SUMMER PROGRAM During the months of July and August, your child will participate in four out of six distinct summer classes selected by the school. CEFA’s Summer Program offers children the opportunity to develop their creative and social skills through a variety of summer activities and projects. The program incorporates CEFA’s unique methodology as well as our own CEFA games and curriculum related to Reading, Writing, and Math. For specific details consult your summer newsletter! We Are The World Children will learn the traditions, food, dances, and music from different cultures. They will also familiarize themselves with their own community and family roots. Nutty Professors Science can be fun! Children will learn the different properties of liquids and bases when mixed, through activities such as making volcanoes, rocketships, and parascopes. Little Chefs Instill a love for healthy cooking in your child, as they learn how to work with others in the kitchen. They will be taught different methods of measuring, mixing, and cutting ingredients, as they play restaurant in our dramatic play area. Art Expression Children will gain self-confidence by expressing their creativity and feelings through art. A variety of artistic mediums will be used, including canvas, clay, paper, and photography. Camping and the Great Outdoors During this course, children will develop their gross motor skills through sports, olympic games, and outdoor activities. Children will also bring the campground experience into the class by creating props and materials to extend their imagination. Music and Movement Children will cultivate positive self-expression while exploring different movement techniques and musical sounds. This course will offer the opportunity to experiment how sound is made, learn about composers, and even paint with their feet! www.cefa.ca We Are The World In the course, children will have the opportunity to learn about their classrooom, Teachers, new friends, and the community that surrounds them. They will introduce their family and their culture in an effort to understand and embrace other cultures and traditions. Children will create a family tree with photos for a show-and-tell session that focuses on their roots. Everyday provides an opportunity to celebrate how we all fit together as CEFA kids and CEFA friends. We will discover what feelings look like by making a feelings resource book and playing feelings charades. We will also make a community map and go exploring. Nutty Professors Make a nutty professor out of your child. In this course, children will experiment with different materials and delve into a variety of projects that make Science fun. Children will discover what sinks and floats, explore how magnets attract, watch a rocket take off by using Science, and make their own volcanoes. Music and Movement Music and movement will have your children experiencing different music, from classical to rock and roll, while dancing to their heart’s content. They will explore a variety of movement techniques as they move like an astronaut, dinosaur, ballerina, or a cowboy. Children will also learn about famous musicians, such as Beethoven and Tschaikowsky, and will even write their own sheet music. They will experiment how sound is made by creating their own music. Music helps kids remember the basics, like the order of letters in the alphabet, so while this class is a lot of fun, it acts as a fundamental component of the learning process. www.cefa.ca Little Chefs Have you ever wished that you were taught how to cook at an earlier age? This course gives your child that opportunity. In addition to learning how to work with others in the kitchen, children will learn how to measure, mix, and create. Children will make apple crumble, and then plant the apple seeds next to grass seeds to hypothesize which will grow faster. They will also make homemade jam, tasting different flavour combinations until they discover their favorite. Finally, they will make an individual pizza to eat, and one to take home in the form of a felt or cardstock pizza. Art Expression Children will learn to express themselves through a variety of artistic mediums. They will explore different painting and drawing techniques, as well as trying their hand at sculpting and photography. Tissue paper bowls and photo collages are examples of class projects. They will practise their artistic expression inside and outside, and may even have the chance to visit local ceramic or art shops. In this course, children will explore their imagination and celebrate uniqueness. Camping and the Great Outdoors Your children will enjoy the great outdoors, while playing a variety of team and independent sports and Olympic games. We’ll explore the natural environment, but will also bring the campground experience indoors by making a pretend fire, and enjoying s’mores that we made ourselves. Children will combine creativity with nature by making pet rocks, twig frames, sun catchers, and sun prints. Children will also have fun creating a map of the playground before going on a special treasure hunt. This course will instill a love for the outdoors in your children. www.cefa.ca
