Having spoken to the trade at large, I feel the market will grow and improve in the coming season, but the quantum of improvement is the key question. The market improvement will be more gradual than sudden, on the back of consumer sentiment and confidence coming back into the Indian economy. We need to engage with the consumer more aggressively and the market needs new ideas and effective marketing, which is possibly the reason why we have seen an overwhelming positive response to the new segment creation. This gives all of us an opportunity to present something new and exciting to the consumer. What are the current challenges facing Indian manufacturers and retailers? How would you suggest that they are overcome? The biggest challenge is for jewellery to be relevant to the young consumer for whom jewellery is more for adornment rather than just a store of value. Currently we are fighting their wallet-share with other categories and we need to get their attention with differentiated product design that speaks to them. What are the new trends in jewellery design and consumption? The awareness of platinum increased because of the 360 degree integrated marketing programme of Platinum Day of Love that has been running this year. This has built a deep emotional-connect with the consumer and made platinum relevant in their life. Over and above the mass media campaigns, we are very active in the digital and social media space considering our audience is online and we get an opportunity to directly connect with them. The design language of platinum has been able to create a balance of tradition and modernity, offering a product which is an expression of modernity through tradition. Platinum appeals to the younger audience who is more educated and aware of international trends and willing to try out newer options. There is also a growing trend of young brides who are looking at platinum as a part of their wedding trousseau. There is also an increasing desire for men’s jewellery, which presents an additional opportunity for platinum. At the regional level, partners and PGI are looking at further developing the men’s segment after witnessing a robust growth last year. Young men today are not only looking at bands in platinum, but are also taking to platinum chains, and bracelets. The plans are on the anvil of launching an exciting new segment in platinum. The PGI has put in over a year of qualitative and quantitative research to identify the consumer insight, need-gaps, understand key motivators to arrive at the final design, product and marketing strategy for the new segment. The industry can now look forward to an exciting new offering in platinum that will soon be on the shelves by the end of the year. Industry View from Gujarat Signature is an exclusive top line jewellery show, exhibiting the best jewellery collections from antique to modern. The show provides excellent sourcing opportunities and meetings for both participants and exclusive visitors. At Signature the decision makers gain from viewing the latest jewellery designs, and they get to understand the current trends in the market at a single place. Visitors also gain from one-on-one meetings and developing new contacts. They can browse everything on display at leisure and the exhibitors too can interact in a relaxed manner. Participants benefit from having patient and business-minded visitors. I am hopeful that the industry will witness growth in the coming months. Consumer spending appetite traditionally increases during the Dussera and Diwali festivals, which are considered auspicious times to buy jewellery. Further, during the wedding season there would be demand for the jewellery in cities from November to March, and up to May in small towns. Retailers usually purchase regular items which are in demand throughout the year in the beginning of the year. But items which are specific for various festivals are sourced 2 to 3 months in advance considering the market trend and demand. We are encouraging our members to attend because Signature is the right place to be at as it undoubtedly showcases India’s finest in top-ofthe-line jewellery design and manufacturing and has room for everyone. Shantibhai Patel, President, Gem & Jewellery Trade Council of India Visitor Voices S ignature is a key event in India’s jewellery calendar and over the last few years become a excellent platform for gem & jewellery companies to do business. It is no doubt a premium jewellery sourcing event with defined sections like Signature Club and other sections where buyers can comfortably compare all available options and make the best purchase decisions as well as optimise their time spent at the show. The fact that this is a product focused show and there is an extensive variety of new products to decide from with competitive pricing, provides all of us a great opportunity to transact business in style and comfort. We not only get to meet new potential suppliers but also get to spend quality time with our preferred suppliers and view new collections at one’s own pace. With declining gold prices, I feel demand for gold & diamond jewellery will be mixed and hence I will look to buy design and price conscious jewellery. However, when the gold prices and Indian Rupee stabilise along with a strong government I expect good business in retail and exports for our industry. Ravee Tanwani Fusions, Mumbai S ignature is a very focused and a very business concentrated show with no frills. It is like the icing on the cake and has a very concentrated target audience, unlike IIJS with its vast size with A to Z of the needs of the industry. The opportunities to source new designs and products are galore at Signature with more than enough choice and range. Meeting new suppliers is one of the most pressing requirements for visitors. With the onset of the new reforms of the government I am very positive that the demand for jewellery will be upbeat and we as jewelers will have to be prepared for it. Prashanth Vummidi. It is a niche show with less stalls than the IIJS and more “design” oriented. As such, it is an ideal platform to source the right jewellery for the season ahead. And to meet potential new suppliers We will be looking at the latest trends. Design being the ethos of our company we are keen to source the latest designs. With Gold prices relatively low and diamond prices stable, the season ahead looks very promising. It is different from IIJS where the focus is on mass produced and generic items. This show is beneficial for the exhibitors who are able to achieve more sales and also for customers who derive more satisfaction. For us who deal in designer jewellery which is one of a kind and cannot be replicated, this show helps in ready pickups and exclusive orders. We expect a great show and, as usual, we will be there with a theme-based collection. Nawal Kishore Agrawal Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers, Jaipur } The show timing and visitor profile definitely makes Signature an excellent platform to showcase our offerings for the new season and source potential business opportunities. The focus is purely on jewellery and the visitors, though fewer in numbers as compared to IIJS, have a welldefined goal. Around this time, retailers plan their inventory for the upcoming Akshaya Tritiya festival and are on the lookout for styles, designs and trends that will dominate the market in 2015. The exclusivity and compact size of the show is highly conducive to quality working and interaction. So essentially, meetings are more fruitful with higher order generation instantaneously. The domestic market is currently a bit slow but we are hopeful of improvement in market sentiment by the next quarter. Going forward, Signature will no doubt give a thrust to the market. Considering the season and current customer preferences, we will be presenting a vast choice in lightweight necklaces. Collections will range from 1 ct to 6 ct diamond weight. In terms of design, the variants will be two-tone collection, faceted motif collection and the semi-choker bridal collection. We will be launching our newly developed faceted version of illusion plate setting, which delivers higher sparkle than the standard setting. Priyanshu Shah A’Star Jewellery, Mumbai } Signature is a great opportunity for us. It is the only show which is focused only on the retail trade. I have been participating for many years and every year the business improves. At Signature the buyers are relaxed and spend more time with each supplier, clarifying all aspects of their requirements. I think that Signature is held at the correct time – there is the proper gap between IIJS and this show. I see business improving in the following months. The prices of metals are down and sentiments are changing – there is more confidence. The emphasis on ‘Make in India’ will help us to grow and to expand our capabilities. Pramod Kumar Agrawal Derewala Jewellery Industries, Jaipur Studded Jewellery } It is very easy to do good business in Signature as only genuine buyers and sellers meet up on this platform. Every aspect related to jewellery can be found at this show as it is organised on international levels. Mumbai is one of the biggest business hubs for gold and diamond jewellery. And it offers very convenient connectivity with the international buyers. We expect that Signature 2015 will help my company gain higher recognition in the international market. This season we have come up with a new concept of traditional jhumkas and chandbalis and are also launching a new collection of fancy-cum-traditional designer jhumkas. Ramesh Kumar Agarwal the existing clients. Based on the current customer preferences, we will present 2-3 new collections, which will target a young audience. Piyush Sadhani Shashvat Jewels, Surat International } Signature is a great opportunity to meet the retailers and wholesalers without much crowd around, and actual business takes place. Discussing with the buyers at length without any interruption gives us good opportunity to know what they want and could be looking for in future. This results in business decisions and definite results. With a new government in place and the economy opening, India is the hottest market in the world for jewellery business. Buyers have become smart and intelligent. They are sure to look for good prices especially in jewellery that looks good and still affordable. Our Japanese nanotechnology has generated lots of interest in the market, specially DIAMONDLITE in G-H and J-K colour grades. We will be showing the new collection in J-K colour grade in 3.00ct to 20ct sizes. We are also launching our latest stone -- emeralds re-crystallized from natural Colombian emerald rough. Using Japanese nanotechnology, we have improved the quality of these emeralds by removing the inclusions. They are in sizes from 0.50ct to 30ct. The best part is the price, only $65 to $95/ct. Arun Thapar Apple Green Diamond Inc., Japan Lakshmi Jewellers, Hyderabad } Signature is a good opportunity to connect with new customers, especially at the start of the new financial year.
