PARCCTesting Is Right Around
The Corner!!!
This year PARCC testing begins on March 9th. An
informational meeting for the community will be
held on Wednesday, February 11th at 6:30 p.m.
Millstadt has developed a rich history of academic
excellence. While this is not the only thing that
defines us, it is the most outward and visible tool
used. The administration, staff, and students take
this very seriously.
Attendance is especially
important during this time. Please emphasize the
importance of the test preparation and
administration with your student.
Congratulations in advance to our students and
teachers!!!!

Community Consolidated School District No. 160
A Note from the Superintendent:
I would like to take time to highlight some
of the great things occurring at MCCSD
#160 over the past months.
At this time last year, I wrote about the
District’s need to cut between $300,000
and $500,000 to eliminate deficit
spending. While we did not cut our deficit
entirely, we are in a position now where
we hope to not propose any cuts this
year. Therefore, it will not reflect back on
parents in regards to an increase in fees.
I would like to thank our faculty and staff
for working hard to overcome an increase
in job duties and class sizes. They
continue to work extremely hard and help
our students excel.
I appreciate the hard work put forth by our
Board of Education in making those
difficult decisions when approving cuts.
This weighs heavy on their hearts and
minds as they wish to do everything
possible to help and benefit children.
The PARRC testing is just around the
corner. We encourage you to attend the
informational meeting on February 11th.
We ask for parents’ assistance by making
certain their child gets a good night’s
sleep and eats a healthy breakfast each
day.
Also, remain positive
and
encourage your child to do their best on
the test. With your support and
involvement, your child will be well on
their way to a positive attitude during state
testing.
Sometimes you don’t realize your own
strength until you come face to face with your
greatest weakness.
~ Susan Gale ~
We are proud of the success of the Pre-K
tuition-based program started this year. It
has been a tremendous success for our
students.
We have seen them grow in
knowledge and confidence throughout the
past year. We have scheduled an Pre-K
Program Open House on March 10th. The
evening event will provide information for
next year’s program and we encourage
you to attend.
Another new program created this past
year was an Employee of the Month
program. The following winners were:
Employee of the Month
November Co-Winners
Elizabeth Biermann
Bryan Weaver
December Winner
Wanda Sins
Congratulations to those staff members for
their hard work and dedication. Plaques
will be displayed at both MCS and MPC
honoring the winners.
The public is
encouraged to nominate employees at the
following
link
at
anytime.

As always, I want to thank our staff for their
hard work and dedication to our students
and community.
They are truly the
backbone or our District.

December 29, 2014 Dear Business Owner, The Millstadt Consolidated School’s Class of 2015 is holding a Music Trivia Night Fundraiser to help raise money for their Class Trip to Washington, D.C. and NYC. This lifechanging trip is only made possible by the generosity of people like yourself who give of their time, money, and resources to benefit these fundraisers. At this time, we are asking for sponsors of the rounds as well as items to be raffled off during the evening. A donation of $100.00 will sponsor a trivia round, and your business will be prominently announced before and after the game, as well as listed on our Poster of Sponsors. You may send along a business cards or pamphlets if you’d like. If you would like to donate a product or service to be raffled off, your business would be prominently displayed on the item to be raffled off, and you may send along business cards or pamphlets as well if you’d like. Please consider donating to this fundraiser. Through the work of the parents, students, and community members and other organizations, we can raise enough money to truly send these students on a trip they might otherwise never get to experience. The Trivia Night is February 21, 2015, and we would like all donations to be received by February 1st. Please use the contact information below to submit your tax deductible donation. On behalf of the Class of 2015, we would like to thank you for your time and consideration of this request. February 2015
From the Principal’s Office…
From the Assistant Principal’s Office…
At this time last year, all we could think of was making it through
what was a very cold and difficult winter. So far this year we have
been lucky and the weather has felt more like Spring and Fall. While
the weather could change at any time, I want to take the opportunity
to remind everyone how important regular school attendance is for
all students. We must work together to make sure students stay
healthy and on a consistent routine to perform their best.
As hard as it is to imagine, the end of February brings us closer to the
end of the third grading period. It is also the beginning of our new
PARCC testing and before we know it ~ the homestretch of another
school year will be upon us. Right now many of our teachers are
taking advantage of our technology and practicing for the PARCC
test. This helps anticipate any issues we may face and it allows the
students to become familiar and as comfortable as possible when
taking the test. This new test will inevitably present issues and
complications for our district and the state. I have great confidence
in our students to do their best and make the most of a challenging
situation.
We are very fortunate as a school district to have staff, students, and
parents working together. When I ask for their support, I know the
response is always overwhelmingly positive. That type of attitude
and cooperation benefits our students on a daily basis. Our focus this
year is on working hard every day. We will continue to prepare
students for success not only on state mandated testing but in all
aspects of life.
Important registration dates and information have been released for
next year as follows:
I would like to thank our MCCSD families for your support of our
School Mall fundraiser. The funds raised by this program help to
defray the cost of field trips, extra student materials, assemblies, and
professional development. Thank you for taking time to fill out those
booklets!
Kindergarten registration will be held at the Primary Center on
February 5th and 6th from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please contact Mrs.
Janice Seidlitz at 476-7100 to schedule an appointment. Students do
not need to be present at this appointment.
We are working on our drop-off procedures at the Primary Center.
When dropping off your students in the morning, please remember to
pull all the way up to the car in front of you so we can fit as many
vehicles in the circle drive as possible. If you are the first car, please
pull all the way up to the end of the circle drive. We will have at least
two staff members in the circle drive to assist students who are exiting
vehicles. Please remain in your vehicle and allow us to assist your
child. In this way, we hope to respect everyone’s time in the mornings
and speed up our drop-off process. Thank you for your cooperation!
On January 28th, our Pre-K through 2nd grade students enjoyed the
Belleville West children’s play, “The Wizard of Oz.” On February
5th, Belleville East students will come to the Primary Center to
present their children’s play, “The Little Mermaid.” Our students are
fortunate to have the opportunity to enjoy both shows this year. The
assembly on February 5th is an example of an activity that is funded
by the School Mall fundraiser.
Valentine parties will be held on Friday, February 13th. Parties at the
Primary Center will begin at 10:15. Parties at MCS will begin at
10:30. Dismissal on February 13th is at 11:20 for the Primary Center
and 11:30 for MCS.
During the month of January, we worked on the Character Counts
pillar, Fairness. At the Primary Center, students have the opportunity
to earn the Character Counts award for their class each month. These
students are recognized with a Character Counts yard sign placed in
their yards for the month. The following students have earned this
recognition and will have the Character Counts yard signs for the
month of February: Kross Morales, Zoey Masengale, Haley Miller,
Alyvia Petryshyn, Sara Balding, Jaden Stolica, Jackson Matecki,
Andrew Bunn, Kylee Wuebbels, Michael Robertson, Maddie
Froese, Luke Allen, and John Hilpert. Signs will be delivered
during the first weekend of February. Congratulations to each one of
you! Caring is our Character Counts theme for February. Students
will be reminded of this character trait during the month and will also
be recognized for demonstrating this trait.

Band Dates to Remember…
Saturday, February 28th - Solo Contest in Columbia, IL
Saturday, March. 28th - Band Contest (6th-8th grade) at
Triad Middle School
(Band Uniform & All Black Shoes)
with the cookie sales. We have finally found out the issue
with the shortages between last year and this year. A
calculation was incorrect on the spreadsheet for the items that
are cased differently. This has been fixed, and we should not
have any issues going forward. Again, we are very sorry!
Through our fundraising so far this year, we have purchased
all of the new marching drums, a new Baritone Saxophone,
and items that are needed for our contest pieces.
The last part of the year also brings us to our solo/ensemble
contest and Senior band contests. The solo/ensemble contest
will be held on February 28th in Columbia. The kids are hard
at work practicing for their solos and ensembles and we wish
them the best of luck at contest! Senior band contest will be
held on March 28th. The venue has changed for this contest to
Triad Middle School. There will be more information to
follow regarding times. We are still working on the date for
the Senior Band Contest at Six Flags. We will have more
information on that within the next month. On January 16th,
the 4th & 5th grade bands had their pizza party and field trip to
City Museum. The weather was very nice for the students, it
was not crowded, and all students had a great time!
This year is Mrs. Jones’ last year as our flag coach. We
appreciate all of the hard work and dedication throughout the
years leading the girls. You have done a fantastic job! We are
taking names of people who are interested in coaching next
year. If you are interested, please send me an email at

I look forward to seeing everyone at the next band parents
meeting, Tuesday, February 17th @ 6:30pm at school in the
old chorus room. The last couple of meetings we have
enjoyed the new faces that have attended the meeting.

Choral Music Notes….
Our two performing choral groups,
Vocal Motion, directed by Mrs.
Kathy Alt, and Panther Chorale,
directed by Ms. Janie Bloomer, gave
a wonderful Concert at Christmas.
They are now working hard on solos and music for the
upcoming contests.
Solo and Ensemble Contest will be held at Columbia
Middle School on Saturday, February 28th. Anyone
singing a solo and the entire Panther Chorale, who will be
participating as a lab choir, will be performing in this
contest.
Students will need to provide their own
transportation.
Vocal Motion is rehearsing to perform at the
Organization Contest at Triad Middle School on Saturday,
March 28th. Band and choral groups will be performing at
this contest. Bus transportation will be provided.
Many sincere thanks to Mr. Guetterman for his
generous donation of the choral acoustical shell to be
used for choral concerts in the gym. It will be utilized
for many years to come.
The Fine Arts Fair is Coming
Soon…
This year’s fair is scheduled for set up in
the gym and multipurpose room on
Sunday, March 1st. Our program will
begin at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March
2nd. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. We will
need help in taking down on Tuesday, March 3th. Both
MCS & MPC will be represented in the fair. There will be
2-3 art objects on display from grades K-8th. This should
be a great display of our artistic talents. We will start off

Reading News....
As the dreary winter months persist,
they provide a good time for reading.
One way to motivate your child is to
make reading attractive—something
you do together for fun on a regular basis. Make reading
a sought-after reward or treat. Reading should be a
pleasurable, non-stressful event that brings parent and
child, brother and sister, closer. The bond of favorite
stories shared in childhood forms the foundation of many
individual family traditions.
To increase comprehension and retention of assigned
reading for school, the KWL method is one organized
reading approach that works for some children. This
stands for what I KNOW, what I WANT to know, and
what I LEARNED. Students fold a piece of paper into
three vertical columns. As a pre-reading tool, they list
two or three things they already know about the subject in
the K column. They then formulate two or three things
they want to find out and write them in the W column.
This gives them more purpose while they are reading.
After reading, they write several items they learned in the
L column. If they didn't answer the questions they had
before reading, they can use other sources to find their
answers if they still want to know.
Science Olympiad News…
Just a reminder to all the Science
Olympiad
members
and
their
parents/guardians:
Mark
your
calendars for our Regional Competition
on Saturday, February 14th. The
event runs throughout the course of the day. Everyone must
wear their team t-shirt, socks and closed-toed shoes: NO
EXCEPTIONS! Everyone is welcome to attend the
tournament at the Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville
campus. We will send permission slips and medical release
forms home with students and they must be returned to the
coaches prior to the tournament. Copies of event times have
been sent home with students. Event locations on campus will
be sent home once we receive the information. Any questions
can be emailed to
[email protected] or
[email protected]. Good Luck Team!

HOMEWORK CALLING
INFORMATION
Important: To connect to the Homework Hotline you must call on a touchtone phone. Rotary phones and pulse tone phones will not
work.
Procedures:
1.
Dial 476-3321 or 476-3207
2.
Once you have heard the opening message, do the following:
Press 1- Dial either 3321 or 3207
Dial teacher’s 4-digit homework hotline number
After getting the homework assignment, hang up. Do not leave a message.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY
The Homework Line is a communication system for the parents and the school. The system is an enhancement for parents to have
better knowledge of pupil assignments and discussions. The system is not to take over the students’ responsibilities for remembering
assignments. Students are to take note of all assignments and write them down. If the Homework Line fails to operate correctly or a
teacher forgets to record an assignment, the student will still be responsible for the assignment the next day. No blame can be placed
on the hotline or the teacher for a missed assignment as long as the assignment was given in class and the student was present in
school.
