“Simon, son of John, do you love me?” “Lord, you
know everything; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep.” —John 21:17b
St. Ambrose Church shows our love for God by caring for those in need.
It has been a difficult time for the St. Louis region. First responders and the people of
Ferguson are having an especially hard time. We have responded with prayers for peace,
justice and healing. Now, let’s “feed” those most in need.
St. Ambrose Food Drive:
Weekend Masses
Nov. 9 and 16
Leave food items at the St. Joseph Altar
(in front of church near sacristy).
Monetary donations and gift cards can be placed in
the collection basket. Please put these in an
envelope marked “Food Drive”.
Social Justice Committee volunteers will
deliver donations to these organizations:
St. Louis Police Wives
Association
Ferguson Food Pantries:
This organization works to provide ongoing
support to local police officers during times of
crisis. When police command posts are
activated, officers are placed on mandatory
12-hour shifts with little time off. This group
has been serving 600 meals a day to officers
around the clock, seven days a week, since
mid-August. They are requesting:
-individually wrapped snack items
-energy drinks
-Visa cards
-monetary donations
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Catholic Church
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
Both churches are located in Ferguson
and provide food to residents in need.
They are requesting non-perishable
food items of all kinds.
Cash donations also appreciated.
Thank you!
Reflections on the Readings:
THE TEMPLE AND WORSHIP
Today’s Readings
First Reading — I saw water flowing out of the
temple; wherever the river flows, every living
creature shall live (Ezekiel 47:1-2, 8-9, 12).
Psalm — The waters of the river gladden the city of
God, the holy dwelling of the Most High (Psalm 46).
Second Reading — Do you not know that you are
the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells
in you? (1 Corinthians 3:9c-11, 16-17).
In all of today’s readings, the temple is prominently
mentioned. Ezekiel speaks of streams of living
water flowing out from the temple, watering the
desert, bringing life to all living things, offering
fresh healing to God’s people. Paul reminds the
Corinthians that their faith rests upon the firmest of
foundations, Christ himself. More than that, Paul
reveals that those who follow Christ are
themselves temples, temples of the Holy Spirit;
that is, God dwells not only with them, but in them.
or the Jews of Jesus’ time, the temple had come to
be identified with the presence of God and the only
place where authentic worship of God took place.
Jesus had a different perception. Jesus identified
himself not with the temple, but as the temple. In
so doing, Jesus indicated a dramatic shift in what it
means to worship God, to be in God’s presence.
No longer was a place to be the focus of prayer.
Instead, a person, the person of Jesus Christ,
becomes the center of our worship.
Gospel — Destroy this temple and in three days I
will raise it up (John 2:13-22).

“The Color Purple”
Book discussion Thurs., Jan 15
6:30 pm Church Hall
The Color Purple is a 1982 novel by American author Alice Walker which won the Pulitzer Prize
and the National Book Award. The Color Purple is the story of two sisters—one a
missionary to Africa and the other a child wife living in the South—who remain loyal to one
another across time, distance, and silence. Beautifully imagined and deeply compassionate, this
classic of American literature is rich with passion, pain, inspiration, and an indomitable love of life.

Dismantling Racism
Workshop
Sunday, Nov. 16
2-4 pm
St. Ambrose Church Hall
racism
Pronunciation: /ˈrāˌsizəm
NOUN
1The
belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race,
especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
All of us -- people of color and white people alike -- are damaged by the debilitating
effects of racism. Racism permeates the attitudes and behavior of individuals, but
even more seriously, it permeates public systems, institutions, and culture. This
workshop begins by taking an honest look at racism. We will focus on what each of
us can do to move toward an end to racism. Jesus had strong words to say about
oppression and our treatment of the marginalized. Come learn how you
can help heal the sin of racism in our community.
Workshop sponsored by

No fee to attend.
