Kurt: Our Parish Family The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed—The Feast of All Souls Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Patrick: Please help me welcome to the 5 P.M. Mass this Saturday the family, friends and neighbors of all those who have gone home to God this past year from the St. Patrick Parish Family. Following the homily, the names of our departed brothers and sisters will be read. If a family member is present, they will be invited up to the sanctuary to light a candle symbolizing that the faithfully departed are still with us around the table of the Lord. If a loved one cannot be present, we will still light a candle to honor the memory of the departed. Following the liturgy, we invite our grieving brothers and sisters to take their candle home to remember “where two or three are gathered in love” there is God, surrounded by all the Communion of Saints. I pray daily for all those who grieve and mourn, including my own family, that the peace and consolation that only God can give will be ours. Secondly I welcome Ms. Barb Brown and her family and friends to celebrate with her as she receives this year’s Christifideles Award. Monsignor John Canary, the main celebrant at this special liturgy, will present Barb with this distinguished service award representing Cardinal George. To me, Barb represents the many of this parish family who do so much to carry on the spirit of the Gospel message in humble ways. At our recent celebration for our 175th Anniversary, I received many compliments about how nice our grounds looked. Many visitors recognized our “face lift improvements” to our stairs, the Parish House, the beautiful landscaping, new paint on the St. Patrick lawn sign, our new sidewalks, and the new boiler system. These improvements all came about due to your generous support as private donors as well as contributions to our three year Capital Campaign. To update you on the Campaign, we have pledged $355,850.00 and received in hand $207,150.00. The campaign is only 1 1/2 years old and we have great numbers coming in. Projects still on the horizon include refinishing the northeast church door, finding a way to add handicap church access, a new church fire system, and new glass doors to replace the ones that frequently slam during services. Please continue to honor your pledges so we can make improvements to our sacred grounds in the future. With God’s blessings of peace, Again this year, the “Gently Used Winter Clothing Drive” was a HUGE success! You can't imagine the bags and bags of clothes that were delivered to Hope and Friendship from St. Pat's...more than the ¾ ton truck could hold! Absolutely Amazing! Absolutely Wonderful! Thanks to all for your continued generosity! Your Outreach Friends LEMONT FOOD PANTRY It's hard to believe, but the holidays are “right around the corner”. For many, it means lots of trips to the grocery store to get all the “extras” for the special meals we prepare. And as you are putting these special extra items into your carts, we ask that, if possible, you remember our friends from the Lemont Food Pantry. A jar of olives, a few cans of cranberry sauce, boxes of jello, instant potatoes, gravy...whatever you choose will help to make the holidays a bit more special for so many! As always, we say “thank you”, and as we head into this special time of your, may your blessings be many! St. Pat's Outreach Team ADOPTION - "THE LOVING OPTION" Kathryn Herrera, the Adoption Program Supervisor for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago will speak on November 13th, 2014 at 7 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 15050 Wolf Road, in Orland Park. Come and find out why adoption is still a viable alternative and is really the “Loving Option.” The program is sponsored by Multi Parish Respect Life Ministries from St. Francis of Assisi, St. Michael and Our Lady of the Woods, parishes in Orland Park. as well as St. Bernard's Parish, and Annunciation Byzantine Church in Homer Glen. Daylight Savings Time ENDS this weekend at 2am, Sunday. Don’t forget to set your clocks back to gain an hour. THE COMMEMORATION OF ALL THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED The affordable housing crisis is a growing one in today’s society. Fortunately, PLOWS may offer a solution through the Shared Housing Program. Our goal is to match home providers, those persons with an extra room to share in their home, with individuals looking for a place to live. People participate in the program for economic reasons, companionship and to maintain independence in the community. This program serves all ages; however, one person in each match must be a senior. We interview and check for references for potential participants, introduce appropriate persons, facilitate an agreement between the provider and sharer, and are available for follow- Book of Remembrance During the month of November you will see the Book of Remembrance placed prominently in the Sanctuary area of the altar. You are invited to come forward at any time you are visiting our church to write the names of loved ones you miss so dearly. Write a prayer to God. This is YOUR Book of Remembrance. At each Mass which we celebrate in November, those names and prayers will be lifted up to the very heart of God. up. Call 708-361-0219 or visit: http://www.plows.8m.com/shared.htm for more information. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place after the 8am Mass on Monday, November 3rd until 9:30am. Page 4 NOVEMBER 2,2014 Renee Payne, Principal 630-783-2220 [email protected] St. Patrick Church, RE Linda O’Connor, Director Visit: www.StAls-StPats.org MANY THANKS With wheelbarrows and shovels in hand the men of our school community came out to undertake a huge job. These men: Bill Kerfin, Brendan McGuire, Joel Clark, Mike Leonard, Mike Bruno, Paul Cochrane, Dave Calhoun and Chad from Olde English Gardens removed the pebbled area on the side of the gym, as well as the pebble box in the playground area. Once these were removed they laid mulch and new sod. To make it even more attractive, they planted day lilies along the side of the building. A special thank you to Olde English Gardens for donating the labor and equipment and Ms. Denise Valenza for donating the materials. FIRE SAFETY 2014 October is Fire Safety Month. Our primary students enjoyed a visit from Lemont firefighters who spoke to them about fire safety rules. The children learned about having an escape plan and a family meeting place should they have a fire in their home. They practiced crawling underneath some imaginary “smoke”. The firemen also gave the children a chance to see what a fireman would look like and sound like during a fire emergency. In their very own red firemen hats, the students were able to actually look at a fire engine up close! We are very grateful to our community firefighters for spending time helping our students learn how to stay safe. ARE THE BATTERIES IN YOUR SMOKE DETECTOR WORKING? DO YOU HAVE A HOME ESCAPE PLAN? SENIOR COMMUNITY CORNER: Attention Seniors-Beginning October 21st on Tuesdays from 12pm-3pm pinochle will be played in the Lions Room at the Centennial Community Center, 16028 127th St., Lemont. Come out to meet new friends and enjoy a friendly game of pinochle! Any questions, call Lauren Hanson at Lemont Park Dist. 630-257-6787 x3031 630-257-8012 [email protected] Our Archdiocese mandates that a program be taught in our Religious Education program that deals with basic personal safety skills for children, including how to recognize and react to child predators. We present the program to our grade 1 students each year. If you do not want your child to participate in this program or have any questions, please contact Linda in the RE Office (630-257-8012). Baby Bottle Project which benefits the Women’s Centers of Greater Chicagoland ends THIS WEEKEND. Please return all bottles by 5pm Sunday Mass. By God’s Grace, the Women’s Centers have saved over 37,000 babies-and their mothers– from abortion since opening in 1984. There is still time to help. All monetary donations are gratefully accepted. CATHOLIC HOME STUDY SERVICE (CHSS) SPONSORED BY THE MISSOURI KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS, IS A MINISTRY THAT HAS BEEN OFFERING COURSES ON THE CATHOLIC FAITH SINCE 1935. COURSES ARE FREE, EASY, ENJOYABLE, AND FAITHFUL TO THE TEACHINGS OF THE CHURCH. http://www.amm.org/chss/chss.asp 573-547-4084 What is RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is a process by which the Catholic Church welcomes new members into its communal life. RCIA is a living experience of the Church, and not just a series of classes that teach knowledge about the Church. Although there is instruction in the facts of the faith, instruction is but one part of a larger experience of knowing and sharing with other members of the Church. **Note-We also have an RCIA process teens and a program for children as well . If you are interested in learning more, please contact your pastor or call Doreen at 630.257.2414. At the west entrance to church you will see a turkey with yellow envelopes [feathers!]. Take a “feather” or two, put in whatever donation you wish-large or small, we're grateful for all! Then the next week return your “feather” to church. All monies collected will be used to buy grocery gift cards to help make sure Thanksgiving in Lemont is a little more delicious for all! On November 20th, at 6:30, the rosary will be said in church. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. What a great way to start the holiday season! Also on November 20th, after praying the rosary, members of Women's Club will be having their monthly meeting at a local restaurant. All women of the parish are invited to join Women's Club and to participate in all activities. The rewards are great and can also contribute to needed service hours.
