldn’t we
work to build up His kingdom? Shouldn’t we be
good stewards of our inheritance, using our time,
talent and treasure to care for the Church that God
has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom
from God. Do we treat it that way?

LOVE IS OUR MISSION
ROSARY & ANOINTING OF THE SICK
June 4, 6:30PM
Church
From Chapter 2 The Mission Of Love:
21. With men and women created in
the image of God, history begins. In
history, God calls and forms a
people. He makes a covenant with us,
first through Israel and then through
Christ and the Church.
In this
relationship, God teaches us to love as
he loves. 26. Marriage imagery is
central in describing God’s covenant
with Israel and later, his covenant with the Church. As
Pope Benedict XVI taught, “Marriage based on exclusive
and definitive love becomes the icon of the relationship
between God and his people and vice versa. 28. The
marriage between God and his people can be
rocky. “God’s relationship with Israel is described using
the metaphors of betrothal and marriage”...30. God
perseveres in love for his people, even when we fall, even
when we insist on trying to live without him. 31. In like
manner, Christian love involves much more than
emotion… 35. For many today, “love” is little more than a
warm feeling or physical attraction. These things have
their place. But real love – love that endures and deepens
and satisfies the human heart over a lifetime – grows from
what we give others, not what we take for ourselves…
Authentic Catholic teaching on marriage and the family
separates true love from all counterfeits.
Rosary and Anointing of the Sick is the first Thursday of
the month in the church at 6:30pm. Come pray the Rosary
for parishioners, family and friends who are ill. The
Sacrament of the Sick will be celebrated for those with an
upcoming surgery, chronic or serious illness.
ILLNESS & CAREGIVER
SUPPORT GROUP
June 4, 7:00PM
Conf. Rm.
Are you finding it a struggle, dealing with a major change
in health with a spouse, parent, sibling or a friend? Are
you experiencing a change in your own health? Living
with a personal illness or having to care for and or love
someone who is chronically or terminally ill can be one of
the most difficult challenges you will ever face. You are
not alone. We offer comfort, support and companionship
during difficult times. “Together on a Journey” meets the
first Thursday of every month at 7:00pm in the conference
room. We also offer a Respite Ministry where someone
can come to your home, and give you some much needed
time away (and your loved one with a new pal!) Please
contact Jean at [email protected] if you have
questions.
For discussion with your family, small group, or personal
meditation:
What is true love and how do we recognize it? What are
some similarities and differences between your culture’s
notion of romantic love and God’s covenant love?

love in a more honest and better way?

DID YOU KNOW?
CATHOLIC FACT: ECUMENICAL COUNCILS
An ecumenical council, also known
as a general council or synod, is a
meeting of bishops from all around the
world gathered around the pope to discuss
certain matters of Church teaching or
discipline. To date, there have been 21
ecumenical councils.
The first ecumenical council was the Council of Nicaea
(A.D. 325), which was convened shortly after Christianity was
legalized to deal with the heresy of Arianism that had spread
throughout the Church. One of the great fruits of this council
was the creation of The Creed, which to this day we recite
each Sunday. The last ecumenical council was the Second
Vatican Council, which concluded in 1965.

Sunday, June 7, 1:00-4:00PM
Adult Faith Classrooms, Lower Level
Phones. Laptops. Tablets. We are careful about charging our devices so they are there
when we need them. In the busyness of our lives we sometimes forget to give our
marriages the attention they need to thrive. We forget to prioritize our marriages, and
we fall into relationship amnesia. This afternoon, presented by Brad and Libby
DuPont of the Archdiocesan Office of Marriage and Family Life, they will give you
practical insights and skills that will help you recharge the joy in your most
significant relationship!

LEADERSHIP INTERNS NEEDED
June 8-12
Ascension
Ascension Catholic School is partnering with Camp
Invention this summer to provide a unique out-of-schooltime elementary enrichment experience with a science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM) focus for
children in our community, June 8-12 from 8:00am3:30pm. During this week-long adventure, children
entering grades one through six will design and build their
own inventions, take apart gadgets and be a part of a team,
have the opportunity to be creative and messy and have
FUN! The Camp Invention program consists of exciting,
hands-on, inquiry-based activities. Staff-to-child ratios for
this program are 1:8, and the size of the program runs
between 35 and 110 participants. We are searching for
high school students in grades 10, 11, and 12 to lead the
student groups. Camp Invention allows the Leadership
Interns the unique opportunities to build leadership
and communication skills. This is a great chance to
earn service hours over the summer. Please contact
Becky Wright at [email protected] if you are
interested.

Church of the Ascension
The Most Holy Trinity Sunday
May 31, 2015
WEEKLY PRAYER
Most Holy Trinity Sunday
Three-in-One Love
New Parishioners
When I was much younger, I used to think that God was
totally invisible, not to be experienced as the people in the
bible did. After all, they heard God’s voice in the fiery
cloud; they saw the waters parted so they could pass
through—all the things that Moses talks about in the first
reading. But then I ask myself, do I want my faith to be
based on special effects? Do I want to be like the people
who believe in extra-terrestrials because they saw a light in
the sky that they could not explain? Or do I want to trust
Jesus, who told Thomas, “Blessed are they who have not
seen and have believed.” (Jn 20:29)
Jesus was referring to his resurrection appearances, but it
also applies to the Holy Trinity. When we see a newborn
child, she can remind us of God the Father creating the
earth and all living things. When we see the cross, we
recall Jesus saving death and resurrection. When we share
our faith with someone, we know that it is the Holy Spirit
who gives us the words to speak and the courage to speak
them. Without seeing the pillar of fire that lead the Hebrew
from Egyptian slavery, nor the wounds in Jesus’ hands
after his resurrection, nor the tongues of flame over the
apostles at Pentecost—we can still experience God in
Three Persons.
The three are not just equal parts of God, one-third of God
each. No, they each are totally God. That is why we say
God is love: Three infinite Persons are united in one
substance or being, so the love they have for each other is
infinite. The actions that show each Person’s qualities are
not done by that person alone. Everything God does is
done by all three Persons. So you could say that everything
the Trinity does, is done out of love.

IT WOULD GREATLY HELP IF:
Clothing items are just “gently” used, not ready for the rag drawer.
Items with cords, pieces, etc., are in baggies and attached to the main item.
You make certain all electrical items are in working order.
Sheets, blankets, bedspreads, curtains, etc., are marked with appropriate size.
Sheet sets are bagged together and marked.
Items are separated by category, i.e., housewares, linens, clothes, etc. brought
on hangers if appropriate.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ABOUND. Please check the sign-up link located at:
kcascension.org then look for Quick Links. For questions, contact Maggie at
[email protected], or call the parish office 913-681-3348.
You must be signed up online (or call and we’ll sign you up!) to work! Thanks!

SCHOOL
May Crowning
On May 1, the 6th grade and Kindergarten students
prepared and led the May Crowning, a beautiful devotion
to Mary that is repeated every year. The prayer service had
songs, prayers and flowers that honored Mary as the Queen
of Heaven and Earth. May is the month that is dedicated to
Mary. This traditional prayer service is meant to help
nurture the faith. The statue of Mary was adorned with
flowers at her feet and the final culmination was the
placing of the crown on Mary’s head. It was a beautiful
reminder to be thankful to Mary for all she has done for us.
Fr. Bruce Ansems, The Mikey Needleman Band, and
speaker Fr. Andrew Strobl, Director of the Office of
Evangelization, will share Christ’s joy with us throughout
the evening. We’ll also have dinner, games, giveaways,
and most importantly, Eucharistic Adoration under the
stars! Although the message is targeted for Junior High
and High-school aged students, the event is appropriate and
will be faith-filled for all!
Pre-register by emailing [email protected] before
the day of the event, and save $5.00. The cost is $5.00
prior to June 5, $10.00 on June 5. Find more information:
please visit www.archkck.org/rural-outreach or email
