Clancy Salutes:
•
Congratulations to senior Emily Tubb who signed a letter of intent for rowing
today with Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.
•
Congratulations to the 239 students who were named to the McGuinness
Honor Roll for the first semester. There were 6 seniors, 8 juniors, 22 sophomores
and 43 freshman who had a 4.0 simple GPA qualifying for the Pier Giorgio Honor Roll, while 42 seniors, 38 juniors, 55 sophomores and 25 freshman were named to the Principal’s Academic Honor
Roll earning a 3.75-3.99 simple GPA.
• Hat’s off to the Wrestling team for their performance at the
Piedmont Tournament. Brent Wilson placed 1st at 152 lbs, Zach
Straughn placed 3rd at 145 lbs and Nate Connelly placed 2nd at
heavy weight. Special Congratulations to Brent Wilson who only
needs 3 pins to tie and 4 pins to break the school record for the most career pins. Brent
will have an opportunity tonight as the team travels to Chickasha for District Duals.
•
Special Congratulations to Katie Doan who was chosen as the Bishop McGuinness January
Student of the Month.
•
A “Big Irish Thank You” is extended to the forty 8th grade students from Westminster Middle School who visited our school last
Friday. Clancy also wishes to thank the school ambassadors, Mr.
Goff, Mr. Swartz, Allison Hopfer and Cheyenne Martin for talking to our
guests about some of the many great programs at McGuinness.
•
Congratulations Rosary Catholic School. For the 20th time since its inception in 1978, Rosary Catholic School won the annual Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School Science Fair. Clancy
wishes to thank our own Science teacher Mrs. Julia Anderson-Holt and her many students and
adult volunteers who help organize and judge the event.
•
Congratulations to the Nationals Cheer Team! This weekend they
placed in the top ten in the NCA High School National Championship.
Great job girls!!!!!
• Clancy wishes to congratulate 1970 Bishop McGuinness
Catholic High School graduate and 1966 Rosary graduate, Jerry
Kelley for being named the Rosary School Alumni of the Year. Jerry, his wife Ellen and
their five children are all BMCHS graduates!
•
Special congratulations is extended to our Boys and Girls Basketball teams for their performance at the Bruce Gray Deer Creek Tournament over the weekend. The
girls team defeated Enid 44-37 in the first round, lost to Putnam City West in the
semi-final contest, then rallied from a 13 point deficit to defeat Mustang 57-49
in the consolation game. Congratulations to sophomore Torie Shanbour who
was named to the All Tournament team. Not to be out done, the boys team had a
great tournament defeating Del City 66-45 in the first round, losing a nail biter 50-47 to Putnam
City North in the semi-final and holding off Edmond North 59-55 to claim the 3rd place trophy.
Congratulations to Will Lienhard and Stuart Krous for being named to the All Tournament team.
•
Please say a special prayer for all the students and adult leaders going on the Boys Kairos 62 Retreat this weekend.
•
Thank you to the Catholic community for helping us raise over $5,000 for Catholic Charities during the Hoops 4 Hope Basketball Festival last weekend!
•
Happy Birthday to the following staff members who will celebrate birthdays this week:
Tony Pennington and Mandy Thomson.
Clancy Speaks:
Happy Catholic Schools Week!
A “Big Thanks” to Campus Minister Joe Welch and his Spiritual Leadership class for organizing many celebrations this week. Appreciation days are scheduled for teachers, students, administration, staff,
counselors, feeder schools and all who help make our school such a
special place. As principal, I want to say thanks to our parents, both
past and present, who sacrifice so much of their time, talent and treasure to make Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School an outstanding
secondary school. As they say “proof is in the pudding,” as I reflect
on the many accomplishments of our students. It is hard to go anywhere in the Oklahoma City
community without being touched by a Bishop McGuinness connection. McGuinness graduates
have had a profound impact on our city. This is my 40th year as a Catholic educator. Starting my
teaching career as a social studies, science and PE teacher at Christ the King in 1974 to being
named the 12th principal of Bishop McGuinness Catholic High School in 2001, I truly believe I
have been blessed to work in the best community with the best students ever. Having had the
opportunity to go other places, I am happy to say I started my career in Catholic education and
someday (not any day soon, I hope) I will end my career in Catholic education.
To everyone who has sacrificed so much in tuition, contributions, service and volunteer efforts
we say thank you! You have made our school a place where students can grow in their faith and
receive an education that I believe is second to none!

The Peru Mission team will be selling his workbook before and after his presentation as a
fundraiser to help our missionaries pay for their trips. The workbook is titled Prepare, Compete,
Win! The Ultimate College Planning Workbook for Students, (formerly The College Planning
Workbook). The workbook is an interactive guide that provides contextual interpretations of the
college admission process, reflective exercises, calendars and to-do lists, and planning exercises that prepare students to compete for admission. This most recent edition, released in August
2014, is up-to-date regarding the overall student enrollment process, online applications and
financial aid.
The workbook sells for $20, and the Peru Mission will receive $5 for every book sale, so
please support the mission while also preparing for college!
