PASTOR’S COLUMN
The Sunday between Christmas and New Year’s Day is
observed as the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus,
Mary and Joseph. The Feast reminds us that Jesus lived
a real human life among real people of flesh and blood.
The Son of God became the obedient son of a foster father and a mother who deeply loved him and brought him
to maturity in the family setting. St. John Paul II reflected on the importance of the family: “The history of mankind, the history of salvation, passes by way of the family… The family is placed at the center of the great struggle between good and evil, between life and death, between love and all that is opposed to love. To the family
is entrusted the task of striving, first and foremost, to unleash the forces of good, the source of which is found in
Christ the Redeemer of man. Every family unit needs to
make these forces their own so that the family will be
strong with the strength of God.” My prayer and hope for
all of the families that make up Queen of All Saints Parish
is for an abiding awareness of Jesus’ presence in all aspects of life at the parish throughout 2015. May we see
Christ in each member of the parish and show his presence to others by your words and actions….. On behalf of
Father Brian Fallon, Deacon Rich Schellhase, Deacon
Joe Wingbermuehle, Deacon Jeremy Hans and all of
our pastoral ministers and employees, may you have a
blessed and Happy New Year!
Monsignor Joseph Simon
PARISH OFFICE CLOSED
Due to the New Year’s holiday, the parish office will be
closed on Thursday, January 1.
YEAR END GIFT FOR THE PARISH
A Year-End Gift solicitation was sent to every home in
the parish earlier this month. Donors in a position to
make a gift to the parish will enable Queen of All Saints
to replenish its reserves which were depleted by the mold
remediation process earlier this fall. A large portion of
the $465,000 that was spent on the emergency was taken
from the parish reserves. Our goal is to restore this fund
to a level that will provide some 4 to 6 months cash flow
for unplanned expenses. The Finance Council and the
priests are sensitive to those families who may be struggling financially and unable to contribute to the parish
and we pray for a better year in 2015. At the same time
we know that there are other families who might benefit
from this opportunity to donate a year-end gift to QAS.
All donations must be received at the parish office by
December 31 to qualify as a 2014 contribution on your
2014 income tax form.

NEW LED CHURCH SIGN INSTALLED
A new church sign has been installed by Warren Sign Co.
of Arnold along Christopher Rd. in front of the church.
The LED-equipped sign will provide continuous information pertaining to parish worship and life at Queen of
All Saints. The sign including all installation costs
were a gift of an anonymous donor. The parish is most
appreciative of this generous gift. Because of St. Louis
County zoning laws, the Respect Life sign was relocated
to the corner of Limbach Hall (site of the old sign). The
same zoning laws required us to remove the brickencased church sign but the law did allow us to install an
artistic rendering of the mosaic of “Mary with the
Christ Child” which decorates the sanctuary wall in the
church….. We are grateful to Betty Bast, affectionately
known as the “sign lady”, who for many years changed
the messages on the old sign and kept everyone in the
know about events at QAS. The new sign will be controlled by the office staff via their computers. It should
be up and running soon.
2015 CATHOLIC CALENDARS AVAILABLE
The 2015 Religious Art Calendars are available at the
church doors. We are grateful to Kutis Funeral Home for
providing parish calendars again this year.
PARISH RECEIVED ACA GRANT FOR MOLD
Archbishop Robert Carlson has approved a request for a
parish emergency grant from the Annual Catholic Appeal for $25,000 for Queen of All Saints Parish. Such
grants are given to parishes which request financial assistance due to an emergency such as the mold remediation
expense the parish incurred this past summer. Queen of
All Saints is grateful to the Archbishop and the ACA for
this grant. We encourage all parishioners to show their
appreciation during the next appeal which takes place
next spring.

“...as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must forgive.”
Colossians 3:13
Forgiveness - one of the hardest things for people to do. It’s
amazing how long we can hold a grudge or be angry with
someone. As we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family, take
this opportunity to give the gift of forgiveness to someone maybe someone in your family, maybe a friend, maybe a coworker or neighbor or, maybe yourself. Pick up the phone
or text someone right now.

SUPPORT QUEEN OF ALL SAINTS SCHOOL BY
DONATING TO THE“TUITION ASSISTANCE FUND”
A monthly contribution to the Tuition Assistance Fund will
assist QAS in providing $35,956 in tuition grants to 16 school
families that were awarded tuition assistance for 2014-15.
Your donation provides financial assistance to those families
who have qualified for tuition assistance. Are you someone
looking for a way to assist a school family with their tuition? It’s a win-win decision, both for families desiring Catholic education for their children but facing difficulties paying for
tuition, and for donors who can assist these families through
tax-deductible contributions to the Tuition Assistance Fund
(the pink envelope in the monthly packet or through Faith Direct at www.faithdirect.net. The parish code for enrolling in
Faith Direct is MO86).

EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR
REMEDIATION COVERAGE AND HVAC SYSTEMS
IN SCHOOL AND LIMBACH HALL
Queen of All Saints Parish is asking all parishioners and
friends of the parish for contributions to cover the cost of
remediating the school and church hall this past summer,
and to cover the cost of repairs to or replacement of the
HVAC systems in the school and Limbach Hall.
The
Finance Council is asking each family to make a pledge
payable over the next 9 months for these expenses in addition to ordinary monthly or weekly contributions. Beginning in December a “Mold Remediation Appeal”
envelope will be in the monthly envelope packet. Donations may also be made through Faith Direct (enroll at
the parish office or online at Faith Direct; the QAS parish code is MO86). The parish expended $465,000 for
remediation repairs in the school and the church hall of
which $330,000 has already been paid and three final
payments totaling $135,000 are due by the end of December. The repair or replacement of HVAC systems is
unknown at this time. Once an estimate is determined, it
will be announced. We appreciate your assistance in
covering these extraordinary expenses which obviously
were not known at the time the budget was prepared for
this year.

UPDATE MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Does our Church database have YOUR family membership
record correct?
Here is your chance to update YOUR record for our annual
Guide Book & Directory (if you haven’t already done so).
It is time for us to update our database with any changes,
additions, deletions that may have occurred in YOUR family over the past year.
Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved?
Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children
still at home and are they all included in your membership
record? Do you want to be included in the Parish Directory?
If you have not already informed the Parish Office about
changes to your record, please let us know now so that the
information in the Guide Book & Directory is correct.
In order to help us all know more about our Parish and to
have an annually updated Parish Directory, we have contracted once again with Guide Book Publishing to produce
a “Guide Book and Directory.” The book will be direct
mailed to every household registered in our parish and is
being provided at no cost to Queen of All Saints. This
Guide Book & Directory is and shall remain the property
of this Parish and is intended for the private use of the
members of this congregation only. Use of this book by
anyone for a business purpose or for telephone or mail solicitations is strictly forbidden. If you do not want your
phone number and/or your address listed in this publication, please contact the Parish Office, 846-8207, ext. 200.
GUIDE BOOK & DIRECTORY
Advertising Opportunity
We are in the process of updating our annual Guide Book &
Directory for the Parish. This book will be the Who, What,
Where, When, Why and How of our Congregation. The
book is being provided at no cost to our Parish, including
the mailing to each family, and again is being subsidized by
local businesses that advertise in it. If you own or manage a
business and would like to find out about advertising in our
book, please call the Parish Office, 846-8207, ext. 200.
Recent survey results by Guide Book Publishing show
that 92.1% of families would rather patronize a Guide
Book & Directory advertiser over a non-advertiser. It
“will pay” to advertise in our new Guide Book & Directory.

8TH GRADE PRO-LIFE ESSAY CONTEST
Recently the QAS 8th graders were asked to write an essay
for the annual Knights of Columbus essay contest. They
were given the topic: Tell how abortion negatively impacts
our society. The following is an excerpt from the winning
essay written by 8th grader Jack Klos. "Abortion has been
proven to break down relationships." "Rates of domestic
violence and child abuse have risen since the legalization of
abortion. Child abuse has increased more than 1,000 percent
since the legalization of abortion in 1973. Abortion also
negatively affects the economy; a decline in the number of
workers equals a decline in an economy's growth potential. Abortion has detrimental effects physically, psychologically and socially and has an overall negative impact to our
society. Life should be cherished, and not unjustifiably
killed."
Yes, our young people DO understand the negative impact
of abortion on our society. These 8th graders are prepared
to go forward and fight for the dignity of all human
life. Congratulations to all the 8th graders!
Look for more essays in following weeks.
March for Life - January 22, 2015
January 22, 2015 will mark the 42nd anniversary of the
Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion in our
country. Hundred of thousands of people will travel to
Washington DC from all around the country for a peaceful, prayerful protest to this evil in our land. QAS 8th
graders, teens and our Youth Minister will be attending! Is this the year YOU travel to Washington
DC? Buses leave from St. David's church in Arnold on
January 21.
More information is available at www.missourilife.org or
by calling Jeannine at 293-0670.

people who came together to make their blankets that
day, those who made the blankets on their own, Ms.
Brinkley’s fourth grade class who made 15 blankets,
and even people from other parishes who heard about
the event and wanted to participate! Please plan to join
in next year; watch for sales on fleece now (two pieces,
two yards each). Thank you again, and have a very
blessed Christmas!
Catholic Engaged Encounter
A Catholic Engaged Encounter is a weekend retreat for engaged couples which gives them plenty of time alone together
to plan for a sacramental marriage. If you are getting married
in the next year, you and your fiancé will benefit from attending an Engaged Encounter. For more info, call Jim & Cheri,
636-379-0962 or http://home.centurytel.net/stlengaged/.
Giving Thanks!!
Now is the season we give thanks to God for all He has
done for us this past year and throughout our lives. It is
also a good time to begin considering how we might give
back some of our wealth or assets to Him through His
Church with a special year-end gift of cash or appreciated
assets such as shares of stock. You can designate such a
gift to the QAS Endowment Fund or simply to the Queen
of All Saints general operating fund. Please contact Ed
Lane at 314.702.8721 or [email protected] or the Annual
Catholic Appeal Office’s Planned Giving Department at
314.792.7680 for additional giving opportunities to benefit the Queen of All Saints Endowment Fund.
