He said to them, "Come, John 1: 35-42 and you will see." In today's Gospel, the first disciples are invited to look, to see what is before them, to realize who is in their midst. The same invitation is extended to us, the disciples of Jesus in this time and place. Jesus calls us to "come and see": to realize the presence of God in the goodness and generosity around us; and to follow him: to focus our attention on the needs of others rather than our own wants, to find purpose in bringing joy into the lives of others rather than in the pursuit of the things the world deems as important. Christ promises us, if we seek it, God's grace enabling us to open our eyes and hearts to behold the life and love of God in our midst. I would like to clarify that my priestly humor in wishing Ad Multos Annos to Fr. Phil Hearn, after resigning as our regional Vicar, may have been misleading to some. While resigning the Vicar’s post after 12 years may have reduced his work load slightly, it does not, in anyway, affect Fr. Hearn’s pastoral commitment to his parish of St. Mary’s/St. Peter’s or his involvement in our community. I extend my highest regard and warmest thanks to Fr. Hearn for his service to our region and sincerely wish him Ad Multos Annos (to many more years!) Fr. A Family Perspective from the Family Life Education Office (a Hope Appeal agency) Jesus’ question in today’s gospel is still valid today: “What are you looking for?” What do you want from your spouse, children or parents? Families are populated with imperfect people. To expect perfection is unreal. To expect and accept imperfection is wisdom. Larry Ehlinger Treasure Hunter January 20th Tuesdays in Lee Center @ Saint Joseph’s Parish Center Indiana Jones has nothing on Larry Ehlinger. Saint Joseph’s Parish Center Who hasn’t dreamed of finding buried treasure? Time: 6:45 - 8:15 Larry’s greatest discovery came from a wooded Cost: Free All are Welcome hillside in 2006 when he uncovered a buried hoard of stolen jewelry from the late 1800’s. This gold & silver 1oot was authenticated, appraised and submitted to Western & Eastern treasure magazine and voted as one of the best metal detecting finds of the Year. And, now you can hear this story and much, much more. 5748 Stokes/Lee Center Rd, Lee Center, NY (315) 336-2661 Serving your health care needs for 50 years
