Maybe 2015 could be the year for you to do that. If you don’t step up to plan a chapter event, maybe you could just get more involved. Maybe this is the year to attend an event or two or three. Maybe 2015 could be the year for you to do that. As a New Year’s resolution, I hope that you choose to make 2015 a year that you will be an active participant in the Tejas Chapter. From personal experience, I know that it will be a resolution that you will never be sorry that you kept. From The President Is it really 2015?? ........ Where does the time go?? Is it really the year of my 50th high school class reunion?? If you are 50, you just think you are old, but 50 years since graduating from high school? Now that’s old. But what never gets old is looking forward to another great year of events with the great members and families of the Tejas Chapter. We left a very good year behind us, with many great memories, but those are all in the past. However, 2015 brings the opportunities for new challenges and new memories. One of Until next time .... Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza makes handcrafted pizzas using three-day cold fermentation dough and fresh ingredients sourced from local farms and gardens. The property includes a 6000-sq ft pavilion with a stage, dance floor, and plenty of seating. After lunch, we will walk just down the road to the neighboring Jester King Brewery for a 1:00 pm free tour followed by a tasting. Jester King is an authentic farmhouse brewery committed to making wild ales and spontaneously fermented beers. Jester King is a relatively small brewery, producing less than 1500 barrels annually, so although their wares can occasionally be found at local retailers, restaurants, and bars, many of the 40 beers listed on their website are only available for sampling and purchase in their tasting room, so don't miss out! Children are allowed at Jester King so long as they are accompanied and supervised by an adult. The cost of the event is whatever you spend on lunch at Stanley's and on beer at Jester King. The Tejas Chapter would like to have its 1st event. A small team of Tejas Chapter members had been putting the plans together for a 2011 event, then a 2012 event, then a 2013 event, then a 2014 event, but have run into a roadblock, “the location.” The location has to be a large parking lot with minimal obstructions, such as light poles. Several locations have been contacted with no success. Due to this roadblock, the new target to hold an event will be in 2015. Please let the Driving Events Coordinator, Scott Bowman at [email protected], if you have a contact for a location in the Central Texas area. January/February 2015 8 Tejas Trax Overview The Lone Star, Tejas, and Houston Chapters of the BMWCCA proudly present the third annual Texas Trifecta at the Circuit of the Americas Formula 1 track in Austin, TX. Our experienced instructors have come from racing, autocrossing and BMWCCA schools. The Texas Trifecta will consist of: High Performance Driver’s Friday, 3/20/15: Education (HPDE) Instructors, Club Race/Practice & optional students day Saturday, 3/21/15: Instructors, Students & Club Race Sunday, 3/22/15: Instructors, Students& Club Race There will also be an Autocross Coming March 20-22, 2015 Register at http://www.motorsportreg.com/ January/February 2015 9 Tejas Trax 2015 Date January 24, 2015 February 21, 2015 March 20-22, 2015 April 2015 October 2015 December 2015 Event Post-Holiday Party and Awards see page 5 Farmhouse Pizza & Beer Tour see page 7 Texas Trifecta HPDE at COTA see page 9 Annual Bluebonnet Drive Annual Utopia Weekend Charity Event January/February 2015 10 Meet Location New Braunfels Austin Austin TBA TBA TBA Tejas Trax pilgrimage to Utopia – miles and miles of Central Texas roads traveled over the year, now rounded out with an event allowing us to make a positive impact on the entire region we’d enjoyed as our automotive playground all year. Our shift began promptly at 9AM with Gabe, our enthusiastic, amiable Capital Area Food Bank Charity Event Recap By John and Corey Hughan The holiday season truly is a time of giving: giving thanks, giving gifts, and for the Tejas Chapter, giving back. On December 6th, over three dozen volunteer coordinator. On our way to the sorting area where we would be working, he led us through their storage area. In layout and square footage directly reminiscent of Costco, the shelving was built to the rafters and arranged in aisle after impossibly long aisle, all of it occupied by huge cardboard boxes packed with donations. Gabe gave us a detailed orientation outlining the entire process and then doled out the various available assignments like an a u c t i o n e e r, o rg a n i z i n g u s i n t o efficient, single-task teams – like S a n t a ’s e l v e s , b u t p r o p e l l e d b y German horsepower. We gathered in chilly weather amidst a colorful array of Bimmers, including a new M3 and two new M4s – plus the Lightning Blue R56 Cooper S of yours truly thrown in for good measure. Recapping the year with members, it was unbelievable that both another year had already flown by so quickly and that we’d done so much in that time! It was initially saddening to see just how much food was thrown away at this stage, but Gabe reminded us that the overwhelming majority of the donations they received would otherwise have been thrown out in their entirety, so anything that could be kept was a win for the community. The usable donations then continued down the conveyor, where yet another team deposited them into empty boxes according to categories such as protein, fruits and vegetables, packaged goods, and beverages. Occasional pileups on the conveyor belt that arose when the screeners sent This work around the conveyor belt was crucially supported by still other volunteer teams charged with tasks such as furnishing category labels, maintaining the supply of empty boxes and lids, and organizing specialized items such as those too large to send down the main conveyor belt. Finally, when the boxes of sorted items reached the weight prescribed for their category, they were sent down the final section of the conveyor to be labeled, taped, stored, and ultimately loaded onto trucks that would deliver them all throughout Central Texas to enrich the holiday celebrations of families in need. At the end of our three-hour shift, Gabe tallied our output and revealed that we had sorted 5,970 lbs of food, enough for 4,975 meals! This thrilling news of just how much good our work would bring to others this holiday season elicited bright, gleaming smiles from everyone present. We gathered for our last group photo of the year and set off for lunch – having worked up quite the appetite! As I rounded the corner from Hunter road to Stagecoach trail at 8:30AM, I noticed cones blocking the 1st entrance to the parking lot, but there were no German Cars in the lot. I continued on to the main entrance to find a parking space and notice all of the vehicles were either trucks or suv’s. No one looked familiar as they were proceeding to the conference room in the Museum. I walked over to the lady selling tickets to go into the museum and asked where the German Tri-Marque was being held. She was only aware of a car show starting at 2pm.
