Thornton, who has previously served as Chairman of the firm’s Executive Committee Gif Thornton, Jr. and held numerous management roles, joined the firm in 2005 when then Nashville’s Stokes Bartholomew merged with larger regional firm, Adams and Reese. Thornton succeeds Charles P. Adams, Jr., who held the role of managing partner since 2001 until his term ended recently. Adams led the 300 lawyer firm through a volatile period in the economy and the legal industry, through natural catastrophes like Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as well as the firm’s successful expansion into Birmingham, Alabama, three offices in Tennessee, five offices in Florida, and the firm’s newest office in Columbia, South Carolina. Thornton said he wants to maintain Adams’ focus on exceeding client expectations, strategic growth, and profitability. Adams, who will continue to serve the firm overseeing several strategic initiatives, was instrumental in the selection of Thornton as his successor. Adams, said of Thornton, “Gif and I have been working on this transition for more than a year, and he is definitely well prepared to lead the firm into the future. He has been involved as a key member of the firm’s leadership since he joined us, and we are fortunate to have someone with his vision, talent, and commitment,” said Adams. “Gif brings tremendous national, regional, and local experience having served significant clients across a broad range of industries and sectors,” said B. Jeffrey “Jeff” Brooks, firm Chairman. “His perspectives will help further energize our future growth and success.” Brooks continues, “Gif is one of the most effective and respected lawyers in the state of Tennessee, and his is a prominent voice in the governmental relations arena and within the business and philanthropic communities. Well-known in political circles, Thornton serves as legislative counsel to a number of businesses, trade associations and governmental entities with interests before Tennessee state government. In addition, he represents clients before regulatory boards and administrative agencies of local, state and federal government. He has extensive experience in the areas of education, energy, health care, insurance, technology, transportation and utilities. He serves on the Board of the Metropolitan Development Housing Agency, as well as the Board of the Tennessee Business Roundtable. He is a Fellow of the Tennessee and Nashville Bar Foundations and is former Board President of the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee. Thornton currently serves on the board of The Hermitage, and has served on the Board of Trustees of Vanderbilt University. Thornton has received numerous honors and recognitions throughout his distinguished career to date, including most recently: “Lawyer of the Year” in Government Relations by Best Lawyers® in 2014; Pro Bono “Attorney for Justice” by the Tennessee Supreme Court; Best of the Bar by the Nashville Business Journal; “In Charge” by the Nashville Post; and Best Lawyers® in Tennessee by Business TN. Sharon Hanlon, president-elect of the Southwest Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, presents the keynote during the first graduation for the Tampa Bay campus of WMU-Cooley Law School. Tampa Bay Campus of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School Graduates First Class The Tampa Bay campus of Western Michigan University Cooley Law School held its first Florida graduation ceremony Sunday, April 19. Some 115 students who earned their juris doctor degrees were presented with their diplomas during ceremonies at the University of South Florida’s Marshal Student Center in Tampa. The campus began holding classes in May 2012. The keynote was presented by Sharon Hanlon, president-elect of the Southwest Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. Hanlon, herself a WMU-Cooley graduate and board member, and a private practice attorney in Naples, Florida, spoke about importance of working hard and becoming leaders in Florida’s legal community. “I am a WMU-Cooley graduate, just like you,” said Hanlon. “I did not graduate at the top of my class, but I am here to tell you that it didn’t stop me from being at the top of my field as a lawyer.” Hanlon told the students that being the first WMU-Cooley graduates from the Tampa Bay campus means they received the same hands-on practical education that more than 20,000 previous graduates received while attending classes at the school’s Michigan campuses. Hanlon described WMU-Cooley lawyers for the graduates. “Cooley lawyers work hard. A Cooley lawyer is ethical. Cooley lawyers join organizations and work their way to the top of the group. A Cooley lawyer is prepared going to court. That is how we put Cooley on the map, and this is how you are going to let Florida know what Cooley lawyers are all about.” Each class at WMU-Cooley bears the name of a distinguished member of the legal profession. The April 2015 class is named after Robert Trimble, an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1826-1828. Straz Center Presents Late Nite Catechism with Sister Mary Z Commission on the Status of Women to Meet on April 28 The Straz Center for the Performing Arts presents Late Nite Catechism, the uproarious piece of interactive theater that takes audiences back to their youth, May 1-3, in the Jaeb Theater. The irrepressible Sister teaches class to a roomful of “students.” Throughout the course of the class the benevolent instructor rewards the “students” for correct answers with glow-in-the-dark rosaries and other nifty prizes. Naughty students may well find themselves on stage sitting in a corner reflecting on their actions. However, even the most reluctant “students” will be clamoring to get into this Sister’s class. Now in its 20th year, Late Nite Catechism has brought its nostalgic kick to every state in the United States as well as to Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia. Mary Zentmyer This “part catechism class, part stand-up routine” interactive play, is one of the longest running shows in Chicago and in American theater history. Late Nite Catechism takes the audience back to the days of the Latin Mass, meatless Fridays and that good old ruler across the knuckles! Late Nite Catechism will play in the Jaeb Theater, May 1-3. Hillsborough County to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for Public Safety Operations Complex New Facility will House Fire Rescue Headquarters, Emergency Operations Center Ballet’s greatest comedy comes alive when Next Generation Ballet (NGB) performs Coppélia, with music by Leo Delibes and choreography staged by NGB’s Artistic Director Peter Stark. Funny and romantic, Coppélia tells the story of Swanhilde and her fiancé Franz, whom she catches flirting with a beautiful woman who sits on a balcony all day and reads. When Swanhilde discovers the woman is only a doll — the invention of mad scientist Dr. Coppelius — she trades places with the fake and convinces the doctor and her beloved that the beautiful invention has come to life. Her trickery triggers a madcap domino effect of mistaken desires and identity, all played out in delightful dances, beautiful pas de deux and stunning solos for the principal dancers. Hillsborough County leaders will host a ceremony on Tuesday, April 28 at 2 p.m. to break ground for the new Public Safety Operations Complex, a $26.5 million facility that will be the center of County government’s emergency preparedness and response efforts. After years of planning, the new facility will replace Hillsborough County’s Fire Rescue Headquarters and Emergency Operations Center, both currently located on Hanna Avenue in Tampa. The 52,000-square-foot main building will house Fire Rescue’s administrative staff and training center, the Emergency Dispatch Center, and the Office of Emergency Management. Also to be constructed on the site for Fire Rescue are a 10,000-square-foot fleet operations area and a 15,500-square-foot warehouse. The complex will be located on 20 acres on Columbus Drive, between Falkenburg Road and U.S. Highway 301 in the Brandon area. Construction is scheduled to be complete by September 2016. The project is being funded by General Revenue and Public Safety Improvement Bond Project Funds. A key component of the facility will be the new, state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center. As disaster preparedness and response efforts have evolved and more agencies are working together, the current facility has become crowded and outdated. The new space will feature room for more personnel, a more efficient layout, a larger media area, more sleeping quarters, and up-to-date technology. The facility also will be built to the highest hurricane rating construction standards. The new Fire Rescue training center will provide a wide range of instruction, ranging from entry-level fire training to advanced classes that will satisfy the technical rescue requirements for urban search and rescue, and hazardous materials incidents. Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion to Perform in Tampa Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award Committee to Meet WHO: WHAT: WHEN: WHERE: Straz Center for the Performing Arts Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion Monday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. Jaeb Theater at the Straz Center Sarah Lee Guthrie and her husband Johnny Irion have been singing together for 13 years and recording for eight. In that time, they’ve released three studio albums that highlight their folksy harmonies and acoustic-based sound. They’ve often bristled against the strictures of the roots scene, and the duo have indulged their taste for unabashedly pop hooks and moody soundscapes. Guthrie is the youngest daughter of folksinger Arlo Guthrie and the granddaughter of Woody Guthrie. Irion originates from a family of artists - his uncle is author Thomas Steinbaeck, his great uncle is author John Steinbeck and his grandmother, Rubilee Knight, is a classical violinist. The duo have Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion recently recorded an album produced by Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and Patrick Sansone titled Wassaic Way. This concert replaces the previously announced Club Jaeb performance by Natalie Prass who, due to a scheduling conflict, is unable to perform. Regularly priced tickets are $28.50 and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office or online at www.strazcenter.org. General Admission Tickets are $10 and VIP Reserved Tickets are $15 per person. Donations are also accepted online so families and friends from around the country or close at home who cannot attend the event can show their support for these musically gifted students. Mr. Joseph Galeczka, Director of Choral Activities, is enthusiastic about this year’s talented students and those who have already been recruited for next year. Selected students for the 2015-16 school year are receiving invitations to attend the Cabaret Dinner for free with the purchase of an adult ticket so they can get a “taste” of what to expect for next year. “That weekend is a busy one for the kids. Friday is an all day trip to Tallahassee to perform at the Florida State MPA. They will shine as a group on Friday and as individuals on Saturday,” boasts Kathy McGuire, Community Relations Chairman for the Blake Chorus SOTA Booster Club. Parent to Junior Mykala McGuire, Kathy is also a local promoter, producer and performer who is just one of many parents and professionals who donate their time, talent and treasure on behalf of these young stars. Mr. Galeczka is committed long term to Blake High School. “As my second year as Director of Choral Activities comes to a close, I aim to continue building upon the foundation set for the development of a high quality high school chorus program. I plan to recruit the top high school vocalists in Tampa Bay, work with the support of a dedicated, parent organized Chorus Booster Club, and build partnerships with the area’s business and arts community. My goal is that there will be no financial barriers on when and where these gifted youth can share their voices in the Tampa Bay area, the State of Florida, and around the United States.” The Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award Committee will meet on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 3 p.m. at County Center in the 26th Floor Conference Room A, 601 E. The Committee will recommend a winner and two runners-up to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners. Detailed information on the Wade Boggs Athletic Achievement Award is available online. For more information, email or call Tim Davison, Public Relations Production Coordinator at (813) 272-5194. Mediation pursuant to Section 120.573, F.S., to settle an administrative dispute regarding the District’s proposed action in this matter is not available prior to the filing of a request for hearing. 4-25 CASE NO.:13-CA-015080 DIV.: N NOTICE OF ACTION — IN THE COUNTY COURT OF THE THIRTEENTH JUDICIAL CIRCUIT IN AND FOR HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FLORIDA — CIVIL DIVISION — CULBREATH KEY BAYSIDE CONDOMINIUM ASSOCIATION INC., Plaintiff, vs. DAVID C.
