Categories For Fashion Revue
1.
Traditional-Constructed: features garments the participant has constructed for him/
herself, showcasing sewing skills and the ability to coordinate an outfit. The entry must be
sewn by the member as part of his/her 4-H Clothing and Textiles project. The outfit must
contain at least one constructed garment; participants are encouraged to construct additional garments to complete the outfit.
2.
Consumer Science Purchased $40.00 limit for the entire outfit, includes shoes
but not sales tax. Receipts from the current 4-H year are required for any item that is visible.
Gifts, prior purchases, and items without receipts are not eligible for this category. Receipts
from yard sales, etc. may be hand written. There is no 4-H project requirement.
3. Upcycled– take one or more existing garments and turn them into a new, different, and
wearable garment. Add an accessory handmade made by the participant (supplies to make it
may be purchased). The upcycled garment must be sewn by the member as part of his/her 4H Clothing & Textiles project. Additional upcycled and/or sewn garments are encouraged to
complete the outfit. A “before” photograph showing the original garment(s) is required. This
is not an alteration such as a large dress altered to fit a smaller person. It is a complete
change such as pants and a shirt made into a dress. Other fabrics and material may be added
during the construction process.
Print the flyer to share! Upcycled flyer (link)
4. Jacket Challenge – tiered requirements - Junior: construct a jacket using any pattern,
any fabric. Intermediate: construct a jacket and one other garment. Senior: construct a jacket and other pieces to complete an outfit. The entry must be sewn by the member as part of
his/her 4-H Clothing & Textiles project. What is a jacket? For this category it covers the upper
body, has sleeves of any length and opens in the front. Other construction details such as fasteners, collar, lapels, pockets, lining, etc. are optional, determined by sewing experience. Jacket Challenge flyer (link)
5.
Costume Challenge- use any technique and any materials to create a costume. It does
not need to be sewn from fabric but it does need to be made by the participant, not purchased, borrowed or rented as a costume. Individual pieces can be purchased, especially
things like tights, a leotard, or a t-shirt. It would be expected that the shirt is decorated, embellished, or changed somehow to make it part of the costume. The more parts of the costume that are hand-made, the better. There is no 4-H project requirement. The theme and
costume must be 4-H appropriate. Accessories are encouraged that are worn as part of the
costume, but not props.

Report : Congratulations
to all of our winners at fair
this year! We had a fun
time watching everyone
show their animals, and
you all looked like winners
to us. Hopefully you had a
blast at the fair this year, as
I know the All Stars did!
Maybe you saw us at your
club potluck, or perhaps we
met at the Knowledge Bowl. Either way, we had an amazing experience at the fair with everyone. Congratulations to all of the competitors at the Knowledge Bowl! We could all tell
that you knew so much about all of the projects and we were impressed!
This past month, the All Stars met with Gloria Brister, a communications trainer, to
work on our professionalism. We all learned so much including: reading body language, a
proper handshake, how to remember names, business card etiquette, and so much more.
After two meetings, all of us are better prepared for future conferences and meetings.
Coming soon, we are arranging a Color Me Green Run in partnership with the Washington and California focus delegates. This incredible event will be held on May 23 at Imperial High School. The All Stars and our team have been arranging a fun day filled with tasty
food, popping music, and you’ll get an awesome T-shirt just by signing up! I hope all of you
make plans to attend, because you won’t want to miss out on this fun Color Run! Invite your
friends, and see the flyer attached in the intercom for more details on how to sign up.

The Fair, for Southwest Valley 4-H, was a good
experience for our club, and everyone learned something during the week.
Our club attended events such as the Knowledge
Bowl where I feel our teams did a lot better than last
year. Mainly because we studied and prepared ourselves better beforehand. Many thanks to Mr. Pechtl
who helped organize our club’s teams and fun learning
events at the fair, such as the scavenger hunt. We also
sent representatives to compete in both the small and
large animal round robins. Congrats, they all did very
well.
Our club also put on a delicious potluck. This
helped us come together as a club during the fair and
see how everyone else was doing so far. Plus we
learned from others experiences. Not to mention the
great food to splurge on.
Our next monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 21 at 6:30 P.M. in the Ben Hulse Elementary
School Cafeteria.
