We are proud to announce that we have been named a 2014 PWCS School of Excellence! This

and moving toward the goals of the Division's Strategic Plan.
We would like to congratulate all of our students and thank our staff, parents and supportive
community for working together to support student learning.
We will celebrate this award on Friday, March 13th, with a celebration featuring the ROES Choir
and Strings.
Dr. Walts, PWCS Superintendent of Schools, and members of the PWC School Board have been

D. Wells & L. James
We’ve all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of
the day. Recently, significant evidence has documented a link
between eating breakfast and learning. Skipping breakfast
and experiencing hunger impair children’s ability to learn.
Children who skip breakfast are less able to differentiate
among visual images, show increased errors, and have slower
memory recall. Eating breakfast helps improve children’s
academic performance. Children who eat a complete
breakfast make fewer mistakes and work faster in math and
number checking tests. Having breakfast improves a child’s
concentration, alertness, comprehension, memory, and
learning. Whether you serve breakfast at home or your child
eats breakfast at school, make breakfast a priority.
March’s Character Trait is:
Honesty



Telling the truth, admitting wrongdoing
Being trustworthy and acting with integrity
Being honest and reliable in carrying out
commitments and duties
Pennies for Patients®
Mrs. Lester’s Cafeteria Update
In celebration of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday on Monday, March 2,
the cafeteria will be serving Green Eggs and Ham for
Breakfast. So come eat breakfast with your child (ren) and
enjoy some green eggs and ham.
Students in Kindergarten through 5 Grade will be learning
about healthy eating on March 2. PWCS Food Service
Department are sponsoring a play titled My Plate.
Please remember to keep your child’s account for lunch
current. We do our best to keep you posted on the balances of
your child’s account with verbal reminders, letters and calls. If
you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to
contact the cafeteria at (703) 221-1018. If you want to monitor
the balance of your child’s account, PWCS has an online
option available. You can visit mylunchmoney.com. This site
offers online transaction services in addition to viewing
student’s meal purchases.
During the month of March, 2nd – 20th, we will be
teaming up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to
collect Pennies for Patients®. This program is a special
community project that will help support local children,
between the ages of 2 and 15 years old, who are battling
a blood cancer. Blood cancer education will occur
through morning announcements, posters, and the
sharing of a local youth patient’s story.
This project will allow students to develop life skills and
understand that they can make a difference in the lives
of others. It will show the value of a penny, as well as
the power of teamwork. ALL funds raised will go
towards life-saving research and local patient services.
The class that collects the most money will win a pizza
party donated by Domino’s Pizza.
Please remember that children helping children is what
makes Pennies for Patients® so unique. It is my hope
that you and your family will join the Pennies for
Patients® program and help make a difference in the
lives of others. For more information about Blood
Cancers and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society,
please visit: www.schoolandyouth.org. For questions,
please feel free to contact Mrs. Wells at
[email protected] or (7030441-0050.
PWCS Student Transfers for the
2015-2016 School Year
The PWCS Student Transfer request process begins
January 5 through April 30, 2015. Transfers are granted to
accommodate Prince William County residents with
elementary children when both parents are employed full
time outside the home and it is necessary for someone in a
different school attendance area to care for the student before
and/or after school. Transfer requests are also granted for
schools with designated Site Programs. This process is for
new and returning transfer students. Parent/Guardians are
encouraged to read the information on the student transfer
request process in Regulation 721-1.
Box Tops for Education
Remember to keep clipping box tops to help our school.
Throwing away empty boxes and containers that have
box tops for Education logos on them is like throwing
money away, since we receive 10¢ cash for each one
collected. That means saving just 10 of them from the
garbage is an extra dollar for our school. These dollars
add up quickly when everyone pitches in to save box
tops. Simply look for products with the pink Box tops
for Education logo. Clip them and give them to your
child to take to school to give their teacher.
Request forms are available on the PWCS website:
http://studentservices.departments.pwcs.edu/modules/c
ms/pages.phtml?pageid=259854& .
