President’s Message (cont.)
Tip of the Month from the President:
Take advantage of sales and lists for upgrades, personalizations, and sparkly mods for
your pony. I'm getting 2-4 discount emails each week now that we are getting closer to gift
giving season.
If you have some ideas or even an overall vision for your pony, research the what, where,
and how much from the various companies that offer parts. Think about putting some of
the items on your gift list. Make sure if a certain company has an email list, you register for
updates and sales. That way when they start sending out those discount offers you can
strategically drop hints that prices have dropped. Win-win all around.

Some helpful tips on “How to Plan a Cruise”
Pick a Place - It can be anywhere YOU want to
go or share with other Mustang Friends
Examples – A long drive, bowling, mini golf, a
restaurant, a museum, a park, pumpkin patch,
Christmas lights, scavenger hunt, progressive
dinner or an event like an apple squeeze. You
can pick anything or place.
Check Availability – Make sure they are open.
Make sure they know a group is coming, sometimes they will offer a discount. Check to see if
it is “kid friendly”, some members like to bring
their kids. This will make it easier to pick a date
for your cruise. Try to give a little notice so you
can share at a club meeting, get in the “Pony
News”, on the website and for members to get
on their calendar.
How are you getting there – Some places you
can just meet everyone there or plan a drive to
get there. If you plan a drive – pick your route;
please make sure you DRIVE the route. This
will help you find bathroom stops and see if
there are any changes you might want to make.
Are You Planning a “No Host Meal” – If you
are having a meal, please give the restaurant a
few days notices. This makes it easier for them
to have the staff scheduled. Check for “Kid
Friendly”.
Make a Flyer – Make sure you have the basic
info – Place, Meeting Location, Leave Time,
Date, Time, Cost, Contact Info, and What is
happening – i.e. if you plan on collecting items
for a charity, or “No Host Lunch”. If any part of
your event is NOT “Kid Friendly”, please state
that. Make sure the “Pony News” editor, FaceBook, Membership for an alert, and the Website
get a copy.
Extras – Printed Driving Directions or Navigation Devices are helpful. You can add Trivia
Questions, A Quiz, Prices, or Raffles for example. You can make dash plaques, in the past
members have used the regular dash plaques,
some have been creative with packages of hot
chocolate, or apples, or paper leaves, or paper
horses, even a compass. You can also collect
items for our charities – gloves, scarves, hats,
socks, and food items - anything.
Incentive – Piece County Mustang Club will
help with up to $100 to set up a cruise. You
must show receipts to be reimbursed. This is to
help with anything – dash plaques, raffles, shoe
rentals, printing. PCMC will not cover more
than $100, so watch what you spend. Some
members have been able to set up a cruise
without using the incentive, but it is available if
needed.
HELP – If you need any help, please ask. Most
of our members would be willing to go on a test
run or help with a route or give some guide
lines or feedback.
Please Note – You don’t need to follow these
tips, planning a cruise can be lots of fun and
very simple – it is inviting your friends to join
you on your adventure.

Mustang of the Month
Ron Lively
1989 Scarlet Red LX Hatchback, 2002 Black F-150 Lighting
Ron’s friend bought the 1989 Mustang brand
new and drove it until 2003 when she decided she needed a new car. Ron maintained
the car for her during this time. He told me
the car has been washed every Sunday since
it was first purchased.
She garaged the car for a while. Then Ron
told her she needed to sell it because it wasn’t doing anyone any good in the garage. She
told him she wouldn’t sell it but she would
give it to him. So in 2005, it became his.
When he took ownership it had 241,000 miles
on it and it now has 253,000 and the engine
runs like new. Because of all his care he interior, engine and paint are in great shape.
He wanted everything to be stock and went to
great effort to find stock parts when he needed them including finding aluminum wheels
(turbine wheels) that he had restored and polished at a place in Kent.
He told me this car was a perfect fit for his
goals. He wanted something he was passionate about and that would keep him busy
when he retired. Which it sounds like it has
done.
Ron talked about the joy of being part of the
Mustang Club with his son and grandson. He
loves going to shows and on cruises with
them. He also spoke of the many new friends
he meets at those events when people are
drawn into conversation because of their
common interest in cars , particularly Mustangs
His other Ford is the 2002 Lightening which
currently has 52,000 miles on it. It has a 5.4 L
engine with a supercharger. Ron says,
“When I feel I need an adrenaline rush, I go
somewhere that I can drive the truck.”
Ron had a stroke on April 16, 2014 which is
why he hasn’t been as active recently with
the club. He says he is 98% recovered and is
grateful for family that was nearby when it
happened. He can still drive and is looking
forward to joining the club activities once
again.
We wish him the best for the rest of his recovery and will save him a spot for upcoming
cruises.

October Events
Apple Squeeze Cruise
October 5th in Steilacoom
The group met at the 512 McDonalds in Tacoma. (We have our own parking spaces there.)
Monika put together a great cruise that started
with Dash Apples with attached numbers for a
raffle drawing.
We traveled some back roads to Steilacoom that
were gorgeous, full of fall color and fabulous marine fog that made for a beautiful and very autumn-like drive. The cruise ended at a great Autumn festival where you could squeeze apple cider, eat, listen to local musicians, stock-up on
early holiday gifts and people watch.
trip with a wonderful
lunch at a local restaurant. The food
was good and the
company and stories
even better.
Monika thanks for a great event!
I don’t know where the next cruise will take
us, but don’t miss it!
The group ended the
Columbia Crest Winery: Car Show—October 5 in Paterson
This looks like a fun day at a beautiful winery
on a beautiful day in beautiful Paterson, WA.


Wendy Minnieweather—3rd in her 2005



Pony News November 2014
A New Chapter for Paul
October 11 in DesMoines
Wow! What a great opportunity for our club to
provide a special day for Paul and the residents
of Stafford Health Care. We had 18 Mustangs
from the club that came and showed their shine
and cool engines for this “car guy.” This gentleman had a stroke and had once owned his own
Mustang. The staff supported his efforts and
others from the center as all enjoyed the day,
the beautiful cars and a great BBQ.
After the show, Paul rode with Tom Alpert in his
1968 GT 390 Red Fastback in a caravan of ponies to American’s Car Museum in Tacoma.
Paul selected Tom’s car for the Best in Show.
Paul and the club were treated to parking right
in front of the museum where all could see us.
Inside we had a great tour which included the
Masters of Mustang exhibit.
What a great day for all!
Museum Piece—ACM
So I have been a volunteer at America’s Car
Museum now for about 2.5 months. Most of the
time I have been a Greeter stationed in the entrance and front of the Main Floor (with the
Mustangs of course). Almost every visitor I
greet takes a little extra minute to look at the
cool 1966 Red Mustang Convertible in the center of the floor.
One visitor stopped and said, “this is the iconic
American ‘little red sports car’.” When I share
that with other visitors they nod their heads in
agreement and then take photos from every
angle. You can see the “longing” in their eyes
to seat themselves in the car, close their eyes
and imagine driving across America, perhaps
on Route 66.
It took a long time PCMC member to point out
to me the PCMC sticker in the window. WOW!
This gorgeous car belongs to our very own
Pam and Scott Leach,
members since 2012.
Way to go!

Friday Night Dinners
October 24 at Emerald Queen
Another fun get together for members of the
Club. This month’s event was at Emerald Queen
Casino in Fife.
I heard one delighted member exclaim, “Oh the
humanity!” when referring to the heap of food on
the plate returning to the table (his own plate).
We learned the unique eating habits of some
members when going to buffets. Begin and end
with dessert. Kind of a dessert sandwich. My kind
of thinking!
Conversations were fun, with lots of laughter and
stories galore. Don’t miss these great events!
Emergency Food Network
October 25 in Tacoma
Day of Caring
Here we found ourselves together again. Today
it was about helping others and we were joined
by a couple of members from another Mustang
Club and some good people who just wanted to
help.
Today we packaged corn. About 6400 pounds
of corn. Three hours of yellow, frozen corn! I
don’t know about others but I am not eating
corn for at least a week.
Truly an enjoyable 3 hours knowing that we
were helping provide for others.
As usual, lots of humor, a couple of flying kernels, and lunch afterwards that included dessert.
It is a good thing that we worked because the
food theme, especially dessert for the 2 days, is
not helping me get out of our Mustang or in for
that matter.
We all left talking about when we would be doing this again. That is working at EFN not eating
dessert.

Pony News November 2014
Saturday, December 6th will
be the annual Santa
Parades in Sumner
and Puyallup. PCMC
will be filing the entry
applications with the
Puyallup Main Street
Association and the
Sumner Downtown
Association to participate in both legs of
this year’s event.
We are going to be
limited to 8 to 10 cars per city so if more members want to
participate, we can either draw names for each town or
members can state which town they’d prefer. Cars will
need to be decorated with a minimum of 100 lights per 10
feet in length which can be easily accomplished with either the LED or Twinkle style of lights, an inverter plugged
into the AC outlet or cigarette lighter for a power source.
Some nylon zip ties, tape and binder clips. There are
also some cool suction cup plastic light holders made for
use on house windows and the like which will also work
along hood, trunk lid and doors. Look at Home Depot or
Lowes for these types of accessories. Also large fabric
ribbons and bows tied over and around each car’s, roof,
hood and trunk will meet the events decoration requirements. We should also have our antenna flags on while in
the parades.
The application process requires me to submit a copy of
each car’s driver’s license and proof of insurance card. I
need to fill out 2 entries one for each city, so if there is
overwhelming interest, as many as 16 to 20 cars will be
able to participate between the 2 towns. If we get more
than 20 we will do the old “draw names out of a hat” to
select the PCMC representatives at the October meeting.
By the way, this is only open to PCMC members. If you
belong to another Mustang club, your club would need to
submit their own entry application.
The Sumner parade begins at 2:30pm, so we stage at the
Sumner High School stadium parking about 1pm.
The Puyallup Parade begins at 4:00pm, and we head
straight there after completing the Sumner parade. They
will send me a map and directions for the staging area for
that parade later this year. Each leg lasts about an hour
depending on where we are in the lineup.
If you are interested in participating please contact Missy
Willert prior to the October general meeting @ [email protected] or 253-565-0592.
Lastly, if anyone wants to march in front of the cars we
could have the club banner carried by some that don’t
want to drive or are not drawn but still want to participate.

Sumner & Puyallup
Hometown
Well the paperwork has been submitted and if you’re like me, you can’t wait for Saturday, December 6th to arrive.
I just want to let everyone know that the cool little suction cups used last year are at
Lowes. They also have abundant supplies of LED lights in assorted strings of 50 & 100
lights in colors or all white. Remember to power these you will need an AC inverter to
plug into your car’s lighter or AC adapter outlet.
As soon as I receive the information from the Puyallup Downtown Association & the
Sumner Main Street Association with staging directions, I’ll get them out via email.
I’m also looking to see if anyone (2 to 4 people) would like to carry the club banner in
front of the cars in either or both parades. Anyone interested please call Missy at 253565-0592 or email at: [email protected]
If you want to come out to either parade and cheer on
your fellow PCMC members, the Sumner parade begins at 2:30pm and goes west down Main Street from
the high school to Kincaid Street.
In Puyallup the parade starts at 4:00pm and begins
at Main and Meridian and travels south on Meridian
just past the Pavilion (Pioneer Park) then turns right
for about one block.
Be sure to bring your camera to snap some pictures
of the festively adorned Ponies.
