The Coxes
In his 1939 family history, Ray Hurlburt speculated that the Cox family
was of French descent. The Cox link with the Columbus McDaniel line
is through Nancy Agnes Cox who married Solomon Franklin McDaniel,
Columbus' son. Nancy’s parents, William Cox and Hannah Lamie, lived
in Olympia, in Rich Valley. Olympia is just south of Nebo and an 1899
topographic map of Smyth County show’s Olympia’s location. In that
same area is a Cox Branch stream that shows on current maps. Nancy’s
family line follows:
