Ghanges to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and Repatriation Pharmaceutical
Benefits Scheme Online Claiming Arrangements
We are writing to advise you that we are streamlining the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS)
and Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (RPBS)online claiming arrangements.
What you need to know
We have improved the PBS Online Claiming channel, so from 1 April 2015 you will receive
increased real time feedback. This means that incorrect and incomplete prescriptions will be
rejected instantly so that you can correct and resubmit them straight away.
To assist you in moving to the new online claiming arrangements there will be a transition period
from 1 April 2015 to 30 June 2015. During this transition your dispensing software product will
need to be upgraded so that you can close your claim electronically using the PBS Online Claiming
channel. You are required to continue to send in your paper prescriptions to finalise your claim until
your software has been upgraded.
There are no changes to the manual claiming arrangements.
What you need to do
You need to ensure your dispensing software product is upgraded by 30 June 2015 so that you
can close claims electronically using the pBS online Claiming channel.
We have been working closely with your dispensing software vendor to be ready for your transition
to these new arrangements. we have also engaged with the Pharmacy Guild of Australia on this
matter.

Once you have upgraded, you need to keep your prescription/s and claim related papenvork
for a
0.-e!od of two years under the upciated Nationat Health (Pharmaceutical Benefits) Amendment
(Medication Chart Prescriptions) Regulation 2015. Records can be
stored electronically. We will
continue to undertake compliance checks and may request a copy of the prescription/s
and claim
related papenvork. When requested, this documentation may be provided
in electronic or paper
form.
