33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME • NOVEMBER 16, 2014

33RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME • NOVEMBER 16, 2014
As members of St. Dominic Catholic Parish, we commit ourselves
“To Seek Christ, Know Christ, and Become Christ,
Each One for the Sake of All.”
18255 WEST CAPITOL DRIVE • BROOKFIELD, WI 53045
Message from Our Pastor
Next weekend, we will conclude this
Liturgical year with the Feast of Our
Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe.
For fifty-two weekends, we will have
gathered for worship out of a sense of
obligation to our Baptismal
commitment; but hopefully, with an
even deeper desire to worship God in a
pleasing, reverent way, as taught by
Jesus, when at the Last Supper he said:
“Do this in memory of me…”.
I hope that your faith in Jesus Christ
has grown over this Liturgical year and
that our prayer together has enriched
your faith lives.
Both Father Brad and I are very
grateful for the many wonderful
experiences of prayer that we’ve had
the opportunity to share with you. We
are blessed with a parish family that
prays well together.
Let’s pray for the grace to carry this
spirit of good prayer into the upcoming
Liturgical Year, which begins with the
Advent season that we will initiate on
the weekend of November 29/30! It is
interesting to note that we will also
begin our fourth year of using the Third
Edition of the New Roman Missal!
Looking back, I think the process of
getting accustomed to the new wording
of some prayers such as, “And with
your spirit”, has gone very well. Once
again, the good people of St. Dominic
Catholic Parish have risen to the
occasion with open minds and hearts.
Together, we make good things happen
in our prayer and worship!
~Father David H. Reith
We joyfully celebrate the
Confirmation of
Stephanie Julie Grassel!

The Christmas Clearing Council of
Waukesha County has
served this community
and its children for 65
years. The CCC helps
struggling families, and
makes sure that
children are not forgotten during the
Christmas season. We need your
help! With another anticipated
brutally cold winter, we need to
ensure that every child has a warm,
waterproof pair of mittens or
gloves. Throughout the month of
November, collection barrels will be
located in both narthexes. Please be
generous, and pick up a couple of
pairs of waterproof mittens and
gloves when you’re out
shopping. Hats are most welcome as
well.
Thank you in advance for warming
the hearts and hands of children in
Waukesha County!
Smiles For Miles
We are off to a great start! Please continue to drop off
your shoeboxes for Smiles for Miles through December
10. Remember, as you are filling your boxes this year,
the children of St. Michael need warm socks, hats and
mittens, as well as school supplies. We are also
collecting gently used boots.
Now, let’s have some fun filling those shoeboxes!

The NET Team Is Coming Soon—Host Homes Are Needed
Please bring your donations to the

The Giving Tree
During the holiday season, we are
continually reminded of the many
reasons we
have to be
thankful. It
is also a
time to
think of
those in
need. We
will again
be using
the Giving
Tree as a
way to
share our
blessings with others. Choose a tag,
buy and wrap a gift (note: gifts for the
Guest House need not be wrapped),
and bring it to Mass on the weekend
of December 13 and 14, with the
colored tag attached. We will ask our

Seeking Your Help
We are so very fortunate at St. Dominic to have such a wonderful facility to
host so many opportunities to connect people to
Jesus Christ through us; his disciples. These
facilities are shared by so many people throughout
the entire day that it takes every person to help
take care of them.
The parish and school Safety and Security
committee have been working hard to develop
plans to ensure that the facilities stay safe and that
those who use this space are safe at all times. This
requires that those individuals that have keys to the
facilities use them with utmost care and responsibility. At no time should
individuals be entering our buildings without first seeking approval from the
pastoral staff even if they do have a key. We are concerned for the welfare of all
of our parishioners, employees and guests. Please report any and all instances
of key abuse to a member of the pastoral staff. Thank you.

for each box include: 1 box of mashed potatoes; 1 bag of stuffing; 1 box of cake
mix; 1 can of frosting; 2 boxes of pudding or Jell-O; 2 boxes of cornbread mix; 4
cans of low sodium corn; 2 cans of cranberry sauce; 1 32 oz. can of sweet

Do You Suffer From Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease is a digestive condition triggered by
consumption of the protein gluten, which is found in bread,
pasta, cookies, pizza crust and many other foods
containing wheat, barley or rye. Gluten is also present in
our communion hosts.
As Celiac disease becomes more prevalent, the Catholic
Church has taken steps to address the needs of those who
cannot consume the consecrated hosts. We have a process
in place to address those needs. If Celiac disease or another
condition make it impossible to receive the customary
host, please contact the office in the Parish Center.

A “SPECIAL” CHRISTMAS PROJECT
Once again we are offering you an opportunity to be a part of a “Special
Christmas letter Project” for those in the Marines that are sick and wounded and
will be spending their Christmas in the Military hospital.
The sponsor of this project, Marine Moms Online.
They put together patriotic holiday stockings for these Marines. They are filled
with items that have been donated from various sources. The recruits receive phone
cards, envelopes, stamps, note pads, and pens. But the key gift in this stocking is a
bundle of letters that we collect from people of all ages all over the country.
Last year each recruit had 12 letters in their stocking. That is over 8000
letters!
Here’s how YOU CAN BE INVOLVED . . .
THE PROJECT:
We are COLLECTING letters and/or drawings from children, teens , adults - all ages.
The subject can be patriotic, holiday wishes, or
even a simple thank you for serving
our county.
Following are simple guidelines for the letters:
- Notes, letter, pictures and cards accepted
No bigger than 8x10 letter size
- Salutation should be "Dear Recruit"
- DO NOT put letters in an Envelope - we will send
them in one package (or you can send them yourself.
- DO NOT use GLITTER
- NO personal return addresses.
- If church and school - You can mark the back of each
note with a classroom sticker or stamp with the school
address, if they desire possible responses from recruits.
2 WAYS TO GET THESE TO THE SOLIDERS:
1. You can drop them at the parish office to the attention of:
Debbie Olla MUST BE TURNED IN BY NOVEMBER 24th if not then do #2
2. Mail them on your own (put all the ones you have in one package) by December 2014 to the
following address:

We are constantly asked questions and answer them in a variety of ways. Sometimes we give an immediate
answer, sometimes we ponder an answer before responding to a question, and then there are times when
questions are posed and we can’t come up with a good answer.
Our Minga group wanted to take this opportunity to share our gratitude for all of your support with our mission
trip to The Working Boys Center – A Family of Families, in Quito, Ecuador, which took place October 18-26,
2014. Through financial donations, we were able to play key roles in putting the roof structure on a house for a
very deserving, very loving, very humble family. For those donations, we graciously thank you for giving so
selflessly to others in need. Your prayers helped to give us strength and a clearer vision of how we were being
called to serve and share the love of Jesus, with beautiful people a mere 3,000 miles away.
Each evening, our Minga group gathered to reflect on the day and participated in faith sharing. It became
obvious that we were not only serving others as a group, but we were also growing as individuals. We were
ambassadors for Christ in Ecuador, and it became apparent that we were being called to something even
greater. Now, we’re making it our mission to share with you the importance of getting involved, perhaps
stepping out of your comfort zone, and giving gratitude for the important blessings in your life. The families in
Ecuador reinforced the importance of quality time with people, and challenged each one of us to come home
and live our faith out loud.
Does The Working Boys Center—A Family of Families, in Quito, Ecuador need you? Absolutely. Under the
leadership of Padre and the Madres, support is needed through financial contributions and through prayer.
Your physical presence is also necessary to make a positive, lasting impression on the families who work with the
Center, to better their lives and become influential, spiritually-sound members of society.
As a Minga group, we have all, in some form or another, reevaluated our priorities in life and have made strides
to incorporate what we experienced in Quito, into our daily routines. We came home with a new-found
gratitude for not only a firm foundation in faith, but for the people and the abundance of blessings that have
been placed in our lives. We give heartfelt thanks to the St. Dominic Catholic Parish community, for your
support of us, on this spiritual journey.
We leave you with only one question and challenge you to answer honestly. The people of Quito demonstrated
to us that, oftentimes, less is more and we need to embrace our faith and rediscover what is truly important in
life. What if you woke up today with only the things that you thanked God for yesterday?
