It is so important that many parishes have a special group of people whose job it is to foster a better sense of community among the membership. Here at Holy Family it is our Parish Life Committee. The main focus of the Committee is to help build strong bonds of Christian Community within our Parish and our community and to foster a deeper sense of belonging and friendship between us all. The Parish Life Committee hosts a Coffee Hour twice a year after the 9:00 am Mass, one at the beginning and one at the end of Faith Formation classes. We also organize a Pot Luck Supper in the Spring and Fall. The Committee also awards scholarships to graduating High School seniors in good standing with Holy Family to further their education. We have awarded almost $10,000 over the past years. Three of our scholarships are given in loving memory of Patrick O’Connor, Susan Buehler and Dolores Manzone. We have purchased new altar clothes, servers cassocks and supplies to help improve the quality of our Liturgy, Worship and Spiritual Life. We have donated money to Matthew House, St. John’s Outreach School Kenya (Father John’s special needs children in Kenya), El Portal de Belen Foundation, and Cayuga Seneca Community Action Agency. The Parish Life Committee feels that these contributions illustrate Holy Family’s caring and loving spirit. We hope you do, too. Community-building happens when we come together to have fun and celebrate our common bonds to our Parish. For us to continue to do all the above mentioned projects and more, we invite you all to our Family Fun Day, April 25, 2015 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Ther e will be much to see and do! We ar e having a Bake Sale, Raffle Baskets, items from the Catholic Shop, Jewelry Table, Cake Booth, “This” and “That” Table, 50/50, Plant Sale, Raffle tickets, Children Activities, Food, and much more. Some will be able to afford more than others, but to meet our diocesan goal we need every parishioner to give something. Until now we have made a sacrifice of $25,540.00 which is 91.13% of our total goal of $28,025.00. $2485.00 TO GO! Our parish is facing a challenge at this point in meeting our Catholic Ministries Appeal Goal. I am coming to you for help. If you are one of the 187 households who have already made a pledge, thank you, but if, per chance, you have not made your pledge, I am writing to urge you to do so. One of our goals this year is to increase the number of parish households which support the CMA. Our current participation rate is only 30.4%. Won't you help improve this participation? Any amount, large or small will help. Drop your contribution marked `CMA’ in the collection basket or at the office. If you can help your parish in this load, but do not want to contribute to the CMA directly, please place your check payable to Holy Family in the weekly collection and at the MEMO write “PARISH SPECIAL CARE” This will ensure that these monies are used to make up the difference. Please pray for the success of our efforts. Thank you. Fr. John THE SANCTUARY LIGHT will burn this week in memory of Claireen Holmes Dennis at the request of the family. April 12, 2015 FAITH FORMATION OFFERTORY PROCESSION this week at the 9 am Family Mass— children from the Liturgy of the Word program. Next week, the First Eucharist candidates will bring up the gifts. FIRST EUCHARIST PREPARATION today at 10 am in church for parents and children. Please call or email Nancy Smith with any questions: 252-9576 Ext. 16 or [email protected]. PRESERVING OUR TRADITION AS COMMITTED STEWARDS: With 613 registered families at Holy Family, we should easily raise $300,000 and even more. Our true goal is to have a 100% participation in the Church Roof Campaign. As of Tuesday, April 7, we have received $106,096.43 in gifts and pledges! We are now at 35.4% of our desired goal of $300,000.00. Thanks to all of you who have helped us reach this point and our success depends on us! DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY is celebrated on this Second Sunday of Easter, April 12, and will be observed this Sunday afternoon at St. Hyacinth Church. The Devotion will begin with the 10:30 Mass at St. Hyacinth, after which the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed on the altar for private adoration up until 3:00 pm. From 1:30 to 2:30 pm, Confessions will be available. At 3:00 pm the Divine Mercy Chaplet will be sung, concluding with Solemn Benediction. This devotion is open to the public and all are invited. EASTER REFLECTIONS When children grow up, they begin to doubt certain beliefs they had held as long as they could remember. Some of these beliefs stem from stories told to them by others to bring awe and wonderment to their childhood. Some are beliefs about how things work in the world, and some are concerning where they fit into that world. As children reach maturity, some beliefs will be verified and then held onto for the rest of their lives: other ideas will be cast aside for good, either because they have seen no evidence that attests to the truth of those beliefs or because others have convinced them through words or actions that those beliefs were in error. A great sadness results when someone disbelieves the truth because they have seen no evidence to confirm it. Thomas had a chance to believe because he saw Jesus and toughed his scars. But there are people all around us who only see injustice, pain and sorrow, and Jesus is nowhere to be found. Where are those who bear the name of Christian? Perhaps this Easter season, God is calling you to show the real Jesus Christ to Others so they may believe. ROMAN HOLIDAY!
