the best parts of last year was that we
had a few new people step up and plan
an event. Maybe 2015 could be the
year for you to do that.
If you don’t step up to plan a
chapter event, maybe you could just
get more involved. Maybe this is the
year to attend an event or two or three.
Maybe 2015 could be the year for you
to do that.
As a New Year’s resolution, I hope
that you choose to make 2015 a year
that you will be an active participant
in the Tejas Chapter. From personal
experience, I know that it will be a
resolution that you will never be sorry
that you kept.

Farmhouse Pizza
& Beer Tour
Saturday, February 21, 2015
planned by John Hughan
After spending the Saturday prior to this event celebrating Valentine’s Day with
flowers and candy, come spend THIS Saturday celebrating Hill Country with pizza
and beer!
9:30 am - Meet at the Hill Country Food Mart and Shell station on TX-71 just
east of Bee Cave Pkwy
map:
9:45 am - Driver meeting
10:00 am - Depart
We will take a quite circuitous route from our starting point through Texas Hill
Country to Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza, arriving at approximately 11:15 am.
Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza makes
handcrafted pizzas using three-day cold
fermentation dough and fresh ingredients
sourced from local farms and gardens. The
property includes a 6000-sq ft pavilion with
a stage, dance floor, and plenty of seating.
After lunch, we will walk just down the road
to the neighboring Jester King Brewery for
a 1:00 pm free tour followed by a tasting. Jester King is an authentic farmhouse
brewery committed to making wild ales and spontaneously fermented beers.
Jester King is a relatively small brewery,
producing less than 1500 barrels annually,
so although their wares can occasionally be
found at local retailers, restaurants, and bars,
many of the 40 beers listed on their website
are only available for sampling and purchase
in their tasting room, so don't miss out!
Children are allowed at Jester King so long
as they are accompanied and supervised by
an adult.
The cost of the event is whatever you spend on lunch at Stanley's and
on beer at Jester King.

The Teen Street Survival Program is supported and organized by the BMWCCA to
provide defensive driving techniques and actual experience for teenagers with a
driving permit or license.
The Tejas Chapter would like to have its 1st event. A small team of Tejas Chapter
members had been putting the plans together for a 2011 event, then a 2012 event,
then a 2013 event, then a 2014 event, but have run into a roadblock, “the location.”
The location has to be a large parking lot with minimal obstructions, such as light
poles. Several locations have been contacted with no success. Due to this roadblock,
the new target to hold an event will be in 2015.
Please let the Driving Events Coordinator, Scott Bowman at [email protected],
if you have a contact for a location in the Central Texas area.

Overview
The Lone Star, Tejas, and Houston Chapters of the BMWCCA proudly present
the third annual Texas Trifecta at the Circuit of the Americas Formula 1 track in
Austin, TX. This High Performance Driving School will give you the opportunity
to drive your car at speed and to experience the potential of the unique combination of car and driver. It is safe, demanding and most importantly FUN! All students will alternate between classroom sessions and time on the track with an
instructor. The individualized instruction is a key to this program that has been
developed over decades, and compares very favorably with commercial schools
costing many times more. Our experienced instructors have come from racing,
autocrossing and BMWCCA schools.
The Texas Trifecta will consist of:

occupied by huge cardboard boxes

belt, another team checked them to
filter out unusable donations, e.g.
bulging or severely dented cans,
packages that had been opened, and
food long past its expiration date. It
was initially saddening to see just how
much food was thrown away at this
stage, but Gabe reminded us that the
overwhelming majority of the
donations they received would
otherwise have been thrown out in
their entirety, so anything that could
be kept was a win for the community.
The usable donations then continued
down the conveyor, where yet another
team deposited them into empty boxes
according to categories such as
protein, fruits and vegetables,
packaged goods, and beverages.

This work around the conveyor belt
was crucially supported by still other
volunteer teams charged with tasks
such as furnishing category labels,
maintaining the supply of empty boxes
and lids, and organizing specialized
items such as those too large to send
down the main conveyor belt. Finally,
when the boxes of sorted items
reached the weight prescribed for their
category, they were sent down the final
section of the conveyor to be labeled,
taped, stored, and ultimately loaded
onto trucks that would deliver them all
throughout Central Texas to enrich the
holiday celebrations of families in
need.
At the end of our three-hour shift,
Gabe tallied our output and revealed
that we had sorted 5,970 lbs of food,
enough for 4,975 meals! This thrilling
news of just how much good our work
would bring to others this holiday
season elicited bright, gleaming smiles
from everyone present. We gathered
for our last group photo of the year

up quite the appetite!

It was chilly and sprinkling on the
drive to Dick’s Classic Garage Museum
for the start of the German Tri-Marque
Concours event in November. As I
rounded the corner from Hunter road to
Stagecoach trail at 8:30AM, I noticed
cones blocking the 1st entrance to the
parking lot, but there were no German Cars
in the lot. I continued on to the main
entrance to find a parking space and notice
all of the vehicles were either trucks or
suv’s. No one looked familiar as they were
proceeding to the conference room in the
Museum. I walked over to the lady selling
tickets to go into the museum and asked
where the German Tri-Marque was being
held. She was only aware of a car show
starting at 2pm. I used my handy iPhone

check the event information. My eyes

The judges were able to complete
their detailed task efficiently and

3 winners for each car manufacture,
Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz. In the
BMW concourse category, 1st place

people that entered the judged and

that day was donated to the Florence’s

since the temperature was dropping
fast. Hopefully the next tri-marque

To encourage participation, the successful Incentive Points Challenge began in 1998. The members
who earn the highest number of points by the end of the year (up to 10th place) receive valuable prizes
at the Post-Holiday Party in January 2016. The Rookie of the Year award is for the member that joined
in the current year and earns Rookie Points based on points earned divided by the time as a member
during the year.

More customers than ever
collect their new BMW in
person at BMW Welt
The BMW Welt has been a major
attraction for the citizens of Munich,
tourists and fans of BMW Group brands
since it opened in 2007. The experience
centre has established itself not only as a
desirable event venue and gourmet
destination, but also as a popular delivery
point for new BMW vehicles. Every year
a growing number of customers from all
over the world opt to collect their new
BMW in Munich. In 2014, the BMW Welt
set a new record of around 22,500 vehicledelivery customers. Delivery of the first
of BMW’s new electric vehicles also got
off to a successful start this year, with a
total of 31 BMW i3s and 35 BMW i8s
presented to their new owners at the BMW
Welt.
“All BMW customers buying a new
car have the option of collecting their
vehicle at the BMW Welt – the heart of
the brand. Many BMW customers and
fans, often travelling from farther afield,

Customers often travel long distances
to visit the BMW Welt. Roughly 90 per
cent of customers collecting their vehicle
come from all over Germany. Many of
them bring their families, collect their new
BMW from the BMW Welt and then drive
straight to Italy or Austria for a holiday,
before heading for home. One in ten
customers makes the journey across the
Atlantic from the US or Canada: In June
of this year, a group of Canadians departed
from Munich on a trip across Europe in
their new BMW M3 Sedans and BMW M4
Coupés. At the end of the trip, the cars were
shipped back to their owners.
Fleets, athletes and celebrities
The BMW Welt is also popular as a
platform for delivery of fleet vehicles: The

company Saarstedt collected 66 vehicles
for its company fleet in March 2014, while
the North Rhine-Westphalia State Office
for Central Police Services was presented
with three BMW 7 Series High Security
vehicles in October 2014.
The BMW i3 is another car often
delivered as a fleet vehicle. Ilse Aigner,
Bavarian Minister for Economic Affairs,
Media, Energy and Technology, took
delivery of a BMW i3 for her ministry, for
example.
Delivery of the first BMW i8 worldwide
was celebrated in an official ceremony at the
BMW Welt hosted by Thomas Gottschalk
in June 2014 and attended by a long list of
celebrities.
Sports personalities also like to sample
the BMW brand experience. Several vehicles
were presented to the German Ice Hockey
Federation in January 2014, for example, and
the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, also had
his photo taken with the BMW M3 in the
BMW Welt delivery arena.
The following vehicles debuted this
year in the BMW Welt delivery arena: the

their BMW for the first time in the BMW
Welt delivery area. Between 80 and 120
vehicle deliveries take place at the BMW
Welt every day, with up to 160 deliveries at
peak times.
The BMW Welt is always full of
surprises for customers: Last year, the buyer
of the 100,000th vehicle delivered won a
DTM (German Touring Car Masters)
weekend. The owners of the first five new
BMW 2 Series Active Tourers delivered at
the BMW Welt were presented with framed
design sketches.

BMW Welt – at the heart of the brand,
on the pulse of the city
With around 2.9 million visitors in 2013,
BMW Welt in Munich is Bavaria's most
popular attraction and has become a real
magnet for visitors since its opening in 2007.
With its pioneering architecture, BMW Welt
is the heart of all the brands in the BMW
Group – BMW, the sub-brands BMW M and
BMW i, MINI, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and
BMW Motorrad, which are impressively
presented in their own worlds of experience.
But it is not only the exhibitions and the
collection of new vehicles that are highlights
for car lovers from all over the world. Visitors
can enjoy a year-round programme of varied
events covering culture, art and
entertainment along with culinary delights
in several restaurants. Whether it's a jazz
concert, clubbing event, a film première, gala
event or panel discussion – BMW Welt is
the perfect platform for innovative events.
In the BMW Welt Junior Campus, children
and youngsters can enjoy exciting guided
tours and workshops on the themes of
mobility and sustainability. A new iPhone
app featuring iBeacon technology provides
visitors of BMW Welt with additional
information, audio and video material.
Vehicle delivery at BMW Welt – an
unforgettable experience
Each customer receives personal
attention with an individual programme for
the day of delivery. Depending on the
customer’s interests, options range from a
reception in the exclusive Premium Lounge
to a tour of the main plant and the BMW
Welt, to a visit to the BMW Museum. The
emotional highlight of every visit, however,
is the presentation of the new car: After a
personalised one-and-a-half hour vehicle
briefing from a specialist, customers receive
the keys to their new car and get to drive
