(we pray silently) Eternal Father, All who at the baptism of Jesus revealed him to be your Son, anointing him with the Holy Spirit, keep your children, born of water and the Spirit, faithful to their calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. We Proclaim the Word The First Reading—Genesis 1:1–5 Reader Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church. All Thanks be to God. Psalm 29 Read by Rodryck D. One Ascribe to the Lord, you gods, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. All Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. One The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is upon the mighty waters. All The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendour. One The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon; All He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox. One The voice of the Lord splits the flames of fire; the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. All The voice of the Lord makes the oak trees writhe and strips the forests bare. One And in the temple of the Lord all are crying, “Glory!” All The Lord sits enthroned above the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king for evermore. One The Lord shall give strength to his people; All the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace. The Second Reading—Acts 19:1–7 Read by Lisa Kuch While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul passed through the inland regions and came to Ephesus, where he found some disciples. He said to them, ‘Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you became believers?’ They replied, ‘No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.’ Then he said, ‘Into what then were you baptized?’ They answered, ‘Into John’s baptism.’ Paul said, ‘John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus.’ On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied— altogether there were about twelve of them. Reader La Parole du Seigneur All Nous rendons grace á Dieu The Gospel—Mark 1:1–11 (Please stand) Rdr: Le Seigneur soit avec vous. The Lord be with you. All: And also with you. Rdr: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark. All: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ (The Gospel is proclaimed) Rdr: The Gospel of Christ All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Homily—Mark Whittall The Apostles’ Creed One Let us confess the faith of our baptism, as we say, All I trust in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I trust in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I trust in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Prayers of the People Confession and The Peace Broken conversations, broken people, broken Lord, Terrified illusions seeking comfort, seeking more. We need each other more than we need to agree Father, Son, Spirit, bless us with your love, with your grace and peace. Peace. Let there be peace. Let there be peace. Let there be peace Let us see and not destroy, let us listen, let us listen Let us suspend judgment for the sake of love, for the sake of love We need each other more than we need to agree, Father, Son, Spirit, bless us with your love, with your grace and peace. What People Are Saying about Nathan Dungan Nathan Dungan, president of Share Save Spend, is the keynote speaker for the Money, Values and Me conference on Saturday, February 28. Selina Ingles, graphic designer and member of St Alban’s, Ottawa, heard him speak in 2013 at a conference on Stewardship for adults under 40. Here’s what she says: “Nathan Dungan provided a very refreshing look at how we, North Americans, talk about and value money. As a young professional, finances are something that always seem to be on my mind, and not necessarily in a positive way. Nathan’s humour and honesty helped me identify how I value my own time and relationships in relation to my wallet. All the while contrasting it to the backdrop of my own society and faith community. The YouTube videos don’t do him justice, he’s definitely worth coming out to see!” To register online or for more info about the Money, Values and Me conference, visit http://www.ottawa.anglican.ca/MVM2015. html Molding the Anglican Tradition—Focus on the sacraments Join Rev.
