The Finance Council is asking each donor to contribute an extra donation in addition to their ordinary weekly or monthly offering for these expenses. A special “Mold Remediation Appeal” envelope is contained in the monthly envelope packet. Donations may also be made through Faith Direct (enroll at the parish office or online at Faith Direct; the QAS parish code is MO86). Last fall, the parish expended $465,000 for remediation repairs in the school and the church hall. The Capital Improvement Committee estimates the expense of the HVAC solution for the school building will be $350,000. And recently a new boiler ($60,000) was installed in Limbach Hall, an expense unrelated to the mold issue. The parish Finance Council appr eciates ever y family’s assistance in providing for these extraordinary expenses which obviously were not known at the time the current budget was approved last spring. NEW FROM LIGHTHOUSE CATHOLIC MEDIA Pope John Paul II said that Divine Mercy is THE message for the third millennium and God's gift to our time. There is nothing that mankind needs more than Christ's Divine Mercy. To help us avail ourselves of that loving mercy, Fr. Brooks focuses on what we know of God's Mercy, our response to His Love, how we can become merciful to others, and how to become apostles of mercy. Kitty Cleveland is an award-winning singer, songwriter and actress who has been delighting audiences for over 25 years. She has appeared five times as a guest on EWTN's "Life on the Rock" series. This CD features the Divine Mercy Chaplet set to music written by Kitty and sung by her with a children's choir, as well as songs from a selection of her CDs. A bonus segment from Kitty's stirring testimony follows. Have you checked out the Symbolon program on our website yet? If you said no, WHY NOT? Mark Toups Do you find it easy to pray? For most of us, prayer becomes a source of frustration as we struggle to calm our minds and to find even a few minutes to pray. In our busy lives, prayer is seen as a luxury, when in reality it is at the foundation of a healthy spiritual life. The good news is that you can overcome your difficulties with prayer, and it is easier than you might think. Over the course of eight weeks, the Oremus study program teaches you the essentials of an effective and fruitful prayer life. Session Dates April 22 May 6 May 13 May 27 June 3 June 10 June 17 June 24 July 1 All sessions in the Church Hall at 7:00 pm. (The June 17 and June 24 sessions may be in the Library) Cost is determined by number of participants and will range between $15-$20 per participant for purchase of the study guide. Contact the Adult Resource Center to register and get more information: 846-8207, ext. 206 or 208 The Little White Book Six-minute reflections on the Resurrection Narrative according to John The Little W hite Book is meant to help you enjoy six minutes of prayer each day during the 50 days of the Easter season. The left-hand page is like a buffet table with a variety of items: Catholic traditions and customs, the saint of the day, historical facts, and information pieces. But the key is the right-hand page. On that page each day (except Sundays) you will walk through the final two chapters of John’s Gospel. These reading begin early Easter Sunday morning when Jesus’ tomb is discovered to be empty, and then continue with accounts of the appearances of the risen Jesus, through to the end of the Gospel. The stories you will read are familiar ones. But you’ll read them in a way that might be unfamiliar to some – line by line, right through to the end. When you normally hear the Gospels proclaimed at the Eucharist on Sundays of the Easter season, you hear short selections from one Gospel, then another, and so on. That has its value, but to read a whole Gospel, or a whole section of a Gospel line by line, consecutively, can be a very different experience. Reading it this way, you may notice some things you hadn’t noticed before. Six minutes a day is all it takes! Take one – they are free! April 12, 2015 Divine Mercy Sunday In this presentation, Matthew Leonard focuses on the new idea of love proclaimed by Christ and how it gives meaning to human suffering, penance, and ultimately death. Sounds a bit dark, doesn't it? But it's not! By looking at these issues we'll discover the secret to how we can "Rejoice in the Lord always" just like St. Paul, no matter what happens. The Holy Shroud of Turin was called the greatest relic in Christendom by Pope John Paul II. In fact, the Shroud is the most studied scientific object in the entire world. Fr. Peffley presents new and detailed scientific and medical evidence for the authenticity of the Holy Shroud. This presentation brings greater clarity as to the depth of the agony of our Lord's sorrowful Passion, which he voluntarily took on for love of us. Come to grips with “what really happened to Jesus” as Dr. Steven Smith explores Resurrection narratives from the vantage point of each of the four Gospels as well as many of the vital medical details of Roman crucifixion. Dr. Steven Smith is a professor of Sacred Scripture at Mount Saint Mary's Seminary, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Dr. Smith earned his Ph.D from Loyola University in Chicago, where he specialized in the study of the Gospels and their relationship to the Old Testament. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen was one of the best-known and bestloved Catholic orators of the twentieth century, reaching millions of Christians of all denominations. Presented here are his timeless reflections on the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord, combined with Scripture and Gregorian Chant to create a powerful presentation that is sure to become a family favorite.
