The Mixing Bowl - Home Baking Newsletter Nov-Feb 2015 Hello everyone, Fraisier (Fraise = strawberry in French) cake is a French classic dessert cake, perfect for showing off. Strawberry lined, with layers of sponge, alcohol/sugar syrup and a sweet, creamy filling, delicious but also so very pretty. I will also use my microwave to make the most scrumptious Strawberry jam, thick glossy and intensely flavoured, the microwave method means there is no chance of burning the jam, just great. Christmas is rushing towards us in the annoying way it usually does, so it is definitely time to get into some Christmas baking. We have plentiful supplies of lovely glacé fruit, our very popular fruit mince and loads of sweet, dried fruit and nuts to make all your Christmas cakes and puddings. We are also well stocked with small cake tins, Christmas tree tins and ceramic or plastic pudding bowls. A small Christmas cake or a few mini puddings, can make the perfect gift for loads of people. We should have had them baked and stored by now, the old deadline was always Cup Day, but if you (like me) haven’t had time yet, let’s not dawdle. We will do a class on Stollen, the German sweet loaf studded with rum-soaked fruit and filled with marzipan, as well as Christmas cakes and puddings. There is enough time for them to “mature” before Christmas Day, I know lots of shortcuts to make it easy, but mostly delicious. We also have Pandoro and Panettone, chocolate Fudge, Shortbreads, Chocolate houses, Gingerbread, Mint leaf Christmas trees and --- Due to POPULAR DEMAND ---- we have the return of our GADGET DAY (week). A class session of fun and demos – Jelly slice with a Christmas slant, gadgets, bargains and fun, it’s really just a breakup party!!!. Bargains and discounts are available the whole week, but for Gold Club Members ONLY. December also means planning for our Christmas holidays, both shops will be open on Sat 20th December, but we will then close for our holidays and be back on Tuesday 20th Jan 2015. Also due to some requests, (and because we are doing Gingerbread/Chocolate Houses, we have stocked up on the lollies that are great for decorating. Our popular mint leaves, green and red “smarties” beads, freckles and raspberries and Curly Wurly bars – they make the best fences for your gingerbread houses. We also have stocks of new silicone moulds for Houses and Trees that can be used to bake Shortbread, or gingerbread shapes to make 3D houses and trees, or use as moulds for chocolate, ice or toffee.
