A House to Dwell In When King David decides to build a temple to house the Ark of the Covenant, the Lord says to him: “Should you build me a house to dwell in?” It’s a rhetorical question. How is possible that a mere mortal – even a great king like David – could create a fitting dwelling place for God? No matter how splendid David’s plans are, his building project could never match the splendor of the One who made the heavens and the earth. Instead of David building a house for God, the Lord will ensure that David’s “house” – his dynasty – “shall endure forever.” The promise of that everlasting kingdom is fulfilled in Jesus, born of “a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David.” But more than establishing David’s kingdom forever, in Jesus God has finally found a worthy house to dwell in: the sinless Virgin Mary. She becomes the Ark of the New Covenant, a living Tabernacle of God’s Presence on earth. God comes to dwell, not in a building made of wood and stone, but in the womb of a mother. And he does so in order that he might come to dwell in us! The Lord wants to make his home in you and me – and in every heart that is open to receive him. Have we taken time to get the house of our heart in order this Advent? Have you and I made room for the Lord? There is still time to do so … Christmas is a few days off. May the Lord find his home in us, coming to dwell with us at Christmas and throughout the New Year! Christmas blessings, Father Ed Need Greeters for the Christmas Masses @ St. Charles The parish office will be closed on December 24, 2014 @ Noon & December 25 & 26 . We wrapped up our time with our UW-Eau Claire students and prepared our Christmas program—we hope you were able to attend. We hope you enjoyed the performance as much as we enjoyed performing for you! We have added ornaments to the Jesse Tree displayed in the front of church. The Jesse Tree is really an Advent Tree helping us to anticipate the coming of Christmas. The fifth and sixth grades have been studying the hidden Christian meaning of behind the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” Ask a student if you want to know more! In Religion, the fifth commandment has been a topic of discussion. Students learned that “You shall not kill” involves so much more than causing physical harm to others. In math, the fifth grade is learning how to multiply decimals while the sixth grade is working with ratios, rates, and percents. Science time finds the students learning about plant and animal reproduction. The Ancient Egyptian and Ancient Roman Empires are being studied in social studies class. The students have drawn time lines showing the major events of the 2 different empires. They have also used the iPads to take a virtual field trip to the Pont du Gard aqueduct in France. We wish you all a happy end to your Advent season and a very Merry Christmas. May God bestow his blessings on you the reminder of 2014 and throughout 2015. How can we hold back saying Merry Christmas until Christmas Eve? The students were so filled with excitement during their programs. They were singing joyful songs on Christ’s journey to be with us in the flesh. Hugs and kisses from parents and grandparents were given readily. How can we hold those feelings to last through the Christmas season, December 25th to January 11th? Let us make time to reflect each morning during these final days of Advent to be a servant to others, practice forgiveness, bring the love of Christ to others and help those in need. Make the real Christmas season be wonderful for everyone.
