Arnaldo M. Sánchez, OSM - Director OSM SECULAR ORDER—638-3938 Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Building the Domestic Church: “The Family Fully Alive.” - Fr. Paul Gins, O.S.M. This is a worldwide imitative of the Knights of Columbus that starts this month and continues for twelve months. Prayers and family activities are planned for councils connected to multiple parishes such as our Fr. Griffin’s Council. There is a family activity for each month. The suggestion for October is to create a family tree to learn where you came from and celebrate your ancestry. Make the time to sit together as family to build the tree. How far can you trace it back? Use old photos and contact distant relatives for stories you may not be familiar with. Because the Lord is the God of our ancestors, we want to strengthen the relationship between your family’s generations. There is a Psalm of the Month that can be used every Sunday at your family prayer time. October’s is Psalm 105: O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, Make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him, tell of all his wonderful works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his presence continually! Remember the wonderful works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, O offspring of Abraham his servant, sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! He is the Lord our God; His judgments are in all the earth. He is mindful of his covenant forever of the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations, the covenant that he made with Abraham, his sworn promise to Isaac, which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan as your portion for an inheritance.” October 12, 2014 Our parish Oktoberfest is Saturday, October 18th. Details are elsewhere in the bulletin. The Knights of Columbus fundraiser at Bob Evans is again this Thursday from 6 am to 9 pm. Mention K of C Columbian Charities and Bob Evans will donate 15% of your bill. Thank you for your donations to the Tootsie Roll Drive. Pope Frances wrote, “World Mission Sunday is a privileged moment which the faithful of various continents engage in prayer and concrete gestures of solidarity of the young Churches in mission lands.” On October 19th the Archdiocese of St. Louis takes up the annual collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith and its support of 1,150 young mission dioceses and communities who await the “Good News” of Jesus as their saving hope. Congratulations to parishioner Tom Schiller as he and his classmates for the diaconate received the Ministry of Lector on October 9th. It is requested that he lector at least three weekends a month and rotates from one mass to another. In a commentary for this week’s Gospel story the author points out that the main focus of the parable on attending a wedding banquet is on the response given to the invitation and the manner in which it is lived out. He asks, how do you choose which Mass you “go to” on a weekly basis? Does it simply fit into your schedule, or does your schedule revolve around the communal banquet? When you choose to come to the weekly banquet it should be arriving with enough time to prayerfully put away the distractions of the afternoon or morning. Take his and my advice. Schedule enough time to park, make your way inside and still have a few minutes for collecting yourself. The weather kept the registration pavilion from being put outside. Gail sat inside before and after the 9am and 11am Masses last week. Only one new registration was made. A bit of TWB was sold. Thank you. Maybe once a month we will make a specific effort for parish registration in the Church or use the slip at the bottom of this page and we’ll be in touch with you. Welcome. Copies of the State of the Parish Report were sent to over 1,000 households. If you would like one, let me know. Copies are in the sacristy. We welcome all who come to worship with us. If you wish to join our Parish Faith Community, or have a change in your contact information, kindly complete the following form. You can return this to the Priory Office, place in the collection basket or give it to a Priest or Deacon. She was planning to abort her child. "But because you all were here, I changed my mind….You all are making a difference.” This is an excerpt from a recent post from www.coalitionforlifestl.com Through the grace of God, when “ordinary” people gather and prayer an hour or two on the sidewalk, miracles can happen. All parishioners are welcome to come to the Planned Parenthood abortion facility, at Forest Park and Boyle to pray peacefully between 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Sunday, October 12th. Please continue to pray, especially through the end of the campaign on Sunday, Nov 2nd.
