Online PE: Are You Kidding? NO!
Gateway 2
Kathy Mulligan, Mt. Mansfield Union High School
MMU began offering online PE this year as an alternative to traditional classes. We were aware of
students paying and taking online classes that, in our opinion, had a very low standard of achievement
and accountability. We created an online class called ―Personal Motivation‖ using our Learning
Management System called Schoology to deliver the course. We introduced the use of Fitbits for
monitoring the ―very active‖ levels of activity. After filtering out students who felt it was an easy PE
credit, this course meets the needs of students that typically do not thrive in a group fitness/activity
setting or have extremely full academic schedules. Secondary (High School Only)

pushed him down the street. Since then, he has worked in bike shops while he was going to
school for my teacher's certification. Jim has participated in numerous centuries (100 mile
