Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty
O God our Creator,
from your provident hand we have received
our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
You have called us as your people and given us
the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God,
and your Son, Jesus Christ.
Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit,
you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world,
bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society.
We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty.
Give us the strength of mind and heart
to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened;
give us courage in making our voices heard
on behalf of the rights of your Church
and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith.
Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father,
a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters
gathered in your Church
in this decisive hour in the history of our nation,
so that, with every trial withstood
and every danger overcome—
for the sake of our children, our grandchildren,
and all who come after us—
this great land will always be "one nation, under God,
indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
We Welcome ~ Father Simon
"Lord Jesus, you are the fulfillment of all our hopes and desires.

A NOTE OF THANKS FROM BISHOP JOHNSTON
Dear Friends in Christ,
I am truly grateful for the many expressions of love and kindness surrounding the recent celebration of my
25th anniversary as a priest. The thoughtful support and congratulations through cards, prayer, spiritual
bouquets, among other things, are true gifts which I will always cherish. Thank you for joining me in
thanking God for the gift of priesthood to the Church. Continue to pray for me, our priests and seminarians,
and for an abundance of priestly vocations from our diocese-"ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers
into his harvest" (Mt 9:38). May God continue to bless you!
Gratefully yours in Christ, + James V. Johnston, Jr., Bishop of Springfield-Cape Girardeau

Dear Parishioners and Friends,
Truly our theme of Joyful Gratitude came through in so many ways at
our Jubilee celebrations!
We are so grateful for the many expressions of love and kindness we
experienced at the celebration of our 50 years of consecrated life as
School Sisters of Notre Dame.
The liturgy was so inspiring because of our own talented music ministry, our liturgical dancers, our
celebrants, and the outreach of hospitality that is so typical of our welcoming spirit.
We thank you too for the lovely Garden Party in our Parish Center. The decorations, including the photo
displays, fresh flowers, and the refreshing summer luncheon menu all added to the joy of the celebration.
We are especially grateful to a small committee of three women who made it all happen: Josie Huffman,
Karen Murphy, and Sharon Tangeman. They in turn recruited our generous volunteers from office ministry
women to help with so many other details to make the Garden Party so special. So many others of you
offered your time, talent, and treasure in humble anonymity — we thank you also.
Know that you are all in our grateful prayers and that we will always cherish your kindness and generosity.
Gratefully in Notre Dame, Sister Francine and Sister Charlotte
We are called to be prayerful people, during the overnight hours from … Adorers are needed to
spend an hour in the wee hours of the Thursday mornings with Jesus!
12:00 ~ 1:00am
4:00 ~ 5:00am
1:00 ~ 2:00am
5:00 ~ 6:00am
He asks that we come and sit with Him for an hour. We don't have to DO anything. We just spend the hour
with His presence in the Holy Eucharist, in Communion with Him, looking at Him and letting His loving grace, His
loving presence fill us and hold us close to His Sacred Heart! Our presence with Him is a prayer and is very
powerful!! Please, Call the Church office at 334-2928 and let them know which hour you can commit to the Lord.
Thank you for your generous support of our Holy Father’s charitable works in the Peter’s
Pence Collection. Your contributions will be combined with those of our brothers and sisters around the
world to help Pope Francis provide essential relief to people in need, Your generosity is an act of solidarity
with the universal Church answering the call to be a witness of charity, May God bless you.
Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) Retreat Weekend
Women’s Weekend – August 22-23 * Men’s Weekend – August 29-30
What is CRHP? Christ Renews His Parish is a formal process for enriching the spiritual lives of
parishioners through Sacred Scripture and parish involvement. It was started in the Catholic Church in 1969
and is practiced throughout the United States and several other countries.
What is the purpose of the weekend? The purpose is threefold:
1) to get to know your fellow parishioners;
2) to read and reflect on scripture; and
3) to experience the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist in a special setting.
How long does the weekend last? The retreat begins Saturday morning at 8:00am and concludes Sunday
afternoon at 5:00pm.
For more information call: Lynn Melendez 339-2825 [email protected]
Deacon Dan Vaughn 417-336-5585 [email protected]
WHAT CRHP IS NOT: · It's not a silent retreat · It's not a public confession
· It’s not a parish ministry · It’s not an emotional cult · It’s not a pre-selected group or clique

“THE BODY, IN FACT, AND ONLY THE BODY,
IS CAPABLE OF MAKING VISIBLE WHAT IS
INVISIBLE:THE SPIRITUAL AND THE DIVINE.”
Thursday, July 9th at 6:30 begins
an eight week session on
“Theology of the Body”
St. John Paul II's integrated vision
of the human person.
The human body has a specific meaning, making visible an invisible reality, and is capable of revealing
answers regarding fundamental questions about us and our lives:







Is there a real purpose to life and if so, what is it?
What does it mean that we were created in the image of God?
Why were we created male and female? Does it really matter if we are one sex or another?
What does the marital union of a man and woman say to us about God and his plan for our lives?
What is the purpose of the married and celibate vocations?
What exactly is "Love"?
Is it truly possible to be pure of heart?
All of these questions, and many more, are answered in the “Theology of the Body,” delivered by St. John
Paul II between 1979 and 1984. His reflections are based on Scripture and contain a vision of the human
person truly worthy of man. Emphasizing the theme of love as self-gift, they counteract societal trends which
view the body as an object of pleasure or as a machine for manipulation. Instead, the body shows us the call
and gives us the means to love in the image of God. His theology is not only for young adults or married
couples, but for all ages and vocations, since it sums up the true meaning of being a person.
