Adaptive Swim Lessons (Lessons for children with disabilities) Small group swim lessons that adapt the aquatic environment to meet the needs of the children. Youngsters with special needs (diagnoses may include autism, cerebral palsy, quadriplegia, or developmental delays) can all benefit from our aquatics program. The goals of the Adaptive Aquatics program are to teach water safety, functional and recreational swimming skills. Any child can learn to be independent in the water (always with supervision, of course) with or without a flotation device. This program is for children of all ages to learn to swim to the best of his or her ability. Each child has individual goals designed to adapt to the needs of the child. The benefits of this program can be as small as getting a child to put their face in the water, to as big as having them ready for total independence in the water. All instructors are Red Cross WSI certified. An adult is required to go in the water with the student. ( 1 instructor per 5 students) Students must be toliet trained. Deep Water Fun & Fitness Aqua Traumatic Brain Injury/Fibromyalgia Give your hips, knees, and feet a break from land exercise by enjoying a full body resistance workout in our warm pool! If you are comfortable in ten feet of water then this fitness program is for you! Water walking floatation belts are available. BCC offers aquatic exercise as an alternative rehabilitation option. Aqua TBI/Fibromyalgia takes advantage of the properties of water to provide a unique exercise environment for patrons experiencing pain, weakness, muscle spasms, limited range of motion, decreased strength and limited weight bearing. Aquatic exercise is frequently used in conjunction with traditional land-based physical therapy programs. Prerequisites: Be 16 years of age on or before the last day of the course, possess a Fundamentals of Instructor Training certificate issued within the last year or possess a current national Health and Safety Instructor Authorization certificate and successfully complete the pre-course session of water safety and Level 4 swimming skills test.
