Taking college credit classes in high school significantly increases the value of a Trinity Catholic education when considering tuition dollars saved in college. Trinity Catholic offers elective classes in Industrial Technology, Business, Media, Computer Science, Band and Choir, Art and Family & Consumer Science. These courses give students academic choices as they prepare for the future. !Trinity Catholic requires its students to earn 31 credits to graduate. That is more than all but one high school in the Archdiocese of St. Louis and as many as five more than other Catholic high schools in the St. Louis and Southern Illinois areas. !Trinity Catholic has a Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering Academic Team that annually finishes in the top five in the state competition. Trinity Catholic’s team won the state championship in 2012. !Trinity Catholic Industrial Technology students swept the top three spots at the State Bridge Building competition in 2013 and collected nine of the top 11 spots at the competition last spring. 2 Faith and Service 3 Faith Life Jesus Christ is the reason for Trinity Catholic High School. The Catholic faith is the foundation for everything at Trinity Catholic. All-school Masses and are held each month. There is morning and afternoon prayer each day, a four-year religion curriculum for all students and Campus Ministry and a Mission For Life Team. This reinforces the call Trinity Catholic students have to live the Gospel and share the message of Jesus through faith, love and service to others. Sacraments In addition to monthly all-school Mass, Trinity Catholic students are also afforded the opportunity to take part in the sacrament of Reconciliation during the Advent and Lenten seasons. Campus Ministry All of the Eucharistic celebrations are planned by the Campus Ministry Team of students led by Campus Minister Mrs. Michelle Johnson. The Campus Ministry Team, open to students of all grade levels, selects a theme for each celebration. They choose music, readings, prepare petitions and plan and implement special rites and symbols to enhance the experience of the community. A liturgical student choir and student musicians also participate. Students are invited to read, serve the Mass and take part in special rites. Retreats Senior students go on a two-day, overnight retreat in October where they are given the opportunity to reflect on and integrate what they have gained in faith formation. Freshmen, sophomore and junior students spend a Day of Recollection off campus with their classmates at various locations. These days of prayer are held in October as well. Discussion and reflection center on the areas of friendship, respect for others, self esteem, personal pride, the connectedness of all people and social values. 4 3 Mission for Life Team ! Essential to the growth of the Trinity Catholic faith community is putting faith into action. That is the purpose of the Mission For Life Team. Each year students of all grade levels are welcome to join Mrs. Michelle Johnson, who schedules various activities to assist the less fortunate throughout the St. Louis area. The students also participate in Pro-Life activities focusing on education about Life issues. Trinity Catholic students also participate in the ProLife March in Washington, D.C. in January. Other activities have included a candy collection drive at Halloween benefitting the St. Matthew’s Safe Streets Halloween Campaign, toy drives and Angel Baked cookie sales during the Christmas seasons to help needy families enjoy the holidays and a “penny war” to raise funds for the Trinity Catholic gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal which assists many organizations in the Archdiocese of St. Louis. ! Service Trinity Catholic students are called to serve and must complete 100 hours of Christian Service over their four years (or 25 hours per year for each year enrolled). This graduation requirement reinforces the teachings of Jesus in terms of giving to others. While the community at large benefits, the students themselves also benefit by learning about their own talents and treasures and realizing the importance of thinking of others first. Up to 50 Christian Service hours may be performed at Trinity Catholic events while the other half of the hours must be served in the larger community. When performing Christian Service the students must have an evaluation and signed certification from a supervisor of the project and must also provide a personal reflection about the benefits of their service. It is up to each student to arrange his or her Christian Service hours but the school provides suggestions and opportunities if the student needs them. Religion teacher Mr. Pat Whalen documents the hours and tabulates the total for each student. Religion Curriculum Trinity Catholic students take eight semester classes of religion instruction. Subject matters include Scripture, moral problems, life choices, correct decision-making, the history of the Catholic Church and Sacraments among others. Students of all faiths are required to participate in the religion curriculum as well as all masses, prayer services and retreats. The overall goal is to teach Catholicism and the applications of those teachings to everyday life. Trinity Catholic students are called to develop a personal prayer style and a healthy relationship with God and those around them. 5 3 Academic Excellence 6 Academics The college-preparatory curriculum at Trinity Catholic High School prepares students for post-secondary education and meets a wide range of student abilities, interests and career goals. Mrs. Beth Lappe is available to students throughout the day and during the daily 40-minute Academic Lab. ! Elective course offerings in Family and Consumer Science and Industrial Technology (computerized Mechanical Drawing, Drafting and Engineering) set Trinity Catholic apart from many other Catholic schools. Semester grades are a combination of two quarter grades and a semester exam grade. Percentages are used to compute semester averages. Credits are earned when a passing grade is achieved for each course (semester course - .5 credit/full-year course - 1 credit). ! Grades are based on a four-point system. The grade points are: A=4; B=3; C=2; D=1; F=0. Courses offered at college level and for college credit (ACC, AP, ACP) are given an honors point (1.0) for a passing grade. Grade points for these weighted classes are A=5; B=4; C=3; D=2; F=0. ! ! A student's class rank is based solely upon the grade point average for all semesters from the beginning of ninth grade. The grade point average (GPA) is determined by dividing the grade points earned by the number of credits attempted within a grading period. 8 3 Honor Roll/Graduation Honors The Honor Roll is a means of recognizing a student’s academic achievement each quarter. Students with a GPA of 3.250 or higher (weighted) are on the honor roll. Students may not have an academic grade of D+, D, D- or F in the current quarter. Last year all students used an iPad Mini in the classroom and the results were overwhelmingly positive. ! The new devices further enhanced the Trinity Catholic commitment to remain state of the art in the area of technology and exposed the students to 21st century learning. A true 21st century environment is digital and our students are living in that environment. Our goal is to ensure we provide both teaching and learning experiences that fully engage our students and give them the opportunity to extend their classrooms beyond pages of books and walls of a school building. Trinity Catholic students not only have the opportunity to use the iPad Mini in the classroom setting, they have full access to the device in the evenings and weekends and even throughout the summer months. ! A new addition to the devices this year is eBackpack which will be a tremendous tool for both teachers and students. Among other features, eBackpack helps students organize their work with electronic files for each class and will serve as a tool for teachers and students to share work electronically. ! In order to maintain educational control, Trinity Catholic purchases the iPad Minis and families lease the devices over a four-year period. The iPad Mini fee is $160 per year for three years. The fourth year there is a $25 buyout in order to keep the device after graduation. ! The iPad Mini Fee and the Registration Fee for the following school year must be paid each spring in order for the students to keep the iPad Mini over the summer. 14 Athletics/Activities 15 Athletic Programs Athletic programs at Trinity are an important extension of the classroom. Families must complete the FACTS application and mail it directly to FACTS (not Trinity) by March 15, 2015. Packets will be available when the $200 registration fee is paid. You will be applying for the following programs: Catholic Families Tuition Assistance, Archdiocesan Grant-In-Aid, Parish Employee Endowment Funds and also Trinity funds. Only families completing the FACTS packet will be considered for financial aid. * * * Fundraising Fee - Each Trinity Catholic family is required to pay a $300 Fundraising Fee in August that covers all fundraising efforts for the school year. This fee eliminates the need for all-school fundraisers such as pizza or candy sales, raffles, etc. When the fee is paid each family is given 80 raffle tickets for the Trinity Treasures Dinner Auction raffle in October. Families may then sell the tickets and keep the money raised from the sale of the tickets. If a family sells all 80 tickets they will make $400 total. Families may also opt to put their name on the tickets and enter the tickets in the drawing. The drawing is done at the dinner auction each October. ! The Fundraising Fee is $300 per family not $300 per student. 20 ! President - Sr. Karl Mary Winkelmann, S.S.N.D."
