Parish Life Committee and Family Fun Day
Building a sense of community among the parishioners is a critical aspect of parish life.
It is so important that many parishes have a special group of people whose job it is to
foster a better sense of community among the membership. Here at Holy Family it is our
Parish Life Committee. The main focus of the Committee is to help build strong bonds of
Christian Community within our Parish and our community and to foster a deeper sense
of belonging and friendship between us all. The Parish Life Committee hosts a Coffee
Hour twice a year after the 9:00 am Mass, one at the beginning and one at the end of
Faith Formation classes. We also organize a Pot Luck Supper in the Spring and Fall. The
Committee also awards scholarships to graduating High School seniors in good standing
with Holy Family to further their education. We have awarded almost $10,000 over the
past years. Three of our scholarships are given in loving memory of Patrick O’Connor,
Susan Buehler and Dolores Manzone. We have purchased new altar clothes, servers
cassocks and supplies to help improve the quality of our Liturgy, Worship and Spiritual
Life. We have donated money to Matthew House, St. John’s Outreach School Kenya
(Father John’s special needs children in Kenya), El Portal de Belen Foundation, and
Cayuga Seneca Community Action Agency. The Parish Life Committee feels that these
contributions illustrate Holy Family’s caring and loving spirit. We hope you do, too.
Community-building happens when we come together to have fun and celebrate our
common bonds to our Parish. For us to continue to do all the above mentioned projects
and more, we invite you all to our Family Fun Day, April 25, 2015 from 10:00 am to 1:00
pm. Ther e will be much to see and do! We ar e having a Bake Sale, Raffle Baskets,
items from the Catholic Shop, Jewelry Table, Cake Booth, “This” and “That” Table,
50/50, Plant Sale, Raffle tickets, Children Activities, Food, and much more. Raffle tickets
can also be purchased after all weekend Masses April 11/12 and 21/22. Only 600 tickets
will be sold! The cash prizes are 1st -$1000.00; 2nd - $500.00 and 3rd - $250.00.
We thank you for the help and support you have given to Parish Life in the past years
and hope that you will be able to help us again this year. Your prayers for this day’s
success, donation of your time, baked goods and support will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for all you do and for showing the caring and loving spirit of Holy Family.
Please remember that nobody is more important to our success at Community building
than You. Hope to see you at the Family Fun Day!

CATHOLIC MINISTRIES APPEAL (CMA): We
are a gifted faith community and we are called on
to share what we can to those in need. Some will
be able to afford more than others, but to meet
our diocesan goal we need every parishioner to
give something. Until now we have made a sacrifice of
$25,540.00 which is 91.13% of our total goal of $28,025.00.
$2485.00 TO GO! Our parish is facing a challenge at this point in
meeting our Catholic Ministries Appeal Goal. I am coming to you
for help. If you are one of the 187 households who have already
made a pledge, thank you, but if, per chance, you have not made
your pledge, I am writing to urge you to do so. One of our goals
this year is to increase the number of parish households which
support the CMA. Our current participation rate is only 30.4%.
Won't you help improve this participation? Any amount, large or
small will help. Drop your contribution marked `CMA’ in the
collection basket or at the office. If you can help your parish in this
load, but do not want to contribute to the CMA directly, please
place your check payable to Holy Family in the weekly collection
and at the MEMO write “PARISH SPECIAL CARE” This will
ensure that these monies are used to make up the difference.
Please pray for the success of our efforts. Thank you. Fr. John
THE SANCTUARY LIGHT will burn this week in memory of
Claireen Holmes Dennis at the request of the family.

program. Next week, the First Eucharist candidates will bring up
the gifts.

any questions: 252-9576 Ext. 16 or [email protected].
PRESERVING
OUR
TRADITION
AS
COMMITTED
STEWARDS: With 613 registered families at Holy Family, we
should easily raise $300,000 and even more. Our true goal is to
have a 100% participation in the Church Roof Campaign. As of
Tuesday, April 7, we have received $106,096.43 in gifts and
pledges! We are now at 35.4% of our desired goal of
$300,000.00. Thanks to all of you who have helped us reach
this point and our success depends on us!
DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY is celebrated on this Second
Sunday of Easter, April 12, and will be observed this Sunday
afternoon at St. Hyacinth Church. The Devotion will begin with
the 10:30 Mass at St. Hyacinth, after which the Blessed
Sacrament will be exposed on the altar for private adoration up
until 3:00 pm. From 1:30 to 2:30 pm, Confessions will be
available. At 3:00 pm the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be sung,
concluding with Solemn Benediction. This devotion is open to the
public and all are invited.
EASTER REFLECTIONS
When children grow up, they begin to doubt certain beliefs they
had held as long as they could remember. Some of these beliefs
stem from stories told to them by others to bring awe and
wonderment to their childhood. Some are beliefs about how
things work in the world, and some are concerning where they fit
into that world.
As children reach maturity, some beliefs will be verified and then
held onto for the rest of their lives: other ideas will be cast aside
for good, either because they have seen no evidence that attests
to the truth of those beliefs or because others have convinced
them through words or actions that those beliefs were in error.
A great sadness results when someone disbelieves the truth
because they have seen no evidence to confirm it. Thomas had
a chance to believe because he saw Jesus and toughed his
scars. But there are people all around us who only see injustice,
pain and sorrow, and Jesus is nowhere to be found. Where are
those who bear the name of Christian? Perhaps this Easter
season, God is calling you to show the real Jesus Christ to
Others so they may believe.
ROMAN HOLIDAY! A 12-day trip, led by Father Richard Shatzel
to Italy, from Monday, Sept. 14 thru Friday, Sept. 25. It begins
with a Papal Audience with Pope Francis...then on to
Assisi...Siena...Florence...Milan...Padua...and ending in Venice.
The land rate is $3,069 per person, with air fare to be added. For
more information call Father Shatzel at St. Rita’s in Webster at
(585) 671-1100.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT MATTHEW HOUSE
Matthew House provides a caring, homelike setting for those in
the final days of life. We are looking for gentle, compassionate
volunteers who are willing to share their time and their hearts with
our residents. There are many volunteer opportunities...from
resident “hands-on” care, to house care/laundry...to meal prep
and sometimes yard work. No experience is necessary only the
ability to commit to a few hours a week or even four hours a
month. Orientation, shadowing and training will be provided.

Holy Family Parish Life Scholarship Application
The Parish Life Committee will again be awarding
scholarships to High School Seniors who are planning on
going to college or an institution of higher learning. The
amount of the scholarship can vary from year to year because
it is based on the monies that we raise from our Family Fun
Day and other fund raisers minus the budgeted amounts that
we donate to charities.
To be considered for a scholarship, please include a list
of parish, school and community activities. Also a written
essay of 150 to 200 words on why you are a good candidate
for the scholarship. Please mail back all the information with
completed application to: Holy Family Church, 85 North
Street, Auburn, NY 13021 or drop it in the collection basket.
Attention: Parish Life Committee. The deadline for returns is
Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
