SERIOUS INFECTION IN ACUTELY ILL CHILDREN
IN PRIMARY CARE
Validating clinical prediction rules and the added value
of vital signs and point-of-care tests.
JAN VERBAKEL
May 2015
Acute infection is the most common presentation of children
to ambulatory care. In contrast, serious infections are rare
and often present at an early stage. Clinical prediction rules
and point-of-care tests might aid early recognition of those
serious infections and adequate referral to avoid complications or death. This is a dissertation presented by Jan Verbakel in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree
of Doctor in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Leuven
(KU Leuven), Belgium.
