Alexandria PTA Council Summer Camp Directory 2015
The Alexandria PTA Council (PTAC) conducts the Summer Camp Fair as a service to the community and as a fundraiser (camps pay a fee to participate). The PTAC does not endorse
any particular camp. The Camp Fair provides an opportunity to personally meet camp representatives, ask for references, and ask questions appropriate to your individual needs.
We are always looking for ways to improve the Camp Fair. Please send suggestions to [email protected]
Some things to consider when choosing a camp:
Ø What type of camp? Same-sex or coed? Overnight or day camp?
Ø Should you consider a specialty camp that offers a focused curriculum, such
as basketball, or a special-needs camp designed for specific physical or
medical disability?
Ø How long a session? A child may attend camp for a week or two – or an
entire summer.
Ø Is the staff trained in safety, supervision, counseling, problem solving, and
other issues important to working with young children?
Ø Is the price all-inclusive or do extra charges apply for transportation, food
service, group pictures, t-shirts, special skills instruction such as horseback
riding, and other items?
Ø Are discounts or scholarships available?
Ø For day camps, if before and after care is offered to accommodate working
parents, who will be supervising children and what activities take place?
Ø Is lunch and/or a snack served, or do campers bring their own?
Ø If swimming is offered, are lessons included, or is swimming only
recreational?
Ø Does one counselor stay with a group all day? Or are campers free to roam
from one activity to another? How is adequate supervision assured?
Ø Are parents allowed to drop by for visits at any time?

Incorporating the philosophy of Montessori Atrium,
fostering wonder in the gifts and stewardship of the
natural world, children garden, bake, create handwork in
a variety of media - drawing, painting, modeling
beeswax/clay – utilizing indoor and outdoor
environments. Narnia Club for grades 1-3 explores the
beauty and aesthetic of Cathedral architecture,
gargoyles, bookmaking and more culminating in a joyful
celebration at the end of each week.
At Arcadia Farm Camp, campers joyfully discover where
their food comes from through hands-on farming,
cooking and eating experiences. Through interactive,
cooperative and empowering activities, we create the
next generation of sustainable farmers, chefs and eaters
. . . all while having fun! Weekly themes all incorporate
farming, food and fun (tend veggies, care for chickens,
harvest, and play).
Art Camp provides a wonderful way of introducing
children to several forms of visual art. In our basic camp,
each day brings a new project. In specialty camps, the
focus is on immersing the children in one media. Camps
come in whole and half day sessions. Tuition for full day
camp includes a supervised lunch hour. See our catalog
for a complete listing of options.
Baroody Camps is proud to offer programs that provide
enrichment in everything from academics to athletics
and so much more!
