Welcome to Cotton & Chocolate 2012!
We can now officially announce a big secret that we have held for
several months. This last year we applied and were selected as one
of the top shops in North America and will be included in the May
2012 Better Homes & Garden’s Quilt Sampler magazine.
We couldn’t be more excited and expect this year to be one of the
biggest in our history. And we must thank you, our customers for
helping make our shop such a great place to be.
This session we are offering 3 monthly programs for the year. Join
one or join them all. The first one is a wonderful Saturday Sampler
program. Our “Celebrate America” patriotic-themed quilt will be fun
and inspiring. Remember, you will only have one chance to sign-up
~ December 10th (see page 4) as this one sells out every year.
Our next new program is called “Building Blocks”. This program is
designed by Sharyn Craig and features twelve great blocks and can
be set in several terrific formats. We will have 4 color-ways to
choose from (get one or get them all) for a very reasonable monthly
fee. Pam Burdick will be leading the monthly program that will also
be offered early Saturday mornings. Can’t make it? You can pick
up the pattern and block kits anytime during the month (page 3).
Our third new monthly program is….get ready….for..”Strip Club” (put
that one on your calendar and see what kind of questions you get).
Linda Pederson is raring to go with this great new monthly program
(Wednesday days or Monday evenings) once per month. We will
introduce a pack of 2 1/2” strips and a selected pattern and let the
fun begin! Come get excited about stripping with these easy-to-use
kits (see page 3).
We are also excited to premier our new web site at the start of the
year. Look for our announcement and be sure to “Like” us if you are
a member of Facebook to keep up on all of the latest news.
Happy Quilting!

If you do not have these basic skills, please join us for one of our “Learn to Quilt” classes.
1. Most classes require that you bring your sewing machine. Be sure that it is in good working order.
2. Most classes require basic rotary cutting and sewing experience.
3. Most classes require basic sewing supplies (thread, scissors, rotary mat and cutter, seam ripper, etc.) See
specific course supply lists for additional supplies needed.
4. Most classes teach the assembly of a quilt top. Layering, basting and quilting are taught in separate classes.
5. We are unable to accommodate children, guests, family members or pets in class.

classes accordingly.

NEW PROGRAMS
!
“BUILDING BLOCKS” - Block of the Month Program
Teacher ~ Pam Burdick
Join us one Saturday per month for this special new program. Designed by Sharyn Craig, Building Blocks is an easy way to
make a beautiful quilt out of 12 blocks. You can create your own block or make the block just like ours! It is your choice to be
creative - we give you the tools to color your own block and create your own block design.
How does this program work?
Each month we will be packaging a new pattern and four colorways to choose from. You can pick up one colorway or make
blocks in all four! Join the scheduled class where you will receive your pattern, see design options, receive instructions, and
enjoy some fun “show & tell”.
What You Get~
The cost is just $10.00 per month and includes the pattern, design chart and one colorway pack (3 fat 8ths). Additional
colorway packs will be available for just $4.75 each.
The colorways will be: Black & White, Civil War, Batik, and a Neutral Benartex fabrics option. Not included in the monthly fee
are the background fabric (~2 yd), the setting pattern, additional colorway packs, or the optional rulers and templates. You
must pre-register for each monthly kit to be sure that we have one reserved for you. We will also have extras on hand.
Can’t Make It To Class?
All monthly kits and extra colorway packs will be available after each monthly meeting. We will have the blocks on display for
you to make your choice.

Each month we pick a different fabric theme and cut 2 1/2” strips into bundles. Then we introduce a new pattern
to use those strips. Don’t like our color choice? You can pick up one of our other fabric bundles or use some from your own
stash. You may also have to add some fabric for setting pieces and backgrounds.
Why Join The Club?
You get great tips for success with each of the patterns, some great “show & tell”, and a 20% discount on your fabric, pattern

SATURDAY SAMPLER PROGRAM 2012 ~ “Celebrate America”
HOSTS ~ MARILYN & JERRY PETERSEN
What Is It? Saturday Sampler 2012 is here and this is your one and only chance to be part of this fun 12-month program
for the year. You can make the 12 blocks for only $7.00 (plus the cost of the pattern).
About the Quilt: We celebrate America with this quilt designed by our own Penni Albarran. This patriotic-themed quilt will
feature blocks designed around our American heritage. We start with Martin Luther King and end with the Boston Tea
Party, with lots of great blocks in between. Marilyn & Jerry are writing the patterns and featuring a yummy recipe each
month. We will also be highlighting piecing tips and techniques along the way.
This Is How It Works: On the designated Saturday of each month, we open the shop before regular store hours. The
block is introduced along with a short demonstration of a technique or tool that is used to make the block. If you make the
block and bring it back the following month (no waiting 2 or 3 months allowed), then the fabric for the next block is free.
Can’t make the block in time or make it to one of the meetings? Then, you must purchase the next block for $7.00 You
must be present with block in hand at the one of the class sessions to get your next block free of charge - there are no
exceptions!!!! You can attend either the 8:30 am or 9:15 am session.
We have limited the class to 100 people, so we will be handing out “priority” tickets (limit 2 per person) starting at 8:30 am
on sign-up day, December 10 (first come, first served) which will guarantee your spot (if purchased on December 10th
only). This means that you can get your priority ticket and come back later in the day, if desired, to sign-up for this program
as well as other classes. You will be allowed to sign-up a maximum of one friend (you must have 2 priority tickets in hand).
Mail registration and phone orders will be processed at the end of sign-up day, if spaces are still available.
By December, you will have received all twelve blocks and the setting instructions. You will have to purchase the setting
kits or other fabric to fully finish the quilt and border. All members will receive a discount on these fabrics.
Confident Beginner ~ $7.00 plus one time pattern fee of $25.00 ~ total of $32.00 due on sign-up day.
This program starts in January and runs through December 2012.
Note: The quilt blocks will be available for view in the shop or on line as of December 5th. The entire quilt setting will be
unveiled at the time of the first class.
