2015 SUMMER
WELCOME!
Summer has arrived in Wisconsin, making it time for residents and
visitors alike to get outdoors and enjoy our abundant parks and
recreational opportunities, right here in “Our Home Port!”
With that, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2015 issue of Parks
Plus, your guide to Summer fun and activity in Port Washington. I
am honored to offer that introduction on behalf of our dedicated,
talented Parks and Recreation staff members and all throughout
our city who play a role in providing, supporting, and maintaining
our amazing resources and program offerings.
As a City, we are indeed extremely proud of our very impressive
list of park resources. In fact, when we opened Coal Dock Park in
late 2013, it represented our city’s 34th park. It will long serve as a
remarkable tribute to our city’s commitment to natural resource
and green space planning and has the potential to become a real
regional attraction for generations to come. Of course, it is one of
34; with our new bike park adjacent to our skateboard park
opening Spring of 2014, and the Summer 2014 launch of our new
multi-use trail (off the Interurban Trail), the list of attractions and
activities only grows. In fact, our Parks & Recreation Board is
currently in pursuit of a National Gold Medal Parks Award, and I
am confident a few Summer days spent recreating and relaxing
here will underscore why we feel pretty confident about our
chances!
I encourage you to take advantage of all our neighborhood and
lakefront parks offering a wide variety of activities for all ages to
enjoy. We are so fortunate to have so many opportunities during
the Summer months to connect with community and celebrate the
season. Join your friends and neighbors at Pirates’ Hallow Water
Park or take in a movie with your family during Friday Night Flicks
at the lake. Relax and experience the beauty of our lakefront
while listening to great music performed at Veterans’ Park by our
City Band as well as a wide variety of other concert performers.
Enjoy a quiet Sunday afternoon picnic down at Rotary Park or
grab your kids and their kites and head to Coal Dock Park for
some fun and a vista to remember.
So, get out and celebrate the season with friends and family here
in “Our Home Port!”
My very best wishes to you and yours for a safe, happy, and
memorable Summer.

Mayor – City of Port Washington
Resident Definition
Persons living in the City of Port Washington and are
therefore contributing to the tax base through which the
Department is subsidized. In cases where the program
utilizes a Port Washington/Saukville School facility, a
resident shall be defined as persons living within that
District.
Fair Share Statement
Port Washington residents make a significant contribution
to the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department.
City property taxes are the primary source of funds
necessary to operate the Department. Regardless of the
level of use, each city property owner contributes equally.
The Fair Share concept is intended to assess non-residents
an equalized fee designed to recover operating costs and
where appropriate, capital debt costs.
Capital debt costs are those associated with the design and
construction of park and recreation facilities which require
borrowing and a subsequent annual debt service. The
capital cost per household will therefore be added to the
non-resident fee.

Park Areas & Rentals
Park Descriptions
.
Rotary Park: Renovated and expanded in
2000, Rotary Park has become one of the
most scenic parts of an already breathtaking
lakefront. Centered in the park is a beautiful
gazebo, which features a panoramic view of
the City’s iconic lighthouse. The park is a
perfect setting for a wedding ceremony. An
integral part of Rotary Park is the Commercial Fisherman’s Memorial. The memorial serves as tribute to those who worked at one
time or another on boats and docks or in related work such as the
markets, processing plants, offices, etc. Rotary Park is featured as
part of our 1.2 mile Harborwalk; you can walk either direction from
Rotary Park, past many downtown businesses, to either the North
or South Beaches as well as to Upper Lake Park.

Resident ID Cards
Strict conformance of the Resident/Non-resident
policy will be enforced at the Waterpark. Residents
expect nothing less than non-residents paying their
fair share. Therefore, the following procedure will be
in place again this season:
All City of Port Washington residents who do not posess
a drivers license must confirm their residence before
entering the Waterpark so as to avoid paying nonresident fees. Therefore, a Resident Identification Card
must be obtained from the Recreation Department
office.
This card must be brought to the waterpark each time
and shown to the cashier who will then charge the
resident fee.
Non-Resident fees will be charged to anyone not
offering a picture ID such as the Resident Card or a
Drivers License.
Parents are required to bring their children to the office
and show their residency prior to securing the ID for their
children.
There is no charge for the 1st photo, but a $5 fee will be
collected for all replacement ID’s.
