TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY
IN ORDINARY TIME
OCTOBER 12TH, 2014
Happy Thanksgiving
to all of our parishioners
and your families.
Dearly beloved in Christ,
Last week a parishioner asked me,
“Father, do you know the significance of First
Friday?” A good question for many of us
who practice our faith and take things for
granted. Once in a while it is good to ask
why we do what we do.
St. Thomas Aquinas defined
devotion as a certain, ready will to give one
self to whatever concerns the service of God.
It is an act of the will whereby a person
offers himself to God to serve him. First
Friday Devotion derives from revelations
made by Christ to St. Margaret Mary
Alacoque (1647-1690). It is the practice of
receiving Holy Communion on nine
consecutive first Fridays in making
amendments to “the Sacred Heart that has
loved men so and is loved so little in
return” (Christ to Margaret Mary). Through
the devotion is also the promises of final
perseverance in the Catholic Faith, reception
of the last sacraments, death in the state of
grace and the consolation of the love of
Christ’s Sacred Heart at the time of death.
Devotion such as this foster
frequent confession and proper participation
in the Eucharistic Sacrifice, as well as
meditation on the mysteries of our
redemption and imitation of the examples of
saints in heaven, have been approved and
praised again and again by the Apostolic See.

St. James & St. Ann's School is once again
participating in the Fundscrip gift
card program. This allows you to
purchase gift cards for things that you usually
buy for yourself - groceries, gas, clothing, etc.
However, at the same time you are helping to
make money for our school, and it doesn't
cost you anything. If you regularly purchase
your groceries at Superstore and spend about
$500 a month, why not purchase $500 worth
of gift cards for Superstore through this
monthly program? You then use these gift
cards to purchase your groceries throughout
the month. The October order form can be
found on the school's website at
www.stjameselementary.ca, under the
"Parents" tab in "forms". Please print the
order form, fill it out and bring it to the
