Red stakes indicate a lateral hazard. First, in order to proceed under the rules afforded in Rule 26, the golfer must be virtually certain the ball is in the hazard. Here are your five options on how to proceed. 1. Play the ball from where you last played. 2. Play the ball as it lies. 3. Take two club lengths no closer to the hole from the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard, drop, play from there. 4. Take the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard and keeping that point in line with the flagstick go back as far as you want (no closer to the hole!), drop, and play. 5. You may go to a point on the opposite side of the margin of the water hazard equidistant from the point where the ball crossed the hazard line, drop, then play. Yellow stakes indicate a water hazard. Once again, you must be virtually certain the ball is in the hazard. In this instance, you have three options. 1. Play the ball from where you last played. 2. Play the ball as it lies. 3. Take the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard and keeping that point in line with the flagstick go back as far as you want (no closer to the hole!), drop, and play. White stakes indicate Out of Bounds. If your ball is out of bounds you must take the stroke and distance penalty and play from where you just hit and add a penalty stroke. Remember, the more rules you know, the more they can help you!! MAKING A SPLASH — LCC POOL CASEY HAMILTON / POOL MANAGER The water’s great, come on in!! Welcome to the 2015 season! It is my commitment to you that this season will offer the very best of Service, Safety and Smiles. Our lifeguards this year have been selected from numerous applicants; I am very pleased to have the opportunity to give you the best. The responsibility of pool safety is shared by every person using the pool. Attending adults should be motivated to assist in the adherence to the pool rules and promote the value with our guests and children. The easiest and quickest way to resolve a concern is through informal verbal discussion with the senior lifeguard present. It is encouraged to use this method to the maximum possible extent. Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, was formerly known as Decoration Day and originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war. By the 20th century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end. Memorial Day is not to be confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans. As a Veteran myself I know unquestionably that our nations real Heroes do not come home. Let us never forget them. Warm Regards, Casey GETTING BACK INTO THE SWING OF IT — LCC TENNIS! So many things happening this month. We have the Annual Member Guest Tournament, sure to be a great time. Remember, all members are invited to attend the Saturday night party with the live band. Performing again this year will be “One Night Stand”! We also have the “Twang Daddies” back for a poolside party on June 12th! New this year, we are offering kid care every Friday night from 5:00 pm—9:00 pm. This will be supervised care for your child, which will range from movies and games in the heritage room, to playing games in the grassy area by the tennis courts. We hope this enables mom and dad to participate in our Friday couples golf, or just have a date night at the club! The parents must be present on property for safety purposes. I am so proud of our team here at LCC. They have all done a great job getting everything ready for the season. It seams no matter what is thrown at them, they are up for the challenge. We have made a lot of changes this year to the way the snack shack works in order to better serve our members. I hope you love it! As always, please send any feedback my way at [email protected] or on my cell 785-813-5128. I would love to give a team member a compliment from one of our members! Happy Summer! Rheanne KRISTEN SAMP / HEAD GOLF PRO BILL IRVING / GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT Golf season is in full swing and the golf calendar is packed! The golf season is off and running and we are working hard to provide the best possible conditions we can. One of the areas of the golf course that proves difficult to manage is the driving range tee. We have continued to post signs on the tee to encourage players to use the tee more efficiently. I have provided the image below: Plan on shopping the Golf Shop for Father’s Day. All men’s apparel is Buy One, Get One ½ off from June 1st-June 21st. Our first Junior Camp is June 1st-5th from 9:00am11:00am. Campers 12 years old and younger will learn all aspects of the game. The cost is $65 for members and $75 for non-members. Please sign up in the Golf Shop. 785-843-2938 The Ladies Invitational is June 8th-9th. This is the premier women’s event for LCC. Please plan to play or volunteer. We will need junior golfers to spot golf balls on the course, volunteers to help provide breakfast for the participants on Monday morning, and help with registration. Contact the Golf Shop to sign up! The Men’s Member Guest is June 18th-20th. We have exciting things planned for this year. There are still a few spots available to play and to sponsor. Help us make this the best event in the Midwest! There is still time to sign up for the PGA Jr League. This is a great opportunity for kids of all skill levels to play golf in a team environment. Contact Ryan in the Golf Shop to sign up!! The Women’s Q is June 27th and 28th. This is a blind draw two person one best ball tournament. All skill levels are welcome to play in this fun event. Sign up in the Golf Shop! Golf for Tots is June 14th at 2:00pm. The monthly Family Par Three scramble is June 28th at 2:00. As the season continues we are getting busier. You must call and make a tee time! This helps us be ready and ensures you will get to play when you want. We cannot guarantee you a time if you don’t call. Thanks for your help! Everyone must post every score! Even nine hole scores should be posted. As we get into match play and other tournaments, know those scores will be posted as tournament scores and weigh Congratulations Kristen! more heavily on your handicap. If there are questions about your ESC On scoring second place score or how to fill out at the 2015 Regional your scorecard in a four ball match, please ask! Stroke Play Tournament Let’s have a great summer! Kristen at the Las Vegas Golf Club! By using this approach to hitting balls on the range, we will not only conserve more of the tee area and have good turf for more of the season, but divots will heal in a more timely fashion and footing will be more stable when the ropes are moved into that area again. By using this method, the seed applied to the divots has more protection from traffic and use, and the turf along the edges of the divots will lay over and fill in the voids more readily. The large patch removal of turf when practicing makes for a more uneven surface that takes much longer for recovery, even under optimal growing conditions. Finally, we are buttoning up a couple of projects and prepping for normal summer maintenance. Some existing drainage issues on #1 and an irrigation install on #16 green complex should have us ready for the summer. The golf course is in great shape so I hope to see many more members out taking advantage of it! Bill Irving [email protected] @lccozzie on Twitter New Dining Hours!
