AUDITIONS
On the following page is a complete listing of the School of Dance auditions across the country and oncampus for the 2015 Summer Dance Intensives.
WE WILL NOT AUDITION FOR THE COMMERCIAL DANCE INTENSIVE AT ANY ON-SITE
AUDITION. For information about how to audition for the Commercial Dance Intensive, please email
[email protected] .
If you wish to be considered for admission to the Classical Ballet Concentration and/or the Comprehensive
Dance Concentration, you must audition either in person on one of the following dates, or submit a video
audition on DVD or emailed link (instructions below) to be received no later than Friday, March 27th, 2015.
Should inclement weather prohibit travel, UNCSA reserves the right to cancel and will reschedule
auditions. To determine if an audition has been cancelled, please check our website - www.uncsa.edu.
IMPORTANT:
Results of all auditions will be sent via email. Please make sure that we have your valid, legible email
address, and that your computer will accept UNCSA emails. If you do not hear from us within 2 weeks of
your audition, please contact Sean Sullivan to inquire about the results* of your audition at:

*Due to high volume of audition participation, individual feedback from auditions cannot be given.
Recommended Audition Attire: For ladies: black leotard with pink convertible tights so that bare feet can
be worn for the contemporary portion of the audition, pink ballet shoes, and pink pointe shoes for those
wanting to be considered for the Classical Ballet Intensive. For men: dance belt, black convertible tights so
that bare feet can be worn for the contemporary portion of the audition, white T-shirt tucked in, black ballet
shoes.
Audition fee of $20 (cash or check only) due at the time of the audition (Not required for video
submissions). All audition forms will be filled out at the live audition. Form for video submissions below.

DVDs must be compatible with United States equipment.
Applicants must wear practice clothes.
Applicants must be 12 years old by June 25, 2015.
All applicants must include a short technical demonstration at the barre or center and include the following
steps:
•
Plié in 1st and 2nd positions, tendu/dégagé (straight and with plié from fifth), rond de jambe, passé
développé (front, side, and back), grand battement, and a balance on one leg. Movements should be short, but
should demonstrate clarity of form and all together should not exceed five minutes.
•
In addition, three phrases that travel across the floor: one demonstrating triplets (down, up, up; down up,
up; etc); one demonstrating chaine and pique turns; and one demonstrating grand jeté.
Female applicants interested in taking the Classical Ballet Intensive, or who are interested in taking pointe
classes within the Comprehensive Dance Intensive must also demonstrate en pointe the following steps:
•
Sous sus, echappé, passé, bouree, single pirouettes, and pique turns.

About UNCSA Summer Dance Intensives





2 Focus Areas:
o Classical Ballet Intensive, in addition to other curriculum: daily pointe classes, women’s
and men’s variations classes, pas de deux classes, character classes and classical repertory
performed;
o Comprehensive Dance Intensive, in addition to other curriculum: pointe class {by
audition}, contemporary partnering, composition, and contemporary repertory performed.
Curriculum also includes
o Daily Ballet and Contemporary Technique Classes
o Pilates, Yoga, Acting, Somatics
o Hip-Hop/Jazz
o Music for Dancers
Fully produced culminating performance at The Stephen’s Center in downtown Winston-Salem.

Repertory Rehearsals
All dancers will be at least 1 rep piece, and will have an opportunity to
audition for a Hip-Hop or Jazz rep piece. All dances will be performed on July
25 at the Gerald Freedman Theatre on campus.
Comprehensive Dance Concentration will also have Phrasework twice a week
during this time.
