The First Sunday After the Epiphany The Baptism of Our Lord Confirmation January 11, 2015 9 a.m. St Anne’s Episcopal Church 424 W. Market Street—Warsaw, Indiana 46580 574.267.6266 www.stanneswarsaw.org The Reverend Corinne Hodges, Rector The Right Reverend Edward S. Little II Bishop of Northern Indiana Connecting to Christ … Connecting to Call … Connecting to Community Good Morning! Normally on Sundays we celebrate the Holy Eucharist (Communion) at 8 a.m. (solemn service, no hymns) and 10:15 a.m. (music, nursery care and children’s formation, Labor Day-Memorial Day). Our liturgy is from the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), found in your pew. All are welcome to the Lord’s Table. It is our custom to receive the bread in our open hands and consume immediately. When you are offered the chalice, please assist by gently holding the base and guiding the cup to your lips. If you prefer, having consumed the bread, you may return to your seat. We believe Christ is fully present in either element. If you have not been baptized or prefer not to receive Communion, simply cross your arms over your chest and the priest will give you a blessing. Childcare for infants and toddlers is available during the 10:15 service. Please ask an usher for directions. We also have activity bags for young children. These are located across from the tile table by the ushers. If you are visiting today, please sign our guest book in the entrance area. We will mail you a copy of our newsletter, The Visitor. To learn more about our congregation, please talk with a vestry member: Sr. Warden Eric Satterley, Jr. Warden Curt Singrey, Cheryl Hastings, Jay Rigdon, Dan Coons, Sharon Dustin, Mary Haeck, Julie Kuhn, Steve Shelby and JoElla Smyth. Their nametags are clearly marked in yellow. The vestry is the leadership board of our church. They will be glad to introduce you to others and listen to your feedback. Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light. And God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Acts 19:1-7 While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the interior regions and came to Ephesus, where he found some disciples. He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?" They replied, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." Then he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" They answered, "Into John's baptism." Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus." On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied-- altogether there were about twelve of them. Mark 1:4-11 John the baptizer appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And people from the whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins. Now John was clothed with camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. He proclaimed, "The one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to stoop down and untie the thong of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit." In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased." The Altar flowers were given to the Greater Glory of God in honor and thanksgiving of those being confirmed, received and reaffirmed Deb Meyer, Lachelle Tullis, Andrew Sellers, Ashely Ronk, Cindy Ronk, Dane Ronk, Craig Ronk, Mercedes Plummer, MaryLou Plummer, Cynthia Vance and Carol Morrison by Mike and Pastor Corinne Hodges 9 AM—Rite Two Prelude - Organ At the entrance of the ministers, all stand and sing the Entrance Hymn 448 O love, how deep, how broad, how high… Opening Acclamation Celebrant Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Proper Preface Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: Sanctus The people stand or kneel. Then the Celebrant continues Copyright GIA used with permission Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all. He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world. At the following words concerning the bread, the Celebrant is to hold it, or to lay a hand upon it; and at the words concerning the cup, to hold or place a hand upon the cup and any other vessel containing wine to be consecrated. On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me." After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Celebrant and People Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The Celebrant continues We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom. All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.
