The process to becoming a licensed pharmacy technician can be a daunting
one. Success lies in a positive attitude, becoming knowledgeable of the requirements
and expectations, and setting a plan. The presenter will review key considerations for
initial registration and licence renewal..
2. Navigating Change- The Challenges and Opportunities of a new profession in
New Brunswick
George Murray, Deputy Registrar, New Brunswick College of Pharmacists
New Brunswick adopted a new Pharmacy Act and Regulations July 1, 2014, protecting
the title of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Technician Students and allowing for
their regulation and registration. The first Pharmacy Technician was registered in
December 2014. Learnings from the recent New Brunswick experience are shared
while exploring the current and future challenges and opportunities for our new
profession of Pharmacy Technicians.

technicians not be fearful of addiction treatment but rather to become a
cornerstone in patient wellness. By describing his personal evolution to becoming an
advocate for addiction treatment, he shows that any pharmacist or pharmacy
technician can help with a change in attitude and perspective. The presentation will
also detail a brief review of methadone maintenance and Suboxone treatments, a
description of the day in the life of a person in active treatment and the traditional
role of the pharmacist and pharmacy technician in addiction treatment. Finally the
presentation with describe the future or ‘new” role and relationship between the
pharmacist and technician to more effectively battle addiction.
