Issue 13
15 May 2015
Principal’s Note
Welcome to this week’s newsletter. As I write this the year 7s and Year 9s have just
completed their NAPLAN testing regime. They all gave their best and their teachers
are happy with their efforts. It has been a long week for them and I was proud that
they gave their best. This week our seniors also finished up on their CPR training so
now almost all the students in the school have completed CPR training. Next week
is week 5 and consequently there will be assessments due. Term 2 Junior
assessment calendars were distributed to student in Years 7, 8 and 9 this week. This
weekend would be a good time to discuss with your child what assessment they
have due. Also next week there is the Cross country trials and interschool sport
round 1, so it is vital that our students are planning ahead and keeping up with their
subjects

Winter uniform expectations summary
Like the summer uniform transition, we will allow students to wear the same winter
uniform as last year. That means they may wear maroon or grey jackets or track
pants as we have in the past. Next year it will be maroon only as the grey has been
phased out. Students should be encouraged to buy our maroon jackets and track pants
as this will not change next year. Please note: black is not part of the winter school
uniform the only exception is the black skivvies are allowed along with maroon for the
girls. Please also note that detentions are only given for students not bringing a note
explaining why they are out of uniform. Please speak to the HODs or myself if you have
any queries.

The Campdraft Canteen was a massive undertaking and I was extremely proud of the quality of the food we served during the weekend. We
sold over $11,000 in food and drink from Thursday night to Sunday afternoon. We have received nothing but positive feedback from the
Campdraft Committee and the public and I wish to thank each and every volunteer who gave up their time over the weekend to help out.
Without the help of each and every person the weekend would not have been such a success. I would like to especially thank the following

Uniforms, uniforms, uniforms. Well there is never a topic more likely to cause a stir than this. Capella SHS P&C support the CSHS Uniform
Code of 2015 and ask that all families be mindful of this when purchasing clothing and footwear for students to wear to school. As this year is a
transition year the school will allow students to wear garments from either the 2014 or 2015 dress code. This means that if your student has the
old style polo or maroon shorts they may still wear this until the start of next year. The same goes for the winter uniform. This year students may
wear grey tracksuit pants & jumpers (no hoodies) however next year all students should only be wearing the school colours of maroon for
tracksuit bottoms & tops.
Thursday 23 October 2014
Art Show 6:30pm
CSHS and your P&C recognise that uniforms are another cost associated with schooling and we urge any family who is finding it difficult to
purchase garments which comply with the dress code to approach the Principal, Mr Clarke to discuss the matter privately. Mr Clarke has
assured the P&C that the school will make every effort to work with families when it comes to this matter.
Show 7:00pm
A reminder to all families & students that the Uniform Shop is now only operating Wednesday 8am – 10am, Friday 11am – 2pm and by
appointment only on other days. We ask that you visit the Tuckshop Front Window for all uniform requirements. The school have kindly
provided a room at the back of F Block which we will be outfitting as a Uniform Shop and when it is all set up and ready to go we will let you
know.
Dinner & Show $20.00
Tickets available from Capella SHS Office from Monday, 7 October 2014
Keep a lookout in the next few days for raffle booklets coming home with your students as we are running a “Warm Up for Winter” raffle to be
drawn on 29th May. 1st Prize is a Nova Outdoor Gas Patio Heater valued at $299 & 2nd Prize is an Aztec Ceramic Firepit valued at $114. Tickets
are $2 each or 3 for $5. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the front of Capella Agencies this Saturday morning and again at the May
Lions Market on 24th May.
Our next meeting is 9th June at 6.30pm at Tieri Library. Everyone is welcome please come along and join in. We are also still looking for a

Goal Setting
not hesitate to email me at [email protected] or contact me at school.
Maths and English Teachers are currently working with all students to set Independent Learning Goals (ILGs) for this term.
All students are required to set a realistic goal with their teachers; then to demonstrate their effort with evidence of work towardsPerry
their goal. Achieving goals will gain students access to a reward day in the final week of term. Last term’s reward was

Year 12 Skilling – Rights with Responsibili!es
Last Friday the Year 12s hosted an aOernoon skilling session for the Year 10 and 11 students focusing on one of our school
values of Rights with Responsibili!es. The 12s first explained how the aOernoon would operate before dividing the two
cohorts in to three rota!onal groups. Within these groups the year 12 students led an ac!vity that encouraged group
par!cipa!on whilst focusing on the core characteris!cs that make up the selected school value.
The aOernoon was well received by both students and staff and it was pleasing to see the cohorts working together to
achieve a common goal. It is important that students work with other students from a variety of year levels to ins!l
mateship and trust amongst the school body. In three weeks !me the Year 11 students will be hos!ng a skilling aOernoon
similar to that of the Year 12s, focusing on another one of our school’s values.
