The Kreutz Creek Valley Library serves over 4,000 card holders in the York County Libraries System.
The Friends of Kreutz Creek Valley Library are tasked with raising approximately $32,000 of the
$90,000 yearly operating costs for our library. This amounts to $108.00 per day that the Friends must
raise representing the local contribution. Now you can assist the Friends by participating in their
“Sponsor a Day” program. By sponsoring a day you are helping to cover the costs of programs such
as Babies and Toddlers story times and Preschool story times, the summer reading club program and
Tween activities.

informational programs for all ages, free WIFI, and tech assistance from our “Tech Guru”.
Additionally, you will be supporting the free access to books, magazines, audio CDs and on-line
resources
You may “Sponsor a Day” in recognition of someone special, in memory of someone or to
commemorate a special date/milestone. You choose the date and who you wish to recognize all while
supporting Kreutz Creek Valley Library. Sponsorships will be showcased on our roadside library sign,

President’s message
On Saturday, October 4th, the KC Friends held our
second big book sale for the year. It was held in the new
Hellam Township Maintenance Building across the street from
the library. This has proved to be a very convenient spot to
have our book sales. There is plenty of room for the thousands
of books we collect throughout the year. I want to say a thank
you to Brett Raver and his Township Maintenance crew for
cleaning out the building and getting it ready for the sale.
This year we raised $3,400.00 for the Kreutz Creek
Valley Library. In addition to the books, we sold bake goods and jewelry which was
also donated by our patrons. These are always popular spots to check out when
patrons get tired of looking at books. Thank you to everyone who donated books,
baked goods, and jewelry. As you can see it all adds up to a successful sale.
All the money we make from our two book sales each year is used for direct
costs for the library. We pay a third of the operating costs of the library to the York
County Library System which comes to $32,000 for this year. We also sponsor special
programs at the library which include the Summer Reading Program.
The sale is a lot of work to set up and tear down. Just getting the boxes of books
moved from our storage container next to the library to the building across the street
takes a borrowed truck and some strong backs. However before that we have to
spend time organizing the books and arranging for the advertising. There were a lot of
hands involved and I would like to thank everyone who worked to make the sale
possible.
I also want to remind you that our Fall Fundraising Campaign has started.
Letters have gone out to Hellam Township residents in their Fall Township Newsletter.
We also send fundraising letters to our previous donors. Otherwise you can download
a donation form or pick one up at the library. This year we are raffling off a $150.00
Amazon gift card. Each donation of $25 will get you one raffle ticket. For example if
you donate $100, your name will be placed in the raffle 4 times. The drawing will be
held on Thursday, December 18th at the library. Please have your donations to the
library by Saturday, December 13th so you can be entered in the drawing.

Our featured author for this year, Lewis Carroll, has often inspired other writers. Neil
Gaiman wrote Coraline with a nod to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It is the story
of a girl who finds a way into another world and it turns out to be a lot more
sinister than the one that Alice found through the looking glass. Join us for the
first part of our journey with Coraline!

ACCESSING THE NEWSLETTER
The monthly newsletter has been entered on the website each and every month; however, we had been having
problems in sending out the notice to subscribers. This is the third issue using this new site.. Unfortunately,
we lost many of our email addresses. I have used an old list, but some of you may have changed addresses, left
the area, or discontinued your issues for some other reason. I apologize for this difficulty. With this new site,
you will be able to add, edit your address, or discontinue your notice. If you do not open your notice letter, your
name will automatically be deleted after six issues. And, I should be able to use one mailing rather than the
two or three which I had to do previously. THANK YOU, CORY>
You can continue to view the newsletter by accessing our website www.kcvlfriends.org or for the newsletter
directly , using www.kcvlfriends.org/newsletter/pdf. Please review our updated website, again, thanks to

A big “THANK YOU” to all of you who have supported your Library by
donating your books, baked goods, and jewelry and THANK YOU to
ALL OF YOU who came out to set up and tear down. As well as all
who have given up their Saturday to work on this project. But without
you, the ATTENDEES who visited on Saturday and made your
purchases, it would have all in vain. As a result of it all, the KCVL
grossed $3400.00 which amounts to one month’s payment due to the
York County Library System. Again, we THANK YOU
ALL SET UP AND READY TO GO!

About the newest Books, Movies, & Music
by signing up for WOWBRARY
on the York County Library website. (www.yorklibraries.org)
From this site you can support the library when shopping at Amazon.
Amazon is donating 7.5% of your purchases to the library.
Wowbrary is a fun way to keep informed when something new arrives at the
library.
Can’t find the word Wowbrary in the dictionary? According to an article, BOOK BUZZ, by Sarah Chain, this is a
new service from @YorkLibraries called Wowbrary. The idea is pretty simple: It highlights all the newitems
available at your local library each week — books, of course, but also media items like DVDs and ebooks.
From the website, you will.
You can tailor it to your interest. Once you sign up to receive the email, new items are broken down by
categories like mysteries and thrillers, or cooking, food and wine. So if you’re interested in just sports, or just
children’s titles, it’s easy to zero in on them.
It’s a no-commitment way to browse. Whenever you’re looking for a new book to read— voila! You have a
slew of options right at your fingertips. It’s easy to scroll through and read the plot summaries to see if you
might be interested.
Borrowing is easy as pie. Once you find a book (or other item) you’d like to check out, click “Borrow.” It
takes you right to the York County Libraries catalog, where you can log in and request the book.
“This is a great new way to enjoy and use your library more,” Deb Sullivan, community relations director for
the York
County Libraries, said in an email. “Our cardholders really enjoy having the list of new titles arrive in their
email. It keeps them informed and provides a convenient way to borrow the titles they want to read.”
To sign up, just visit www.wowbrary.org. Enter your zip code and select York County Libraries, and
then enter your
email address. You can also sign up for an RSS feed, if you’d prefer. All that’s left is sitting back and
waiting for your
weekly email —and of course, finding time to read all those books!
Sarah Chain is the books editor and a multiplatform copy editor at the York Daily Record / Sunday
News. She dabbles in green living, food, gardening and -- of course -- all things books-related.

SERVING EASTERN YORK COUNTY
The Friends of Kreutz Creek Valley Library have been busy this year making the many benefits of the library possible and
they need your help. In addition to lending books, the library provides its patrons with numerous programs, including:
 Summer reading programs for children, including
• Free use of six computers
incentive prizes
• Free WiFi
 Story times for babies and toddlers, as well as
• Free assistance from our “tech guru”
preschoolers
• Specialty programs for adults
We have had a lot of fun at library fundraising events, such as book sales, a summer carnival and a fancy tea party, to
name a few. Besides fundraisers, there is a real need for donations from the people who use the library week in and week
out.
The Friends are responsible for generating more than $32,000 per year to finance one third of the York County
Library’s cost to run the library. That adds up to about $108 for every day the library is open. Your donation is needed
for Kreutz Creek Valley Library to continue to provide great services and programs to the people of Eastern York
County.
WIN A $150 AMAZON GIFT CARD!!!
For each donation of $25, the donor will receive one raffle ticket for a $150 Amazon gift card!
Donations must be at the library no later than Saturday, December 13, 2014 to be eligible.
The drawing will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2014 at the library.
Thank you for your donation!
