KEY TEXTS
Over this half term our key focus will be a mastery of writing through
looking at the books: The Time Machine by H.G. Wells and A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Through these units we will be looking
at non-chronological reports and stories set in Victorian Times.
HOME LEARNING
Yet again we have been really impressed with the quality of
home learning projects this half term. We were delighted to
see so much effort put in by everyone who created a time
machine.
MATHEMATICS
We will be exploring a range of mathematic principles over this half term
including properties of shape, measurements and using / applying data.
There will be a big focus on putting all
of the work children undertake in class
into realistic application and trying to
develop the children’s understanding
of how the mathematics they learn in
the classroom can be applied into
the real world.
SCIENCE
READING
Our learning in Science
this half term will provide
the children with an opportunity to pair their research and presentation
skills. We will be finding
out about Earth, Space
and Light and presenting our findings in creative ways.
SPELLING
This half term we will be
continuing to practice our
spellings daily and testing
ourselves regularly. Everyone has been putting in a
great deal of effort and
showing a superb amount
of improvement.
Reading is very important to us at GLPS and
this Half Term we will be continuing our strong
start of regular reading in Year Six. Reading will happen everyday, both in guided groups and independently.
Our children will be encouraged to share books they have
enjoyed with each other, in
hopes of further developing their
love of reading. Reading is not an
additional activity, but a vitally important part of everyday life in school.
Reading books and records have gone
home, so please carry on with your children’s reading at home. Please come
and talk to Mr Baker or Mr Dixon if you
have any questions or suggestions.
COMPUTING
This year our computing will be
focused around creating a mobile
phone application. This will teach
the children skills in market rePE
