TWENTY-NINETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME PARISH NEWS, Continued PARISH NEWS, Continued Increased Offertory Initiative Today’s Readings “No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other or be attentive to the one and despise the other.” (Luke 16:13). Stewardship is an important concept for our spiritual growth as Catholics. It is a way of thanking God for all God’s blessings by returning to him a portion of our time and treasure. Giving of our time involves being with God in prayer and worship and volunteering our time in the church and community activities that help others. Sharing our talents arises from the fact that God has given each of us the ability and gifts to do certain things well, and we are to develop those talents for the good of others. Sharing our treasure gives us the opportunity to share our abundance with God, the church and with others. “Wherever your treasure lies, there your heart will be.” (Luke 12:34) BAPTISM AND RCIA TEAM MEMBERS NEEDED Our Baptism and RCIA programs are in need of additional team members. Ideally we hope to have several team members so that those volunteers might only need to commit to one monthly meeting. Team members needn’t be theologians or scholars of Catholic doctrine, just members of the Catholic community with a deep love for God and a willingness to share their faith. Those interested learning more may contact Bernadette at 781-893-8461. FALL MEAT RAFFLE Be sure to mark your calendar for the annual Fall Meat Raffle, Friday, November 21st. WORLD MISSION SUNDAY 2014 This weekend, members of the Marist Missionary Sisters community will speak at all Masses in observance of World Mission Sunday. World Mission Sunday is a day set aside for the Catholic Church throughout the world to publicly renew its commitment to the missionary movement. World Mission Sunday is ordinarily celebrated on the third Sunday of October every year. This day of recognition of Catholic Missions world-wide was instituted by Pope Pius XI in 1926 as the day of prayer and support for the propagation of the faith throughout the world. This Sunday’s second collection supports our foreign missions and all those, like the good Sisters who serve them. Please be as generous as possible. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT Eucharistic Adoration had resumed and will take place on the First Friday of each month from 8:00AM-12:00 Noon. The Third Order of Mary will also hold Adoration on Sunday, October 19th from 2:30AM to 4:00PM and continuing at that time on the third Sunday of every month. VOLUNTEER(S) NEEDED We are seeking one or several volunteers for a relatively simple task, to “adopt a pump”. Our religious education building contains 6 large pumps which keep our rooms dry. They are relatively easy to maintain but they do require an occasional check to keep a balanced water level in the battery. We are seeking one or more volunteer who could take on the task of overseeing the pumps every other month or so and refilling the battery with water when necessary. John Carter, a parish volunteer who manages the systems in the church will be more than pleased to have a volunteer or two for the RE room pumps and will walk the volunteer through the process of checking and filling the battery. This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for busy parishioners or Religious Education parents who can’t commit much time but would like to help their church. For additional information contact Bernadette at 781-893-8461. ALL SOULS COMMEMORATION On Saturday, November 1st Sacred Heart will host the yearly Commemoration of the Deceased Parishioners in observance of the Feast of All Souls. The Mass will take place at 10:00AM. Family members of loved ones who were buried from Sacred Heart Church in the past year have been invited to honor and remember those loved ones at this special liturgy. During the liturgy a member of each family is invited to participate in the candle lighting ritual as the names of the deceased loved ones are read. Following the Mass all are invited to share in fellowship and enjoy light refreshments which will be served in the front vestibule of the church. OCTOBER MASS COUNTS If you can help, please arrive 15-20 minutes before the start of Mass Volunteer sign-up sheets for those who can designate a Mass to help at, can be found at the front and parking lot entrances of the church. The remaining Mass Count weekend is 25/26. BAPTISM PREPARATION This month baptism preparation classes will take place on Thursday, October 30th. Parents who are baptizing a child at Sacred Heart Church are required to attend the baptism preparation class prior to their child’s baptism. We welcome expectant parents and encourage them to attend preparation before choosing their child’s godparent. Knowing the responsibilities of a godparent (sponsor) will better prepare you for making this important choice for your child and his/her faith life. To arrange for the baptism of your child, please contact the Parish Office 781-899-0469 MondayThursday from 9:00AM-3:00PM. Baptism Classes are held in the Religious Education Center adjacent to the Parish Office building. OCTOBER 19, 2014 PARISH NEWS, Continued LIFE CHALLENGES AND THE CHURCH COMMUNITY Research shows that some people with varying stages of dementia/ Alzheimer's disease, attending Mass may be overly stimulating, while for others with the same conditions it can be a source of comfort and reflection. The same can be said for those who attend Mass from our local area Group Residences for those who are differently-abled. In both cases many of these Mass attendees come to church accompanied by caregivers, whether family members or employed companions to assist them at Mass. Our role as members of the church is to make every effort to welcome everyone and insure that their faith experience is fruitful and enriching. It might be as simple as moving into a pew to enable caregivers and their charges to have easy accessibility, handing a worship aid to those who might benefit by following the text, and most importantly by meeting other Mass goers with a friendly smile and kind words. Finally, remember that oftentimes those impacted by memory diminishing illnesses may not remember a name or face making it even more challenging in a church setting when encountering old friends. Greeting them and affirming their presence at Mass is important. Even if they seem distant or confused as to whom you are, most caregivers would agree that the personal outreach and human contact can make a difference in the person’s quality of life. As we face an ever-growing and aging population, we will encounter more and more people who need our understanding and friendship. Let us pray that we may follow the call of Jesus by welcoming others and sharing our love and compassion. "Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the p" riests"of the church, and let them pray over him."– James 5:14 On the weekend of November 22nd and 23rd the Friars will administer the sacrament of the anointing of the sick. Father Octavio and Father Dennis will administer the Sacrament following the 4:00PM Mass on Saturday and following the 10:00AM Mass on Sunday. The Sacrament of the Sick is administered to those who are gravely ill, to those about to undergo a serious operation and for those undergoing treatment for the recovery of their health and for spiritual strength appropriate not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness. Anointing of the Sick is administered by a priest to any person who has reached the age of reason and whose health is in jeopardy due to grave illness. This rite is one way in which the Church continues the healing ministry of Jesus. The healing offered by this anointing is forgiveness of sins, hope and inner peace, sometimes physical healing, and an assurance of God's steadfast care, even in death. If you, or a loved one desire the healing touch of Christ, we encourage you to partake of the sacrament of the sick. For those who need assistance, please utilize the handicapped parking and handicapped entrance on Grove Street. CRAFTERS WANTED The Sacred Heart Christmas Shop is just two weeks away.
