accomplish her mission. While on
April 26th, 2015
her way to Bhagiratha's kingdom,
her gushing turbulent waters
destroys Sage Jahnu's ashram. This
angered the sage to no end, and so
Jahnu drank up all of Ganga's
water.
Concerned that Ganga will not
complete her mission here on
earth, Bhagiratha and the Gods
pray to the sage to release this
river goddess. And so, pleased
with their prayers, sage Jahnu
releases Ganga from his mouth.
It was the 7th lunar phase of the
Ganga Saptami is dedicated to the
river Goddess Ganga. It is the day
waxing cycle in the month of AprilMay.
Ganga was reborn from Sage
Jahnu's mouth, as recounted in the
following legend.
In hopes of purging the sins of
Sage Bhagiratha's ancestors,
Ganga agrees to descend to Earth
from her place in heaven. To
prevent her waters from sweeping
Sage Jahnu releases Goddess Ganga
away Earth, Lord Shiva permits
Ganga to flow into his hair.
Since then, this day has been
known as Ganga Saptami, the
rebirth of Goddess Ganga. On
